I love Ridleys animations so much. There's nothing goofy or funny about any of his attacks, he is straight up trying to kill his opponent. I mean, he literally impales his opponent and also drags them on the ground
@Awawawa CM Yeah, the aesthetic of a creature who has bathed in the blood of countless lives, knew that he was doing it, and kept doing it because he was just so addicted to violence. And now we make it fight a tiny dog who's only canon defining trait is the fact that she's a wonderful secretary.
I agree, except for his down air,I would keep it being a move that goes straight to the ground but I stead of using his feet I would change it to a claw attack that has a landing hitbox.
@@juanrodriguez9971 Three words:
Pogo Stick Tail
@@shatterIguess838 or even better, leave the pogo tail for down version of up b, and make it bounce 3 times on the ground ending with a landing hitbox.
@@juanrodriguez9971 I think Up B is fine as it is, The pogo tail is best suited for a bouncing spike, like Greninja or the Belmont's
Ridley's up air just makes him look like the Skyrim logo
See I would ask what the skyrim logo looks like but...
More like up-b
Dovakin!
OWAHH XD HAH
Truth
9:26 "As they seem to be pretty good overall, as they do seem to be pretty good overall."
A statement so nice, you had to say it twice.
Man, I'm really glad that I looked before making the same comment hahah, but yeah, they do seem to be pretty good overall
Tfw you forget to edit out the retake lol
Damn, you almost pulled a Dr. Seuss
Fun fact: The difference in weight between Bowser and Ridley is the same as the difference in weight between Ridley and Kirby. I love dying early :D
I'm surprised you didn't mention for Skewer that the sweetspot is the tip of the tail for the most part, but for some reason a tiny piece of the sourspot sticks out, meaning you don't get the sweetspot for landing it at max range.
If you poked someone with the tip of a sharp object, don’t you think it would do less damage than stabbing someone with it.
@@AshenDust_ Fair but unintuitive.
@@AshenDust_ Yes and no. On the one hand, I agree with the logistics of what you're saying but also, this is the same game where if you shield the first hit of Link's grounded Up-B the rest of the move just goes right through you.
It’s funny when it happens.
Ridley is an unfinished character like G&W in melee.
"it's called plasma breath, even though it looks more like fire to me"
Plasma weaponry and attacks in the Metroid games are always firey. Prime 3's plasma beam was basically just a beam upgrade that made your shots really hot.
Prime one was also fire
Fire IS plasma. I'm serious, look it up.
@@brain_tonic not accurate. Fire is a creation, a thing.
Plasma is a state of matter, it is when gas is heated up to an even greater extent
Plasma would probably set anything flammable on fire (depending on what exactly the plasma is made from and the flammable object in question) but it is not in itself fire.
@@velvetbutterfly They aren't saying that all plasma is fire, but that fire is a type of plasma.
@@jabberwockthelemur2961 Exactly! Basic english really.
Like if I said "Lead IS Heavy", responding with "not accurate. Lead is a metal. Heaviness is a property" would be ridiculous.
I still feel Ridley should have his weight increased a little, atleast make him as heavy as the potted plant so he's heavier than Samus atleast
I concur.
Make him 113,since then he COULD possibly be labelled as super heavy.
He doesn't need the weight increase. Weight is only used for balancing (just look at Seph and M2), and rising it would just make him even easier to combo given his hurtbox is the size of texas
I would rather have an air speed increase so he can actually move fast in air. Mf moves like a slug airborne, while he's top 10 fastest in the ground, and he's supposed to be an aerial character (if anything his speeds should be reversed air-quick, ground-slow)
@@jvbon646 The weight is needed Ridley is already the easiest character to combo, increasing it wont make it any worse, but at least he will get more chances to survive fatal blows after getting from 0 to 140 by losing one neutral interaction
I think Giving him tough guy would buff him up a few tiers
My ridley main self loves that he finally got his vid. Thanks patroen voters, I appreciate it
Agreed
You're welcome
I had no idea his neutral b could backfire while charging, that’s such a small detail that even after dozens of fights I can only recall it once and didn’t even notice the damage. Love Ridley, thanks for the video.
It's actually kinda handy to mix up and eat powerful projectiles like Samus' Charge Shot.
Since you didn't shield it, the assumption is that it hit you, and you are now flying away, which is not actually the case.
@@aprinnyonbreak1290 oh? It cancels out strong knockback as well?
