There is a post on ed forums that gives some figures for different states dropping certain data types. I can confirm that anarchy state drops shed loads of smear campaigns from habs in anarchy! 27 from 3 runs is umm a lot. Maybe worth further investigation. Kind of makes sense too that BGS state affects drop rates of certain types of data.

Due to the "game mechanics" preventing you to stockpile, I usually trade up for the most expensive materials (e.g. low value to Graphene), since later I can trade it down when needed since 1 graphene will give you at least 2 of low value mat, thus saving inventory space...

Dawn to Earth Astronomy said in a video the most important thing: focus on the data gathering, because that is the rarest of all, everything else will just come by while you hunt data.

This is good advice, though doing missions are a fast way to get any data for engineering. So you can usually kill a lot of birds throwing that one stone.
In the end, for upgrading, the major bottle neck is manufacturing instructions and schematics. You can get them by missions but it's a slow way. So at ultimately, you need to do a touch of bottle neck killing by focusing on these.

I have found a good method - go to a system with "problem" state such as outbreak. Then do support missions to power on settlements. Power on the settlement then raid the place. You get loads of data + materials.

I have also found if you have an excess of mats and running out of space trade low value mats into the higher ones, that way you have a high value mat like graphene to trade down to lowers when you need them, amazing video as always Mr Buur o7

My dedicated on-foot ship is a Vulture with dual SRV bay (Scarab and Scorpion) and 2 dumb fire missiles, engineered FSD, 3 shield boosters and 1 heat sink launcher for survivability. A supercruise assist and advanced docking computer for QoL improvements. A DSS helps to also find organics to scan for some variaty.

I think it's good to note that you want to, when in settlements, use a suit with as many inventory slots as possible so that you can optimize your trips to the SRV to empty your inventory. Nothing can be as cumbersome as needing to navigate to a room 3 times because of small inventory space.
    o7 Commanders, and good luck!

Awesome footage, as always! The 1st thing to say about Ody engineering is to make sure to fish for G3 suits/weapons before starting to upgrade them. And, until on-foot Thargoids are added into the game (fingers crossed), grade 3 is sufficient for any in-game activity. Higher grades do help, but are not strictly necessary, so they can be worked towards at an enjoyable pace.
And stealthly-with-occational-snafu clearing out anarchy settlements is VERY enjoyable, even without missions.

Most players look at Elite Dangerous and only see the pew pew. When I look at ED :19 I see the pew pew support infrastructure. I see the empire I could build if I the game allowed players to take ownership of those industrial complexes. Allowing players to take control and construct and customize their own unique agriculture facility, mining settlement or Surface Fixed-Base Waypoint Outpost is "tycoon" gameplay that fits perfectly in FDev's wheelhouse.

When looking for materials in missions you don't need to select "show materials".. just look for engineering icon.. I find it helps to still see what missions offer engineering materials as well as what other rewards are available for each mission.. using the filter hides them...

Good suggestion of ship for Odyssey mission running, especially if you want to bring a friend. For solo, I've had a lot of good use out of my Courier and Imperial Eagle, both also loaded with dumbfires! Advanced Thrusters make for a speedy landing and getaway (especially if the settlement is firing at you on the way in!)

I tend to pick up most materials, then trade them at the barkeeper for the most expensive item in each category. When I am ready to do an upgrade, I then trade these items for the materials I need to do the upgrade. Although this will mean a loss in due to trading gathered, this loss can be made up quickly by gathering and trading again.

I'll break my runs down to raiding certain buildings. Raiding IND buildings for example. I'll break it down further into material or data runs, depending on what I need. It's also fun to run missions while mat/data gathering. Oh, and I also turn off the damn settlement alarms.

  • @unfluffydave8798

If you find a system with missions sending you to massacre a faction bear in mind that kills can only contribute to a maximum of 3 missions. Also, you can only take one mission that targets a specific settlement. If you take say an assassination mission at X settlement all other missions that target that settlement will disappear off the board. This doesnt apply to missions that send you to massacre a faction as you can do those at any settlement that faction owns. I try and get 2 "Massacre Faction" and 1 specific settlement mission together. As for Data, always try and get Opinion Polls (usually from data terminals in Habitats) and Smear Campaigns (I dont know where to get this one, something to do with systems in election state I read). Two of the ground equipment engineers require those items to unlock.

I've noticed that since update 14, locked lockers in SEC and CMD no longer have anything useful. Like other locked lockers, they only have illegal drugs and 'personal documents' type items. They used to have things like schematics, but sadly no longer.

Then going into combat I died. then I found myself in prison and after 30 minutes and a lot of fines and fees I'm back where I started with no mats. I need a no combat routine or lots of help as I can't seem to kill NPCs before they kill me.

If you stick to anarchy systems only you won't go to prison. I use an imperial courier because it is cheap to rebuy. A dumb fire missile rack for taking out crash site NPCs before landing. Ryu Keep in the Lu Dis system you can land right next to the depots, just walk in and take stuff from unlocked cabinets when nobody is looking. As you leave, stand at the exit to open the doors but don't just walk out. Use your external camera to look outside for guards. Step back if they are close to shut the doors again. When the coast is clear, run back to your ship and take off. Super cruise away, log out, log back in then go back and repeat...

I trade all above into that Up to 50. All above 50 will be transferred into my Carrier Up to 250. If i collected all non tradeable Mats, i only have to Go to my FC and trade down. Burr, I really like your videos, but this process just does not seem fun. The game design should organically reward the player with reasonable material progression, and mandatory 3rd party tool optimization for gathering to achieve semi-reasonable progression is awful. Think about your guide: specialize location, specialize ship and srv, use this app, make a list of goals, use the trader, pick only these missions then you can have fun??? Tragic game design. EDH is quite a bit easier to engage with.
