Awesome coverage. I really did not expect such a major improvement for Dragon's Dogma 2 given the minor %10 boost to the CPU. Perhaps extra memory bandwidth helped but it will be really interesting to find out whether there is a bigger architectural upgrade as you suggest!
Thanks for making such a detailed review! I wonder, what effect the PS5 Pro will have for us PSVR 2 users? No mans sky is one title, that I would be eager to try out if i can afford a pro later this year
I said the same here, PSSR is much better but only the Pro mode uses it. But I found DD2 made a much bigger IQ leap over the base PS5 than Stellar Blade did on PS5.
I may get one eventually once they patch Returnal ( my fav PS5 game ) i am glad it is not the 30+ Tflops monster we thought it was....lets save that for PS6 🔥
1. Operating noise is now louder than normal PS5 2. Recording in 4K resolution is now possible even with VRR enabled 3. Those who are replacing the earlier version will be a little surprised at the small size and light weight of the unit when they actually hold it in their hands. 4.You will be affected by the disease of buying titles that are compatible with Pro enhanced.
@@OG_Daz I bought my PS5 3 months after it was released. I was attracted by the fact that the console only made a faint noise no matter how hard I played games. This is truly the next generation of consoles. I am not sure if the same phenomenon will occur with the Pro version, as I have not yet played the games carefully, but with the standard PS5, the USB ports on the front and back of the PS5 get particularly hot, causing the LAN and USB cables to be disconnected frequently. I sincerely hope that this problem is solved in the Pro version.
@@amnril don’t get me wrong, the pro is by no means loud, but my launch day PS5 has always been completely silent. I can definitely hear the fan on the pro. Hope it doesn’t turn into a jet engine like the ps4 pro 😂
One question please! Is there a difference in running the games between a ps5 pro digital vs a ps5 pro with a disc drive? And what are those differences? Which is a better choice leaving out of the equation the ease of having physical copies of the games in your collection..Thanks in advance..Big big fan!!!!
I have Xbox Series S, now I am going to buy PS5 Slim for around 450 during Black Friday. Already ordered SpiderMan Miles Morales and Ghost of Tshushima Disc. Hoping for good Single player game and experience with my 1080p monitor.
He couldn't enjoy those games on Xbox 😂. But okay. Halo coming to Playstation. It'll be running better on Playstation and not xbox eco system it was created on. Hmmm. Inferior huh 😂. Unreal Engine 5 for the W. Welcoming the Halo Family to Playstation lol. I'm not mad. I grew up buying all consoles. But settled in Playstation eco system. Don't get me wrong there's games on both platforms you can't play on the other. I enjoy Gears of War Franchise and Halo. I grew up playing Halo Online. The first online gaming experiences that were happening. COD i played on both Xbox and Playstation. Even owned a pc at 14-19. I upgraded that thing till i got tired of that and just wanted a console. So to each there own. I've played on all STKs. Yes even played "The Oregon Trail" growing up. I can tell you this. Games have changed from 93 to what today is. And I'm glad to have watched it all growing up. The funny thing is i was dreaming of what we're playing today at a very young age. Just to see it her to where it is in my 30's. Games are only gonna get better!
Your insane! :) Maybe it's because I always run them horizontal, but this looks miles better than the OG disc based machine it's just replaced, and I liked that!
This seems to be a really great piece of work, thank you :) I'm considering buying one early new year, but I'm still uncertain as i have a good pc and a regular ps5. Can i ask though, what's your background in gaming? Obviously you work for IGN "7 out of 10", but do you have any further background?
I feel that the PS5 Pro is a small step in technology for people who already have the PS5 but for those of us who Heldout waiting for years not having a PS5 or playing PS5 games this is a moment we've been waiting for. The PS5 Pro will be a huge upgrade and advancement from our PS4s and will be a great console to have while we wait for the PS6 in 2027 or 2028.
There’s going to be outliers but there’s games that were kind of unplayable in performance mode on base ps5 that now look like you’re playing a on a mid to high end pc: FF7 rebirth went from 1080p not constant 60 to 4k60 RE4 remake went from 4k with RT and hair at 45fps to 80fps Jedi survivor went from no RT, soft FSR image 60fps to 4k image with RT at solid 60fps BG3 just got an update that I’m interested to see.
So Alan Wake 2 has full ray tracing on PS5 Pro? It only has 1 of the RT settings and it is on a lower setting than the PC absolute lowest with a culled draw distance on the BHV. Also the RT mode is only on in 30fps mode meaning your 6800 comparison is flawed. PS5 Pro is slower than 4060 Ti in this example. Always knew there was a console bias on here. Confirmed today! Lower base resolution Lower than the lowest RT setting on PC Still cannot get a locked 30
I tested some games and it is much sharper and smoother, and some are not even patched yet, i come from a base ps5 and have a rx6800 gaming pc, im surprised by the ps5 pro and cant wait for the patches and games in the upcoming months
Digital Foundry said the PS4 enhancement doesn't work with film grain. They said whatever they're using doesn't know what to do with a grainy image, so it just looks the same.
