My God, what is it with Japan and their Voltron/Megazord/etc robots? Every time you see a group of smaller robots that can be arranged in a set, they almost always wind up combining into something big. It's awesome, don't get me wrong, but...it makes you wonder how the cliche hasn't gotten old by now?
Western cartoons do this too... Transformers still have combiners called gestalts, they've had them since the original show from the 80s (first with Devastator, the newest one is probably Volcanicus).

Most Robots that Combine togather are usually Super Robot type.
Gundam is also a combiner depending on what show
