I’ve been listening to Joe Diorio since about 1960 when Eddie Harris came out with “Exodus to Jazz”. Joe did such great work on that album and played a gorgeous solo on the title track, “Exodus”. It became a hit, but the juke box 45 RPM version cut out Joe’s solo, which was a shame! Thank God that the album has Joe soloing tastefully on every track! I’m now 81 and still a fan and still an amateur, playing every day!
Been enjoying your videos with ideas taken from Joe Diorio. I've bought pretty much all of Joe's publications and as many of his recordings on CD that I could find. Bought my 1st copy of "Fusion" & "21st Century Intervallic Designs" many years ago. Great to see you're carrying on these incredible concepts... the Right Brain Guitarist series etc to new generations of players. Keep up the great work!
Thanks! I am such a huge fan of Diorio's playing and teaching. He is an endless source of inspiration for me. I've also been seeking out all the music I can find that he recorded!
Joe was a friend of the family from way back in Waterbury, conn. He was inspired by my uncle Fred Bredice and studied with Fred's cousin Vincent Bredice. He gave me lessons as a favor to my dad who played piano in Miami Beach. I was only into my 3rd year on guitar so he was light years ahead. lol He gives praise in the forward of his book.@@mbacarellaguitar
I wish I did. I have many friends who did, but i was a little too young to have had the chance to study with him before he had his stroke. I was hoping to have a chance to study with him, but he passed away before I had a chance to reach out. He is one of my biggest guitar heroes.

Joe was an exceptional player. I took a couple lessons with him early '70s in Miami. He was writing that book I believe then.
That is awesome! How were lessons with Joe?

Great lesson!
Great lesson Mike. Drop 2 voicings really do give some great arpeggio sounds, and I love how you added that augmented shape after that m7.
Glad it was helpful!
