    As a young person I feel like ive been priced out of the hobby. At least in the US if you're making a normal wage the cost of living makes owning a fun car almost impossible with the way the car market has gone.

      I think it's still possible as a young person to own these cars, you just have to accept that factory turbo manual versions aren't affordable.
      You can buy base models like GX100s, 110s, C35s etc etc for cheap
      Slowly build it up to your dream specification, gives you something to slowly work towards

      There are a lot of fun cars out there, especially if you live in US where you have one of the largest car markets, stop looking at these overappreciated JDMs and you will find that you can have the same amount of fun in a 1000$ volvo than a 20k RX-7

    the scene is thriving, I just feel (like most) that I was born maybe 10 years too late.
    In the UK, the prices have gone insane - I love my EP3 but even they are starting to creep to "not worth it" territory. The thought of owning an 86/FD/S Chassis is just out of most of our reach, unless you bought them 10 years ago.

    • @IdiotRace
      @IdiotRace 9 месяцев назад

      I made a massive comment about this but it appears that youtube ate it. I was in the market for another fun car after selling my JDM SW20 Turbo earlier this year. Looked at all the options of importing something from japan and couldn't believe the prices for stuff, like completely thrashed AE86's going for £25 grand even before importing fees.
      Decided it wasn't worth dealing with 30 year old JDM car problems anymore and just bought a facelift GT86 instead, which still has that 90's jap car feel or at least to me it feels like it. Apart from only being a couple years old.

    • @juiceboxforyou
      @juiceboxforyou  9 месяцев назад +5

      @@IdiotRace Its very cool that you were still able to get your hands on one of these, its a real shame that these cars are going for insane money, and in Ireland its even more fucked up as we have the VRT to add onto the import price just to get license plates, adding 10k onto any chassis that's less than 30 years old, further fucking it for Irish car guys in their early 20s

    • @IdiotRace
      @IdiotRace 9 месяцев назад

      @@juiceboxforyou I'm gonna be honest if I lived in Ireland looking at the costs of owning any fun car I'd probably just wouldn't bother now. It's still an expensive hobby here but I guess compared to most places in Europe it's not so bad. I still wish I'd bought an R32 GT-R when they were at the bottom of the depreciation curve, but tbh at that point I probably couldn't afford to run one. Frustratingly now they cost about as much as a mortgage deposit.
      Another reason why I went with a newer car was because of ULEZ, I live a bit out of London but I still have friends who live there. Although actually some AE86's would be exempt soon as soon as stuff reaches 40 years old.
      I dunno though, I feel like I've lost a bit of passion I had for cars and driving really. I'm hoping to do some more trackdays next year alongside a Euro road trip to see if that rekindles my interest.

    Looks like a blast. I have to admit that as an American I'm a bit jealous. Where I live if you got that many modded cars together for the night drive the cops would have told us all to scram before we even got out of the parking lot, never mind the shenanigans that followed.
    I think car appreciation and car build quality for "existing members" of the culture is at an all-time high, but the places you can enjoy said cars is shrinking rapidly.
    My other main concern is how we make sure it's accessible to younger people. Some of the other comments already said it, but the prices for cars has gone nuts in many countries.

    • @juiceboxforyou
      @juiceboxforyou  9 месяцев назад +2

      Very well put, yeah its exactly whats happening to the generation I grew up in, people are very into it that are still around, but the barrier to entry on the golden era cars is getting higher all the time

  • @danieloneill6375
    @danieloneill6375 9 месяцев назад +9

    In summary, yes it is but it’s very underground and the problem lies in the price of the cars, actually getting the cars and then to make one your own build is relatively impossible because it is getting harder and harder to find any sort of a car be it a Honda, Nissan or Toyota unmolested. I feel like it’s harder for younger people like myself to get into the Japanese’s cars as insurance is absolute assault, personally I would love to be able to daily my civic but in realism insurance would rather insure me on a shitbox of a mk4 golf or bora. I tried get a quote the other day for the craic on my civic and they just laughed at me, you’d want to be minimum of 24 or 25 is what the woman on the phone said. Sad really but it’s the way it’s gone.

    • @juiceboxforyou
      @juiceboxforyou  9 месяцев назад +3

      I hear you, its misery for the younger generations, but many moons ago a lot of people were in the same boat, a look at an Auto trader from 2008 or similar will show wild prices, but yeah sadly all these golden era cars are only going one way, and that's unfortunate for younger lads who want to enjoy the cars that are glamorised by youtube channels and social media, I guess if people sussed out other chassis, like fits, the vitz or colts or other lesser known stuff from Japan they might get the same buzz, but again its outside the golden era bracket, its shite and Ive felt it throughout the years, only really being able to take part myself after 27 years of age, when I was young I hadn't a cent to buy cars, during the recession when they were cheap, none of us had jobs to afford the cars and now that its back again, the prices have moved so far its hard to justify 20K for a 180sx, I do feel for the younger crowds as the final blow a lot of the time is insurance, Ireland really doesn't want people under 25 in anything sporty from the 90s

    Young people priced out of it in Ireland, can’t buy anything cool for a reasonable price. And even if you get something cool insurance will shaft you out of it, certainly a hobby for older people now sadly

    As for the ae86 community, It’s just gotten expensive and it’s discouraging to the new/younger generation to come into the drift community. Unless they have good wage to build a solid machine. I hate resellers

      @@V1_JFN great cars, made in the same factory as the AE86, both the IS200 and the Altezza, they will undoubtedly go down in history as the follow-up act to the 86 here in Ireland due to the price and the fact it was the last cheap ish four-cylinder RWD internal combustion engine Toyota, that was still somewhat analogue and lets be honest, when done right that are an exceptionally good looking four-door
