I was always told to start in the middle. I like the idea of doing the outside first because crooked makes me crazy. I love the details you share with us.
Again thank you for sharing, I’ve watched some of your videos more than once. Surprisingly I have pickup information that I missed out on the first time. So thanks for sharing 👍❤️😊
Great video, Nancy--you are a gifted teacher. I never heard of quilting on the "Ledge" before, but it makes sense, and I'm going to give it a try next time. Thanks so much for a very informative video!
Thank You very much for your tutorials!! I did couple quilts by now, but I'm still a beginner.I've learned so much from this 'Great Basics' and I'm looking forward for the next one!!!!!! Greetings from Germany!!!
Even though I’ve been Quilting for a few years now, I always pick up a new tip or two that is very helpful from every one of your videos. Thanks Nancy.
I agree, Nancy explains the "why" in a different way than most quilters so you understand what you are creating in a more thoughtful process, rather than "mindless sewing." There are times for that, too, but sometimes I need to understand the process as well.
for threading the invisible thread... use a red marker and mark the first inch of thread... then you can see it. Love your programs Nancy! Thank you for all the info you give us freely.
I have this same machine, think I've had it for 14 years and still love it. I've never tried the prewounds in it so definitely going to give those a try.
So informative. I love the tip about drawing up the bottom thread. I have been burying threads, but it can be a tedious chore. So this tip was a great help to me. Thanks again. You are a marvelous teacher.
Hello Nancy, I thank you so much for all the information you have given us here in this tutorial and I will apply it when putting together the pieces for the first quilt I will be working on. I have a box of blocks which my grandmother put together, but never got to finish assembling the quilt she was working on and my mother never did quilting on her machine. Now that I am retired I want to assemble a quilt just for my grandmother and then look to make some out of material which I purchased.
I would have loved to see the sewing on the edge of the quilt. I struggle with that bc the edge seems to want to get sucked in the seam. Any suggestions on how to keep that from happening?
Norma my suggestion is to ALWAYS make the backing and the batting at least 3 inches larger than the quilt all the way around. That way you have a place for your hands to hold the quilt as quilting and no edges should get sucked in. Hope that helps - Nancy
Me encanta tu programa soy super fans pero no he visto tecnicas nuevas gracias no hablo ingles pero te entiendlo la explicacion ojala pudieras hacer algunos en español
I see you have a walking foot on your grand quilter. What brand is it? I've been thinking of getting one for mine. Also, the topstitch needles. They don't give you any issues. I was told only to use Inspira from Pfaff. Your videos are wonderful.
Hi Ellen, actually I don't know what brand, it was the foot the my shop told me I needed. It is much larger than the "generic" walking feet for a normal machine. I have never used an Ispira needle, but if it works for you keep using them. I think they have a top stitch one? Thanks for watching and sharing!
I have a question...I’m a semi new quilter (started in October) but I occasionally run into this same problem..where my machine will decide to only make small stitches. I haven’t had this problem for quite a while and was trying to teach my sister and cousin how to quilt yesterday and suddenly my beautiful stitches are now tiny, uneven stitches again. My stitch length settings haven’t changed. Please help!
Hi Amanda, without actually watching you quilt i can't really say but often times it's that your quilt isn't free to move, something, possibly the edge of the table, is holding it back. That's that main reason i love the quilting table - Nancy
OnPoint-TV and Quilting with Nancy , I tried putting my presser foot pressure back to normal (I had let it up to make it easier to quilt) and that seems to have fixed it for now- knock on wood! I know what you mean about getting caught on the table though! I am itching for more space!
Hi - I LOVE my Icon!! In my studio I have my two machines set up all the time. The Icon is on my "normal" desk here i do all my piecing and garment work. The Grand Quilt is the one that fits in my quilting table and having the machine in the table makes the process of quilting so much easier. The Icon does quilt really, really nicely, but it doesn't fit in my quilting table. I generally have one machine on the "quilting" table all the time so i can go to my studio and quilt for ten minutes at a time if I want :) - Nancy
Awesomeness as always ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
So glad you showed how to pull up bobbin thread when finished.
Glad it helps :)

Your very welcome - and I made that phase up but it explains what I do :)
Fantastic! I am so grateful for this tutorial, my struggle with the machine just got a huge help. Thankyou from Indonesia

Thank you. I'm fixing to start quilting my first quilt and you answered some questions I had. I can't wait to get started. 😊
You are so welcome!
Love your videos really helpful - watching in Scotland
Glad you like them!
Great video.....thanks
Very informative. Also, by quilting around the border, it stabilizes the quilt so you won6end up with an uneven edge at some point
I still struggle to maintain a straight stitch line! These videos really encourage me to keep trying, thanks for posting!
Watching from South Australia 👋🥂
Great information! Definitely answering some questions on where to stitch and using invisible thread.
When using invisible thread on top, what are you using on the bottom?
I use the Bottomline thread from Superior Threads when using invisible on top.
@@QuiltingWithNancy IS IT INVISABLE OR POLYESTER BOBIN THREAD
Linda Love it’s a 60 wt. polyester thread.
That is the same thing I was going to ask.

Eso es muy dulce y espero que puedas seguirlo. Lo siento pero no sé español.
My sewing is like a spider on LSD, so I NEED invisible thread. For everything. 😁

Dial the stitch length down to .1, start with a few stitches, then dial up stitch length to...what?
to a 2.5 or a 3 depending on your machine. It should be approximately 8 to 10 stitches per inch.
@@QuiltingWithNancy Thank you , Nancy. I love your videos and your personality.
