Here is a great ii-V line from Wynton Kelly. He is easily one of my favorite piano players in the history of jazz. This line introduces a great concept of using Harmonic Minor over the V chord, and contains a great enclosure that I use a lot! EASY Chord Soloing With Johnny Smith's Chord Soloing Concepts | Jazz Guitar Chord Melody Lesson
thanks for this lesson, very helpfull. ! It is quite a difficult technique to master..
Always awesome content Mike 👍🎸 excellent video brother, hope you are well!
Johnny was a very modest and kind person !
Hi, that's a great and super useful line. From which solo did you take it? Thank you very much and happy new year.
Thanks! Technically it’s not fully fourths, no? The F to B is an augmented 4th. It can slightly throw you off if you are thinking in just fourths since on any note the parallel (except G-B) note is a fourth but for F to B we have to bump it up a fret to stay in key. It could be worth a note to explain when this would happen or is it always “move up a note to keep it in key if you need to”. Hope that makes sense.
Wow!! Just ran across your channel. Subscribed. Great lesson👍😀👍
I think he is playing C half/whole scale rather than some F minor variant. This would be more consistent with using the C7 as a sub over the Bb. Just my interp - I appreciate your videos.
Great stuff !! Thanks man!
Agree with all the comments, this is the good $h!7! No tricks, just legit breakdowns of strong great lines that will always work. Thanks!
Great lesson great phrase and great explanation!!!
Glad you liked it!
Man idk how thos channels isnt bigger after so many years. This is in my top three jazz channels now and quickly pulling up on first place the more lessons i do. I wish you and Micahs pod cast were ongoing cause that was great! Thanks for puttin in the work and teaching us🙏 I've been studying jazz for a little over a year at this point on my own and this channel is progressing me and leaps and bounds.
I really appreciate how much you’re enjoying my channel Adam!
Excellent - thank you!!
You are welcome!
Thats what kirk fletcher is always talking about. Your rhythm should be as exciting as lead and your lead should be as easy to hear as your rhythm.
Man talkin on hendrix. Band of Gypsies all day
Holy shit man! Second video ive watched of yours. Your channel os strait gold!
Man killer lesson! Perfect explanation and also killer left hand exercise.
Fantastic lesson as always Mike 🎸🎅 hope you and yours have a Merry Christmas!
Merry Christmas to you too!
Thank you very much! Amazing Lesson!
You're very welcome!
@@mbacarellaguitar Still would love to know what do you think about Tim Henson ) To me he is a contemporary Joe Pass. It is not just a super playing power, his tunes are stunning
What kind of pick do you use?
Dunlop Primetone 1.5mm. I absolutely love those picks.
@@mbacarellaguitar How does the Zemaitis compare to a Gibson LP? Reading up on them now. Great quality!
Mike ! Nice ! Nice ! Nice ! Keep teaching, keep posting ! You chose the best ideas !!!
Thanks for the encouragement! Glad you’re digging what I’m putting out!
Love this video Mike 👍🎸 I'm definitely working on improving my jazz phrasing so this was much needed! Best to you man, thanks so much!!
Glad you’re enjoying it! These lines are incredible!
Thanks so much man, so great to work with things we know and see we can add to it.
Don't know how I missed this video Mike but it's a great one! 👍🎸 Best to you brother!
YEAH MAN - miss you hope all is well!
great lesson, mike; and I think one of the most valuable things is how one can extrapolate the pattern and intervalic leaps, invert them, and arrange them in endless ways (which is likely how J.H. arrived at it in the first place)….thanks!
I totally agree! Deconstructing the concepts and making it our own is how we really gain control over them!
Thats NICE !!!!! And Simple !!! Thank you again, master !!!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Just outstanding Mike, I love Jimmy's playing 👍🎸 hope you and yours are well, thanks so much for these videos
Thanks man! Glad you enjoyed the lesson!
Thanks. Though I'm only a sax player, this has help me 😎👍🏾
Very cool…this is how I like to use it…more like a pentatonic as two notes per string….i like it occasionally over m7 chord a fret up or down from root, giving you the m3, 5th, M7, b9 and 4th…sounds a little out but add the root to the end of a line and it’s kinda cool
😂
De los mejores canales para aprender temas de jazz bien didactico y se siente el amor y pasion que le pones al enseñar🎉😊
Cool lines, Mike! Thanks
Glad you enjoyed!
Wowow thanks for these BIG GOLD NUGGETS!!
You are very welcome!
Spitting image of Derek Trucks except for the Strat!
I get that a lot! Derek apologized to me when I told him that everyone thinks I’m him hahah.
Yeah man I wasn't aware of this book
It’s well worth checking out!
Awesome lesson!
Glad you enjoyed it Steve!
Dig it, Mike! I liked the way you took the concept further and explored it across the entire fretboard and key 🤘
Thanks Chase! I like the videos you put out on your channel!
@@mbacarellaguitar Thanks Mike!
The basic sound resembles the beginning of The Police's 'Every Breath You Take', but extended over two octaves and a fifth.
That didn’t even occur to me!
Incredible lesson and video Mike 👍🎸 thanks so much always for your wonderful content, hope you and yours are well
My pleasure! Aren’t Kurt’s concepts so cool? Every time I learn anything from him it leads me into a deep dive into something really interesting.
Good stuff bro! 🎸😎👍
Glad you enjoyed it!
A great player! Wish he had included transcriptions in the video.
The examples are all available in a PDF on my patreon page! Along with pdf files for just about all of my videos, as well as a ton of transcriptions of various solos.
There’s nothing “secret” about it and Herbie didn’t invent it. Looking forward to your discovery this secret thing called beer 😊
You’re a smart ass dude. Or dumb.
Fantastic content Mike 👍🎸 thanks so much!
Awesome t shirts too 😁
Glad you enjoyed it! It’s a really cool concept to apply!
Good stuff, thanks.
Glad you enjoyed it!
I worked on Jimmy Wyble's Etude Eight when I was a young player, but I didn't really analyze it at the time. Your analysis is very helpful - thank you!
I have yet to tackle Jimmy’s Etude 8. I may start working on that this week!
