  • Today, we are going to be going over Landing gear. More specifically, Folding Landing gear using timers and Event controllers. I will go over how I set them up, what to put in the timers and Event controllers, and a couple tips to make it easier. So grab your favorite flavor of crayon, that poaster board your mom picked up for you, and make sure that 3rd brain cell isnt in first place, because class... is in session. Good luck, students.

    Nice! Great tutorial!
I use lots of subgrid landing gear. I love how they disappear.
If you want some imagination-fuel, have a look at my P-38, the Tiburon Daysailer, the Sansibar Weekender, and Unfair Advantage. Best landing gear I've done.

Will definitely be checking them out! Always down to get more ideas!

They must have fixed the pistons? Last year I was playing a lot and made some amazing landing gear but once a piston was involved the magnetic plates wouldn’t deactivate so I could retract them. Great build and thanks for sharing!!

Ya this was made before the last update which I still belive changed pistons. Should still work this way though.

Bro how did you get the landing gear 'doors' on the bottom to interlock like that without klang? Antime I try my ship yeet into endless 720's XD.

Patience and riding a very fine line between sanity and klangs next sacrafice xD

awesome job on the tutorial!! I'm doing something kinda similar for my ship but I'm struggling with ship wobble since she's a hefty bugger :/ I was doing 2 different types of landing gears one with 2 hinge and one with a piston and hinge any ideas on what to do with ship wobble as I'm at a lose even with thrusters and gyros turned off I still get a fluctuation of .03 - .10 m/s of movement only way this stops is if the ship is completely turned off is there another block that creates movement that I might be missing?

I would make sure everything after the piston or hinge that is attached to the ship has "share inertia tensor" turned on. This can help with that. Also a mag plate on the last hinge or piston to lock you down could help too. This keeps the ship from trying to compensate with thrusters and gyros. Hopefully that helps!

@@phonicspider thankyou appreciate that but ya ive tried all that my guess is its a bug with hinges at this point as there's no movement below them. I don't even think its really a wobble its just rapidly changing movement speeds between 0.03-0.06 m/s but the ship is landed and locked in by the landing gear and if I walk on the landing feet and pistons there's no movement
my front landing gear consisted a hinge on each side that are upside down at the nose of the ship and fold out sideways, that has a few blocks between a set of 5 mag plates which I now switched to the landing feet as the plates seemed a little fragile. and the back has a set of hinges facing the back that folds down connected to a piston that connects to landing feet. all share inertia is set on and still persists even fiddled with the force applied settings between all components. ive shut thrusters off, turned gyros off, Locked the hinges nothing changes. unless there is another block that generates some kind of movement or vibration or something my guess is this cant be fixed :/ ive spent so much time on this thing 😢

@DARKH0BBIT to be honost if it's just that small movement (~0.10) than I wouldn't worry too much about it. Alot of ships will that when just hovering as well lol it is annoying but usually doesn't hurt anything.
Oh and if you've had mag plates the whole time, try landing and turning the thrusters off and not locking the plates. Sometimes the plates are to blame. Not sure why by they tend to make everything shift when they lock in certain situations.

Last time i tried to do this i got the geat to work but when they touched the block i wanted to land on ie my base it just blew holes into my base how did u get it to work without blowing holes

I only use the landing gear or the connector. I won't use both the same time. And when I use the gear, I am a little more gentle with the landing. Not sure why holes would be made though, unless your thrusters are on when your sitting there. 🤔 if anything the gear should break on the ship, not the other way around.

give me one reason why is your landing gear the size of your ship...and dont tell me its clang or space engineers ti wont be accepted as excuse .. the space you needd is 1x1x3 .. the blocks you need are 2 hinges on top of each and a mag.. done

Yes that can work, just not the way i did it to be honost lol This was my design that i came up with and thought it would be cool to share and teach how to build in case someone else thought so too. pretty much it really lol

LOL just takes practice and messing around honostly. Ive broken and blown up more ships than some people have built xD