@@ShupperDupper
Yeah, you just have to make sure it hits Ridley squarely in the head, which some projectiles or stage layouts aren't conducive to. I don't know off the top of my head if there's an upper limit to how much knockback can be cancelled by it, I don't think there is, but wouldn't be surprised if tanking a charge shot at 600% or something managed to break it.
Though, it's worth noting that Ridley ends up taking more damage from doing it, meaning if you do it deliberately, it has to be a calculated decicion, or used when the hit would have just killed you anyways.
"Can't imagine there's You can find that much healthy food out there in space to begin with"
I don't know, I hear Samus's Parents taste great!
Ah,o sew you're a man of culture as well.
Healthy food usually tastes disgusting though so they probably weren't healthy
@@velvetbutterfly Fresh meat is good for you and tastes great.
@@velvetbutterfly Ridley's size in Smash is based on the NES Metroid.
@@orangeslash1667 okay, and?
This comment was joking about diet food tasting like sweaty garbage
“However, only half of his tail has a hurtbox, and said part is the closer half.”
My man Ridley out here making Mewtwo cry by having a tail hurtbox that doesn’t make him get hit by random across-stage attacks.

I’m surprised you didn’t go with “Ridley’s Ridiculous Hitboxes” for the title. Would’ve fit better with previous naming conventions, but I guess “ravenous” does describe Ridley better.
Not really. "Donkey and Dazzling" don't work like "Ridley Ridiculous" and yet still sounds good.
Ridley's Ridley Hitboxes :)
9:27 I think you repeated something on the script, unless I’m missing something?
It’s an editing mistake. Swapped in a separate take and forgot to delete the other one.
“Hail to the cunning god of death!
Death on violet wings, death to everything!”
Lyrics from “Vs Ridley with Lyrics” by Man on the internet.
I agree with the comments that say the weight makes sense as ridley actually doesn't have much mass and most likely has hollow bones due to him being a naturally flying creature. But I also understand why in terms of actually gameplay it sucks because he gets combo easily due to his size while not living as long as other characters in his situation.
May I introduce you to mewtwo?
@@trombonegamer14 I was actually going to use MewTwo as an example, but he's in a little of a different situation. As they don't make him light for no reason. The logic is that he uses his psychic abilities to make himself all floaty. Same thing with Rosalina, she's lighter because she's using her magic to float around, but when deactivates to sit in a rece kart, she's actually one of the heavier Mario characters. Also, if you haven't realize, most weight oddities that are there for balance reasons are to make the character lighter than expected, this applied to Sephiroth as well. I think the only character they made heavier than they should for balancing purposes is Piranha Plant.
And then there's Down Air!
it sucks
I wish his down air was the pogo stick attack he does in the games and make it always a spike hitbox that you can jump out of it if it hit someone, kinda like BotW Link's dair.
DUDE SAME
The mod does it though it's a meteor smash only for first few frames (the enemy is launched up on late hit, but that lets him combo) and he always bounces on hit.
Make his aerial down b the pogo stick, I like his current dair lol
@@gormottigrebel9978 current DAir should just get a landing hitbox and the cool pose he had in 4 instead of whatever the hell he has right now.
@@someaveragewatcher492 The down air is a reference to Prime 1.
As a Ridley main I can definitely agree with the fact that his hitboxes are good, if anything it's the size of his hurtbox and his mobility that probably hurt him the most
Looking at Ridley's hurtboxes, why isn't Mewtwo like that, with hurtboxes on the tail but only the parts close to the body
I actually thought that Mewtwo was like that but looking at it now and it's just sad
If I had to guess it's because Mewtwo's tail sees a lot more use for moves.
Of Ridley's Tail moves only like two of them have his tail actually extend that far from his body.
While Mewtwo by contrast has all three tilts and two of his aerials extend his tail out extremely far, and making his tail a functional sword would be pretty stupid.
@@Robbie_Haruna That doesn’t explain why Mewtwo WAS like that in Smash 4 though
@@shieldlesscap6124 Well considering how Smash 4 Mewtwo spammed Down Tilt for free until the cows came home, it's possible they wanted to avoid that.
Mewtwo's tail`s more meaty.
i love ridley, his animations make him feel so fun to play
Yes. Plus u can go for super retarted mixups that are fun as fuck
I love brraking my neck using Up B against a ceiling. His face reminds my of King DDD's when he does the same, but its even funnier seeing someone like Ridley do it cuz it looks so like something he wouldn't do.
"But did his hitboxes get the same treatment?"
Brawl Snake: laughs in Up-Tilt
Alternative title: Ridley’s Really Big hitboxes
At the time of writing I haven’t watched the video yes so I have no context to go off of
Important to note that Ridley's gentleman can kill.
