Since I could only find names for a few of the musicians, here's the full list Chris Funk - Banjo/Slide Guitar Nate Query - Bass Jenny Conlee - Accordion Annalisa Tornfelt - Vocals/Violin Jon Neufeld - Guitar John Moen - Percussion
I saw these guys at the Newport Folk Festival last year and when Annalisa mentioned writing a song about Richard Manuel I had to hang out and listen... great stuff!
What a great lineup....I saw them up close just like this in a downstairs studio in Madison. Yeah, I fell in love with the violin player/singer. She's got some great credentials as well. You rock, Jenny!
Colin is everything you mention and more--but the composition is king, the songs are what draws me to the Decemberists. Great compositions are the most important element. I've heard far too many well-trained vocalists singing boring songs perfectly.(The Eagles' last album is a great example) I'd much rather hear a Great song, performed true to the character of the singer, every time. Annalisa, please don't change a thing. You are perfect as you are!
There is always somebody who thinks they look smart by critcizing something they don''t understand. Did you sit back and listen? Or did you judge by what you think you saw. Your critique of the singer leave me thinking you would like to see a rock singer instead. You missed the boat on this one buddy. Listen....this is FOLK music.
The voice fits the music perfectly. As Bob Dylan's, Arlo Guthrie's, Neil Young/s and so many other singers' voices fit their music. You're too busy critiquing this band to listen. Annalisa's voice haunts my soul...she'll ruin that if she follows your advice.
Great sound ! If you like Indie music and find underground artist, I suggest you to discover a new one by writing *"Niko Laetailleurs"* in the you tube search bar. One of my favorite...
this video is incredible. this lady is killing it on the accordion
I freaking love this kind of music. It's nice to hear something without an electric guitar
It's awesome how such a relatively large band can make such a subtle, precise sound.

Amazing how popular the banjo seems these days! If I see Eddie Van Halen playing a banjo in the next Tiny Desk concert I'm buying Bob Boilen a drink.
NPR you rock! Every week you bring my new gems that are unknown to me. Thanks! Nowhere Massachusetts is a loving song :-)
I find it hard not to be attracted to every lovely arch-top, sunburst guitar I see.

the second song drew me in. very nice vocals and violin! nice band.
You go, Jenny! You are the female Rad Lorkovich [with Jimmy LaFave].
That moment when the black prairie tiny desk concert has more members of the Decemberists than the Decemberists tiny desk concert...
Makes you think, are they only keeping it going for the money, and this is the real direction the band want to take? xD
Lady Accordion-player, I approve of your mood. You make me smile.
Didn't know what to expect... Loved it! Much gratitude.
I like how this almost all of the members of the decemberists except for Colin Meloy
Amazing...
More of this please!!!!!!!
this. hotel. is on fire!
Very beautiful music !
Thank you.

This is stupendous, thank you.
If you like the accordion, you should come to Cotati, CA.
We have a great accordionfestivall every year, and would love to see you there.
Thanks for fleshing out that stripped down appearance there, Steve. (No worries, the blonde addled me too... =o)
That was beautiful!
This is just plain ole Feel Good Music!
Go Jenny!
Love it....
I am pleased.

oh SNAP, these guys are good!
this sounds exactly like the type of music they play in NOLA - at my local Rouses!
Love it!
6:52 “Yes, and I think that anyone that would make fun of you for your [shirt] is an idiot!”
It's like if Gwenyth Paltrow could actually sing ... and was in kahootz with a talented and unique band ... Seriously this is wonderful.
I'm diggin' the gal on accordion.
For sure:)
Super!
Your profile picture makes your comment that much more enjoyable.

Dude..I was thinking the same thing!

Both guitars are by John Sullivan, I believe, and I think he's passed away now.
I would agree with both of you guys...but the guys are hot too!

YoHo, that's funny!!! BEATKIDS, Berlin, Germany

I find it hard not to be attracted to every female I see.
I'm sure a quick google search can fix that.
