She didn't just teached the American people, her voice was heard even across the Atlantic Ocean..when I first heard of her when I was in high school and from this moment I started to watch all of her videos and read all of her poems. I admire her as a poet, as an inspirational speaker, and as a woman of power. She is truly wonderful. The power of words..if only some people took the time to listen..
It's breaks my heart that one human being can still see himself or herself as superior or inferior to any other human being. Maya Angelou has fought for human dignity for so long and so graciously too. She's someone whom I would really love to sit down with and just listen to.

I understand exactly what's she's saying. But you or people in general need to first ask why did she/ he have to resort to such a word before passing judgement?. I'm in a very dark place. I have been mistreated and betrayed by people I trusted. I'm homeless and a greiving mother. Those who I depended on the most have let me down. I'm outta in the freezing cold. I've never been homeless until I lost my only child in 2018. I've never been and felt so low in my life. I don't have anyone else. I'm angry and some what bitter. But some people can't even comprehend that pain and feeling abandoned and poor. I'm now alone in this world and that's not a good feeling at all.

I love Maya Angelou. She has put strength in me from my childhood onwards through her writings. She has inspired me to believe in my self and my dreams. Today i have achieved many of those dreams because of this phenomenal woman. I wish i could meet her someday, somewhere, somehow and tell her this to her face. God bless her.
Thank you so much this is true. These people often have trouble gaining and substaining relationships and the fact that they glory and prosper from this only opens my eyes to how destitute in spirit that many be are.

Dr. Angelou is brilliant. She makes me proud to be a Black gentleman, and I aspire to be so filled with wisdom as is she. We need more ladies and gentlemen like her in our community. There are times when I feel that Black sophistication is dying out. I believe it's been slowly dying since the CR Movement, which saddens me. But as a young man, in his early 20s and still in the process of being educated, I'm proud to still see a woman such as this representing for our community. What an honor.

I loved Russel Mitchell's expression after the rope hanging comment. I thought he would burst out with laughter.
AMAZING! Dr. Angelou's eyes do not see the world the way we mortals do. Her words; though only spoken are the foundations of something far greater than any human divided by race, creed, or color shant be advised to the fact we all are still just one.
That woman could read the phone book, and I'd still be moved and inspired.

Picked up the book "I Know Why the Caged Bird Sing" without knowing who Maya Angelou was many years ago. Could not put it down. Such a beautiful spirit comes through her written and spoken words.
i dont think many people realize that they themselves are the ones who choose what kind of value is applied to language, or words. instead of adopting the values of somebody else, create your own...

I think you have that all correct but I think we need her in all our communities. If more people thought and felt like her, then maybe we could feel as if we were all one community. Not just a bunch of seperate communities. I am odviously all for being proud of one's herritage. But I am as color blind as they come. As we all need to become. But I do see where she is an insperation. She is an insperation to me also.

@amadear you're right. They are some rappers who exploit this, but it's all about the money. And just because you're famous doesn't mean that your IQ is going to rise.
Maya Angelou is a woman who knows all too well about the power of words. She diffuses the meaning of manuscript and creates a mechanism of strenghth through speech. Don Imus' statement may have seemed hilarious to others but those derogatory words sparked a thought of the miseries and pains that Black women had to endure all the way from slavery. I guess Don indirect statement is that if rappers can call them all types of names, "Why can't I?"

@Cuterdenu999 I'm wondering what she might have been like without all the drama in her life....seems to have had a positive effect or rather she transformed the negative....my favorite expression is 'life doesn't create who you are...it reveals who you are'.