What settings did you use for alan wake 2 on 6800 to replicate the PRO? Because on pro the post process is low as well as some shadow filtering. Shadow resolution is on medium. RT reflections can be enabled in the ini file. If you used low path tracing it's not a 1-1 comparison.
Great job. It's interesting that John at Digital Foundry named the Stellar Blade Pro patch as being one of the most impressive updates he's come across; specifically the Pro Enhanced Balanced Mode. Meanwhile DF's Oliver wasn't impressed by the Dragons Dogma patch. I suppose there will be a degree of subjectivity with these enhancements, for example, I am not all keen with what Insomniac has done with Spider Man: Remastered and R+C, updates, both look blurry and are nowhere near as sharp/detailed as what the vanilla PS5 fidelity mode does, whereas FF: Rebirth is the exact opposite and looks great on the Pro.
Exactly, it will always be horses for courses on things like image quality and even performance. I am testing more and FF7 is a stunning update, the best yet.
The only games that will see ANY performance improvements will be games that either make poor use of dynamic resolution, or otherwise had the resolution chosen poorly by the developers. In general, if a GPU-only upgrade could improve performance, then you could have already achieved that improvement by lowering resolution.
Playing elden ring yesterday, there was no difference in the picture quality so looked great on both modes, and was buttery smooth on 'prioritise framerate' mode but looked like quality mode. Basically puts my 7900x3d/7900xtx pc build to shame when talking about price!
Can we talk about how shitty it is that Sony is charging $800 for this console but can't even offer patches for all their own exclusives? At a certain point when your customer is paying this much money, it's time to start giving people something extra to justify things ....no Returnal, Ghost of Tsushima, Uncharted 4, Death Stranding, Astrobot, or Helldivers 2 patches? Come on Sony ....and while we're at it isn't it time we got patches for the ps4 games that never got patched? Also, learning that some of these Pro patches with PSSR are not even getting us great image quality in games like Alan Wake 2, Stellar Blade, and Dragon Age is ....bullshit. So, we're never getting a good version of Alan Wake 2 after all ....great, one of the best looking PC games that was awful on PS5 is now only mildly improved ...can we at least as journalists TRY to put a little pressure on these developers to do better? 860p base resolution is NOT going to result in a good image no matter how good your upscaling solution is
Wtf are you talking about with Stellar Blade? Ghost of Tsushima already had a 4k60 patch, it was the PS5/Director's Cut version. It is up to the devs and not Sony as well. There are many games already that have patches such as GoW Ragnarok, Horizon 2, Hogwarts, etc. Also, Alan Wake 2 even struggles with very high end PCs, so I don't know what you expect from $700. It is fucking amazing.
Does the included plastic 'stand' pieces work to set the console horizontally when you have the disc-drive attached? Or do we have to buy a vertical stand and position the console as such?
In Europe it's totally stupid. €900 with a disc drive! My PS5 launch model was €499 with disc drive. Nearly 2x the price to get 25% better performance than my 4 year old hardware? LOL, no thanks Sony. Maybe in other regions it's more reasonable.
In some EU countries it is even more as the disc drive prices skyrocketed, also in some countries the “disc free” (as Sony puts it) ps5 pro is 900EUR if you take info consideration the local currency. This also makes me worried about ps6 price.
@NXGamer could you confirm if your footage of Jedi survivor is from the patched version that includes new modes for ps5 pro? Your video says disc version which means you didn’t apply the patch didn’t you?
Hello Michael, thanks again for your great work. I was wondering : why is it exactly that AW2 ran so significantly better on Series X? Mesh shaders? Or something else? And why do you think the PS5 Pro does not seem to perform as well as expected on that game? Is it code-related? I'd really like to know.
Just as an fyi, you got the Stellar Blade kind of mixed up. The pro mode with pssr is a locked 60fps and people who have a 120fps, vrr display can run the game at 80fps in this mode. The Pro Max mode only runs 50fps and has a less stable image.
You know something I noticed is on the home screen of my TV with the PS5 pro The TV sounded bass here The speaker sounded better and clear maybe that's just in my head but it seemed like it was definitely better with the PS5 pro
Very strange results in dragon's dogma 2 pc, digital foundry found a 26% improvement from launch to the latest patch for Zen2 CPUs, with a Ryzen 5 3600 running at 38/45fps in the city at max settings with rt on. Here a 5600x had virtually no improvements with the patches and is slower than DF's 3600... DF video: ruclips.net/video/LEp5f5Np2Lo/видео.html
I don’t think this will sell much. Expensive consoles pretty much never sell no matter what era it is. It doesn’t need to be judged by the enthusiasts only becuase the general public won’t buy it. The Xbox One X and PS4 Pro both sold at the launch retail price of the console so to any new potential buyer it wouldn’t be that bad. At $700 with no disc drive is such a stupid decision especially with the disc version being the more popular version. I would assume of the people who are enthusiasts are more likely to value a disc drive so Sony’s decision to not have one built in for that price is even more dumb. Not going to say this is a failure but I expect a much lower margin of the console sales to go to the PS5 Pro than the PS4 Pro
Now iam more interested in PS6 with an improved pssr , its going to be so good all games at 60fps minimum on console as standard will be the change i am waiting
I read devs are very pleased with what they were able to do with Lies of P. They said it got a 30% increase in quality mode in the frame rate. Have fun!
