“It doesn’t matter what the notes are.” It’s a really bold statement. One of those “secrets” of jazz. I know when I was getting started I’d listen to certain lines and think, “it just sounds like he’s playing whatever until it resolves.” But I could never get confirmation that that’s what was actually going on. I’m sure this video will be a lightbulb goes on moment for some young players. Great stuff. Thank you.

Glad you enjoyed the video! In certain instances(like this chromatic idea), the notes are really secondary to the feel and motion of the line. In most cases the notes are pretty important, but in these cases they don't mean as much as the bigger picture!

Hope you have a great weekend as well! I'm really bummed about the loss of Jeff Beck. I drove out to a neighboring state last year to see him open for ZZ Top, and it was one of the most inspiring concerts I've ever been to! What is your favorite Jeff Beck album/memory?

@@mbacarellaguitar I never got to see him play live (which I sure hate) but really loved the Blow by Blow and Wired albums. He was just so original and seemed so free when he was improvising. Really hard to put into words, there will truly never be another like him. Best to you my friend, thanks so much for all that you do 🎸👍

@@JazzStrat781 Great choices! If you've never checked out his album Guitar Shop, I highly recommend it!