Something tells me he doesn’t like dlc
Ridley's down b deserves a little buff, if you land it and the opponent reaches 120% then they directly die, not needing to be launched as if it was stamina, I thought it worked like that in his trailer reveal but it's a bit disappointment it doesn't.
Finally. Some love for my boi Rids!
I actually like that you did an analysis on the hurtbox this time! I would like to see that more because I think it's really interesting and you never see anyone talk about the hurtboxes.
As they do seem to be pretty good overall.
As they do seem to be pretty good overall.
I feel like up air should have intangibility on the wings, make it a swordy upair that can fight a swordy downair without trading. Also his nair is one of the sickest moves visually, it's cooler Ike nair that can kill kinda early compared to other aerials.
Skewer can be low profiled under by Pikachu Bair. I am not joking
You can fullhop offstage and dair and still barely make it back
Fighter pass: [Exists]
Rekzius: "DID I MENTION I REALLY HATE DLC?!"
I’m surprised many people aren’t aware about Ridley’s Neutral B weak spot mechanic, because It was one of the first things we see in the Nintendo Treehouse LIVE back in E3 June 2018.
I was never even aware ridley's upb dive had directional variations based on what way he faced. Kind of cool to see he even does a backwards, wing-first dive
5:39 Not really, as long you jump once and do the move you will have enough range to air jump and make it back. As long you don't use it at ledge level it's good.
Thanks for giving my boy some attention! 🐉
#TheRidleyAgenda
Having mained Ridley since Day 1 (and currently focusing more on Link now), I can safely say these visualizations are great reference for one of the main issues with him, even compared to other base game characters. Ridley's tools are very blunt, and perhaps a bit too straight forward for a game like Ultimate. I could go into more detail for anyone who'd like me to elaborate.
And of course, the fact that his Dair is not his Pogo-stick Tail from Super Metroid is a crime.
Elaborate
The NeutralSpecial exploding in your face can also be a big brain play from Ridley since they don't get launched. If they use this on a super laggy move like Byleths DSpecial and somehow let the fire balls backfire, he can actually punish Byleth
This is a neat idea but ridley got launched by rob while still taking around 30% when they were at 100%, I imagine it'd be hard to do if you're in the percent range where you don't wanna get launched
@@bababoooeey3657 Yeah that’s true-.. But still
I love this big dumb space pirate and his big dumb hitboxes.
The back of his up smash makes me want to die. Whenever some characters are JUST behind me and it just doesn't connect, that clip of Mr. Lahey stumbling down some steps plays in my mind. Also his dair just embarrasses me. They should have made him drop a fireball like in his boss fight in Samus Returns or giving him his pogo tail with intangiblity from Super, 'cus I sure do love getting juggled by sword fighters who outrun my air movement.
Having played him day 1 I've just come to accept his downfalls. And believe me, he has his fair share. At least he hits like a truck.
I gave him a bit more weight and a third midair jump with some spirits, It made him more fun to play as.
I think his weight makes sense. He wouldn't be a very agile flyer if he was a super heavyweight. Plus he's noticeably skinnier than the super heavyweights.
We need him 2 be 113 at least, then we could categorize him as a super heavy. The heaviest character not labelled as "super heavy" is piranha plant at 112.
@@lepooter1365 He should definitely be above average. But I don't think he should be a super heavyweight.
Having him be Super Heavy would be like trying to use Space Jump without HiJump in Super Metroid
@@lepooter1365 Ridley's size in Smash is based on the NES Metroid.
0:42 I feel like it still kinda matters as it's generally more useful to be able to hit certain item base attacks (Like the Gordo and Soccer Ball) back at the opponent easily instead of back through you. Even if you wouldn't hit yourself like with the Green Shell.
He said that not because it isn't USEFUL, but because most of the people watching hitbox videos are interested due to the game's competitive play, and in such play items are always banned and thus move properties relating to them aren't particularly relevant.
@@alexstewart9592 except, certain characters projectiles are spawn items and/or have the properties of items. So it actually does apply to competitive play. I even gave example of certain attacks where this is the case and they are far from the only ones.
@@scarffoxandfriends9401 And NONE of those items interact with knockback. Their interaction with being hit is either to get picked up, to ignore it or to explode in their current location.
@@alexstewart9592 Gordo's very much do interact with knock back, it's why they where terrible in past and are still pretty bad. Pac-man's Hydrant is another item affected by knock back as well. Duck Hunt trick shot is effected by it with lower powered attacks. Princess peach can pull a Mr. Saturn, which can also be hit while walking around. Wii Fit's Soccer ball is also affected by knock back.
great video brother!
