    I have been quilting off & on for several decades and since retiring a few years ago I have gotten into quilting often daily. I've even taught several others how to get started. However I happened to see a video of yours last week and I am going back and watching many of your older videos. I especially like the power cutting video but enjoying all in the Basics videos. Thank you so much for sharing. I am sharing these with others 👍

    The very first video of yours I watched was from 4 years ago, episode 101, power cutting, and I've been hooked ever since. Your explanations are so clear and make so much sense. I love them all! Thank you so much for taking the time to teach us.

    Oh my gosh. I have been teaching myself to quilt by watching lots of videos. I told my husband that I don't think I'm cutting right but I don't know what I am doing wrong. Now I get it and I am so going to try the power cutting. Hopefully it will make the difference. Thank you for such clear and understandable instructions.

    I use a 2-1/2 lb. ankle weight to help hold my rulers down. Works really well for me, also a 5 lb hand weight works as well.

    You are an excellent teacher! I've been thinking about putting together a makeshift sewing room and thinking I needed a cutting table that is lower than an ironing area. After cutting on my kitchen counter (high) and my dining room table (low), I found the dining room table gave me much better control of my cuts without any slippage. So thank you for bringing that up and the rest of your great tips! Most definitely subscribing!

    Thank you! I've been trying to teach people to cut using the ruler instead of the mat for years!! I tell them that what they're cutting off should be under the ruler. I love power cutting. Its so easy and efficient. I started doing it when I was making log cabin quilts w/ 1.5" strips. I can count in 1.5" units. It's a weird skill to have...but useful for quilting.

    I'm short :) and have a bad back. I use a 5 lb weight that I put on the ruler which also helps me.
    I also have a Martelli table which is adjustable. A bit pricey but so so worth it.

    Is that possible that when you cut with your ruler, your ruler has a little angle of some degree top to the right and not on 90’ angle??

    I’m just curious. Why don’t you use the type of ruler that has multiple cutting slits like at every have inch. Then you could make all 4 cuts without moving the fabric or the ruler. Thanks.

    • @QuiltingWithNancy
      @QuiltingWithNancy  4 года назад

      Hi Mary, I don't find them to be as accurate, partly because those little slots have a tendency to slide a little bit, so for me, I'm not a huge fan :)

    Thanks Nancy, watching how you used your ruler made a couple of things really click into place. Will the Great Basics book be available as a eBook?

    • @QuiltingWithNancy
      @QuiltingWithNancy  4 года назад

      Yes it will but we have to wait until the whole series is recorded so that it can have hyperlinks in the Ebook. We are record the last 3-4 segments in a few days so I am hoping the Ebook could be ready the end of June.

    I have problems with mobility and strength with my shoulders to my hands. So, I haveOmniGrid rulers and with or without your technique, it was always sliding. Do you know that Amazon selling rond pieces of sticky silicone that you stick to the back of rulers! For people who want to have a sticky rulerS!!

      Omnigrid sells that, it's called Invisigrip. Comes on a roll with enough for lots of your rulers.
