Matt Cardona, the host of the Major Wrestling Figure Podcast, is the GCW Champion (much to the chagrin of GCW fans), and he’s loving every moment! He explains how it happened, why he got in the ring with Nick Gage, and what the experience was like. Matt does a breakdown of the match, the pizza cutter spot, the extreme bleeding, and the fan reaction. Then, he explains why he took the GCW Title to Disneyland, how he survived the death threats and the cross-country flight the day after the match, and when you can expect to see him defend his new title. Matt’s also talking about the action figure renaissance in pro wrestling, what inspired the action figure line he’s producing and distributing, which figures are worth the most money, how his own collection started, and the rare figures he’s still searching for to this day.
It really just comes to show ya how great of a talent Matt can truly be if you allow him to express himself more.
After that match, I asked myself
" How did WWE miss the boat with that guy?"
I think we all have asked that.
Probably the same reason why AEW didn't want him, or Impact, or why NJPW hasn't called him.
@@Andulvar I believe he is wrestling for Impact and did a couple of matches for AEW. The reason it was short for AEW is because he wanted less appearances.
They didn't. He missed the boat with them. He admitted he didn't speak up when he needed to and took what he got.
@@TheOmegaRiddler Was this around the time when Danielson was the heavyweight champion and Punk was the WWE champ? Because you could be right, but still though. Cardona was still hot around that time and the management still didn't see that.
Cardona and Meyers made everyone look great. That's not easy to do. Couple of the better ring techs in the business for a long time
-Having his Zack Ryder theme play before making his entrance against Nick Gage
- Winning the GCW Championship
- Thanking the fans and calling them the “GCW Universe”
- Dressing like Vince McMahon in 2007 when he was ECW Champion
- Getting his own custom GCW World Title which looks incredibly like something WWE would make. Also, my favourite part. IT SPINS!
Cody Rhodes said last year that he believes Matt Cardona could get as over as he was in 2011. I thought that was a kind thing to say about a friend but I didn’t believe it for one second. Matt Cardona has proved me wrong. The guy is one of my favourite heels in wrestling right now. Next time he wins a match in GCW I want him to say “this is the greatest sports entertainment company in the world and I love you GCW Universe”. This gimmick works because people want to see this guy get beat up. IMAGINE if Cena did this in 2006 for the RVD feud.
Matt Cardona proved he has the potential to be more than people thought. he stepped in the ring, took a beating, walked away from it the winner. they both deserve respect for what came from that match it opened up people's eyes.
Matt done exactly what he needed too. Be the ultimate opposite of what GCW fans want. Like Mick Foley did in early ECW with rest holds and loving Wcw
The fans at the venue should give Matt some respect. He literally took hard shots from Nick Cage, not to mention those light bulbs.
I can't hate Matt Cardona at all. He is a great guy to hang out with and his hobbies are very cool.

Cardona is such a great team player in the first minute describing his feud and match with Nick Gage. He totally gets his character and is so smart about the business

Me too. The way he promoted himself to the WWE audience through the early days of social media was awesome, hopeful to future wrestlers and new.

Matt Cardona looks and sounds F-CKING happy working outside of World Wrestling Entertainment. His roles in AEW, IMPACT Wrestling, and other places showed his all. Good for him. Maybe in December, on an AEW: Winter is Coming, Cardona, Punk and Bryan share a segment for all times sake. 😊

@@michaelaburns734 I only said it reminded me. Not that it was similar in every single way. I'm talking about how 100% of the people in attendance at both shows wanted RVD and Gage to win. Zack Ryder basically was John Cena in this match.

Whole thing was quite beautifully done and conceived of. GCW fan reaction wasn't okay. The defence that they're all smart marks and it was just part of the show is absolute BS. It went way too far OTT... but I guess no one got severely hurt (although Cardona has infection in his wounds in his back, which is very probably from all the dregs of hick-spit infused beer that got chucked over him...).
At the end of the day, it brought more eyes to GCW, and one noticeable thing is Joey Janela has got back in shape and his work is steadily improving. Which is a win for everyone.
You obviously don't know how much that crowd hates WWE guys.
@@Andulvar Redundant. The booking was great - Heat is good. Throwing projectiles at a performer after his just been flayed in a death match... not cool.

Honestly though, I think it was the right play, he would have probably fallen to the wayside pretty quickly and ended up on Dark with Lee Johnson or something, he just didn't have enough going on back then
Could he come back someday? Maybe. But right now AEW is pretty stacked.

@@donrosario3 Punk and Danielson are two of the greatest minds in professional wrestling.
And like, how are you gonna call guys like Danielson and Punk, who are in their 40s, broken down and washed up, in the comments section of Chris Jericho, who is well into his 50s and having arguably his best run right now?
Even if they couldn't still go (which Punk certainly proved he very much still can on Sunday) having them backstage as locker room leaders is a massive asset to the younger talent. The generation who is coming up now looks up to guys like Danielson and Punk, they are their Austin and Rock.
Christian is one of the most underrated guys in the history of the business, ask literally anyone who has been there with him, his skill for pacing out matches is incredible, and his promos were always amazing. It's funny that people call Christian old, but love it when Edge comes back, it just goes to show the dynamic that has existed from the very start. Both of them are great, but WWE always valued Edge over Christian, even though Christian is just as good, and honestly, I feel like Christian is more skilled at leading matches.
Paul Wight is there mostly just to help the big guys learn how to work big backstage. He wasn't hired for his star power, he was hired to help guys like Lance Archer, Luchasarus, and Will Hobbs learn how to work big and use their size better, because if you want an expert in working big, you can't do much better than Big Show and Mark Henry.
So all these "worn down" guys are there to help teach the next generation. AEW still knows who it's prospects are, and they are giving those up and comers a forest's worth of learning trees to sit under.
@@knightshousegames i was mostly just kidding, it's gonna be great to see those guys pass the torch to the new generation. bryan danielson and christian are two of the best working minds in the business at a top level. my apprehension of them coming to aew is that i dont want to see either of them get hurt or seriously injured, as the style of aew is alot more fast paced and risky, you could say. both punk and bryan have had concussion issues in the past and i just dont wanna see them throw caution to the wind just to settle some personal vendetta with vince, when they have lots of fans that care about their health and well being.

@@Andulvar I don’t think so, Matt has been in AEW but only for an appearance he didn’t make a deal, he wants to be in impact, where his fiancée is or other wrestling companies.
