His son died in a tubing accident. He never planned on singing this song again after this performance. As he walked off the stage, Ricky Skaggs was there. He hugged and told him the song was amazing. Greig said glad you liked it man because I'm never singing it again. Ricky said you have to. You have no idea how badly people need to hear it. So for us, he continues to sing it. Love your real reaction

My understanding is that his son drowned in a boating accident. He wrote the song exactly how you just heard it in 4 hours one night. This performance was 3 years after his sons death and this was his first time performing this song in front of a crowd and it took so much out of him physically and emotionally that he legitimately almost passed out on stage. He came off stage and told him good friend Ricky Skaggs he didn't think he could ever perform that song again. Ricky encouraged him and told him he had to keep singing this song because it was going to help so many people who were also grieving the loss of someone. And that is exactly what happened. He doesn't play it every show, some nights he just doesn't have it in him. Truly a moving story and song. A little good to come out of something so tragic.

If you will notice, just before starting Craig takes a deep steadying breath. This song takes a lot out of him both emotionally and physically. Because of that he only occasionally performs the song at concerts.

I go through the motions after all these years but not an hour goes by when I don’t think of him. My heart goes out to him and any other parent who has lost a child. He had many other songs that are wonderful and also have wonderful messages

There's events in life that we don't get over or even live with.
I describe it as living around it.
You can learn to be happy, love and live your life but that past is still there.
Yes, he's a veteran of Afghanistan(I think that was the country).
He recently in a ceremony at the Opry reenlisted in the Army Reserves.
His son was killed in an accident on the water at 19 years old.
As a civilian years ago he rescued children from a house fire and then stayed to help the firefighters extinguish the blaze on an exterior handline.
    He's one hell.of a guy.
There's lots more of his songs to check out.
This Ain't Nothing would be a great start.

I lost Ryan Grace, my two year old granddaughter on 08/11/2022. Ryan was killed instantly. I held my daughter while she held her daughter for hours until the authorities could reach us up in the mountains where we’d been camping. I was angry at God. Slowly I came to accept that I’ll never understand His decisions, but believe He has a plan for everyone. It’s taken me a year of therapy to heal and not feel broken. The day will come that I’ll be reunited with Ryan. 🙏

Losing my daughter she was 31 and she just died and the autopsy did not show any cause. Then my other daughter did the same thing. Her heart just stopped but had someone with her to do cpr and call for help. The police gave her narcan she was shocked many times. She Han no drugs or alcohol in her blood but come to find out she had a genetic heart problem that causes no problems until your heart just has a fatal arrhythmia. Fortunately she survived with some memory problems and they now think that is what took my oldest. We were all tested ,my husband was a carrier. I thank god every day I still have my youngest who was 37 3 yrs age. My oldest passed 10 yrs ago. I’d not have survived had I lost them both. The pain never goes away and several times a week I’ll have a breakdown and cry for a few hours. When I listen to this song it makes me cry every time.

1:25 and that’s interesting that he has the flag on them that brings attention to them. A lot of artists use flesh toned monitors mainly for appearances. I like when people personalize stuff like that. 5:35 it’s something you never get over. Almost 20yrs later and I still expect to see my son come out of his room or at night sleeping in his bed. The one thing I love about this video is his emotions. He’s not hiding his feelings at all and using it to give an amazing performance.

We rode the same bus and sat together everyday, he was my absolute best friend. He had a motorcycle and he rode it to my house to spend time there alot. On May 8 1976 he went missing later on that day after searching for hours they found him dead minutes from his home. I will never forget that. I think about him often.

When my baby sister died unexpectedly at 36 years old (after having buried our last 2 uncles in the previous 10 months), my dad said at the funeral that he was next. I yelled at him to not say that ... and for good reason (not including the fact that I hate funerals and can't even go into the room without a really good distraction or I can't breathe).
When I was in high school, a 19-year-old cousin died in a car accident in October. At the funeral, grandma said she would be next cuz she couldn't stand to bury another grandbaby. Grandma died that April. When my youngest uncle (2 years younger than dad) died in April 2021, my other uncle (a year older than dad) said it should have been him, and that next time it would be. He was right. He passed in November of 2021.
Then my baby sister passed at the end of January 2022. We buried her in February. Dad passed 364 days after her. We buried him this past February. We had thought we were going to lose him sooner, but after getting the right diagnoses and proper meds, he was doing better. He even got help for his PTSD from Nam that he had NEVER discussed with a doctor until he was talking to the doctor that figured out what was physically wrong with him. He told him he wasn't sleeping much. The doctor thought it was because of people coming in for vitals every couple hours. Dad told him, nope. It was the nightmares. They talked for an hour. Dad was transferred to a psych ward at a bigger hospital to get the mental health issues under control. We had our DAD back for those last 4 months.
Sorry for the word vomit. This song just hits so hard!

"The LORD gave, and the LORD hath taken away; blessed be the name of the LORD." Job 1:21b
I'm not sure if you are familiar with the story of Job in the Bible, but basically Job was a really good righteous Person who Feared and Worshipped God. God allowed Job's Faith to be tested and he lost everything in a single day, including his 10 children who were killed. After being told the news of everything that was Jobs response.
I don't have Kids so I can't even begin to imagine the pain of losing a child. I've been blessed and have not lost many people in my life, but the pain of losing the ones I have can be crippling. I'm so sorry about the loss of your girlfriend. I could see how much she meant, and still means to you.