Have you done… *Incineroar‘s Insidious Hitboxes* yet?
Yooo yo did my boy. Nice!
Always a good day when Rekzius uploads!
Yooo let's gooo ridely is our man!
I never realized that his forward tilt was him grabbing his tail, I thought he was just thrusting it forward by itself.
I never noticed that Ridley actually grabs his tail to impale you with Side Tilt.
He also balances on his tail for Up Smash.
I never knew that Ridley grabs his tail and uses it like a spear for his f-tilt
Fun fact: Because he grabs it, that means Ridley's F-Tilt has an absurdly long item grab range.
Same, that looks really stupid
Great video!
I wonder how insane the final character will be
"as they do seem pretty good overall" is repeated for some reason…
Ridley is HONEST
Was real cool seeing ridleys moves without the effect
Thank you for remembering my boy 💜
That nair of his is really deceptive, I got a lot of edgeguards by spamming it
hitboxes of my main, awesome
I haven’t been this early since I’ve dreamt of being early- never. Anyway, Good one.
I'm really surprised more people don't talk about that down b. Sure, there's a ton of end lag, but if you can deal 63 damage in one hit _and_ crumple your opponent, I'd call that a pretty worthwhile tradeoff.
I believe in the beginning, before the meta was established, his down b was the one move in the game that everyone was aware of. It still has its moments competitively, but its since been over shadowed by flashier combos.
It's practically impossible to land in neutral but I think that if you can actually recognize a situation where it's usable (your opponent whiffing at the exact right spacing) then the risk is worth it. But these situations are so rare it may be hard to actually react and think of doing down b
You can generally turn a skewer into a free kill, even if you only hit at 0 percent.
If you manage to get your opponent on a platform you can read their tech option with it, same goes on the floor but it's more inconsistent.
@@paulm.1507 Sometimes in order to represent a character's power, Sakurai will give them a high risk, high reward move. Like Falcon Punch.
WOOOOOO RIDLEY VIDEO WOOOOOOOOOOOO

Could you cover lucas's hitboxes next please?
I feel bad i missed the last stream. And i didn't even know this vid was out. My B,-day is also tomorrow lol.

Donkey Kong - Dazzling.
Joker - Jagged.
Banjo-Kazooie - Bulky and Keen.
Hero - Hefty.
Mythra - Massive (like Her Butt).
Paluntena - Putrid.
Little Mac - Missleading.
Bayonetta - BullSh!tty.
Sephiroth - Stupid.
Yeah that’s called Alliteration
the timing on this video is uncanny
I literally JUST got used to playing as him and I've been enjoying myself
then bam you cover him
9:27
Ah, I remember when this happened on Banjo’s vid. Ah, i remember when this happened on Banjo’s vid.
Love the vid but can you also talk about the frame data
Tbh, aerial side-b cancel into downwards up special almost always hits the spike. only characters with tp up specials or really fast air speed can dodge the up special, and not even reliably.
Samus' parents just got way healthier to eat, that's why Ridley's so lightweight now!
i still can’t believe that ridley is actually in smash
If Ridley was just two units heavier and had even one descending aerial that was safe on shield they might be viable.
The thing that he needs the most is to be more speedy on the air.

It would be nice to have one of Link just to see how many things nair can outprioritize XD
hitbox time bois
I feel like there were a lot of times were you should have added some other info about the moves for example f tilt is not a disjoint and mashing out of side is dependent on your % compared to ridleys it feels as if this video video shows hit boxes instead of showing them and telling you about the moves
I wasn't subscribed yet I still watch all your videos. This is why you should always make the "subcreb n bel ples" thing at the beggining, middle and end of the video.
i would love to see Krools hotbox analysis, i main Krool and little mac, and incase you haven't seen the mac hitbox analysis video... its not the most factual..
I luv Ridley
Been watching the vids for a min and don’t want to be mean bout it but def wish your editing was tighter. Like have the moves you talk about play on screen. That and you left a repeated line in round 9:25. Good content overall but room for improvement
I thing ridleys weight being lower then samus should genuinely be considered a hate crime amd if his weight was closer to the super heavys then he would be way more viable because he gets combo’d so easily and has to mostly rely on read’s because hes so slow
turn on subtitles at 1:50
Ridley should have the same weight as Piranha Plant: Heavier than Samus but lighter than Incineroar and Ganondorf