Lol you don't the difference is easily noticable if you have a decent tv. The graphics are clearly better and buttery af. Zero regrets on this purchase . Haters gonna hate. Some many people regurgitating the same.comments when they haven't even had a hands on experience on a decent tv
You don't need to zoom in to see the difference in Rebirth, Steller Blade and F1 to name but a few. You don't need to zoom in to feel playing games at higher frame rates or enjoy seeing better ray tracing at 30fps PSSR will improve over time and devs will adjust to it better over time. For console enthusiasts with high-end TVs and money available, it is worth it.
I can guarantee you that Ragnarok, Horizon Zero Dawn RM and F1 looks absolutely fantastic in their performance modes on the pro. Ragnarok and Zero Dawn are examples of just how good the Pro can be. Again though, devs need to get their fingers out
In South Africa the pro is so expensive I can build a complete pc all new parts with case , psu, ssd, motherboard cpu and 16gb ram with an rx7800xt for less than the cost of ps5 pro. Something is very wrong in the market if this is possible.
@@e.777.r2 You are missing the point I'm trying to make. Consoles should be way cheaper. Also what chance do you think the base ps5 or even ps5 pro has with gta6 if you think the rx7800xt won't be up to the task?

I sit 8 feet from a 77" OLED and 100" projection screen with JVC 4K projector in a dedicated media room. I am more than happy with the launch PS5 (whose performance has not yet been fully maxed out despite being four years old) and I have no problem saving my money for the PS6 in 2028 (if I'm still playing video games, the video game industry absolutely sucks right now).

I love it when people comment on the testing videos and say “i SeE nO DiFfErEnCe” yeah man cuz your watching 4k footage in 1080p lol
Yeah that's what it is😂😂😂😂
@ watch a comparison video on your phone then on a 4k monitor
i am watching on 4k monitor and the difference is very very small, not worth the price
I'm watching it in 2160p. Lol, what do you mean?
@@GameFormativeyou're still on youtube
Awesome coverage. I really did not expect such a major improvement for Dragon's Dogma 2 given the minor %10 boost to the CPU.
Perhaps extra memory bandwidth helped but it will be really interesting to find out whether there is a bigger architectural upgrade as you suggest!
Thanks for making such a detailed review! I wonder, what effect the PS5 Pro will have for us PSVR 2 users? No mans sky is one title, that I would be eager to try out if i can afford a pro later this year
Man, you turned this around quickly. Fantastic review! 🙌
Getting my PS5 Pro in a few hours 😍
Me to the dpd driver is an hour away 👍
Saame it better hurry up😂
@@stephensearles673mine to probably on the same van. 😂.just did not get the disk drive. Still trying.
Got mine early, two days ago. Sucks you've had to wait until today.
Just picked mine up..❤😊
Very nice technical review my man. Thank you for all the hard work you put into making this. ❤
That's a throw back used to love that song in your intro
DF felt pro mode in stellar blade was best version and offered up to 80fps in a fairly stable way, and PSSR offered better results than TAA in pro max
I said the same here, PSSR is much better but only the Pro mode uses it. But I found DD2 made a much bigger IQ leap over the base PS5 than Stellar Blade did on PS5.
@@NXGamerI mean dragon dogma looks worse then stellar blade that’s why because stellar blade on based ps5 still looks amazing
So is dragon's dogma 2 really cpu bound on console if there is massive fps boost on ps5 pro with same cpu?
There’s simply cpu heavy areas like the town area and npcs just popping in out of nowhere
Appreciate all the work here in such short window. Cheers
Thank you for your hardworking! I found your video more interesting than digital foundress videos
I may get one eventually once they patch Returnal ( my fav PS5 game ) i am glad it is not the 30+ Tflops monster we thought it was....lets save that for PS6 🔥
Awesome to see lots of games not covered by DF. Both your reviews are really good unlike many other more mainstream channels
1. Operating noise is now louder than normal PS5
2. Recording in 4K resolution is now possible even with VRR enabled
3. Those who are replacing the earlier version will be a little surprised at the small size and light weight of the unit when they actually hold it in their hands.
4.You will be affected by the disease of buying titles that are compatible with Pro enhanced.
I’ve come from a launch day PS5 and the Pro is noticeably louder and the exhausts are very hot.
@@OG_Daz that’s odd, my launch day PS5 and PRO are both quiet…. Unless I’ve gone deaf.
@ I’ve never had any disconnection issues with my launch day PS5, but it did get quite hot and by extension the cables around the back also.
The difference is one has disc drive, one doesn't. Perf is the same
I have Xbox Series S, now I am going to buy PS5 Slim for around 450 during Black Friday. Already ordered SpiderMan Miles Morales and Ghost of Tshushima Disc.
Hoping for good Single player game and experience with my 1080p monitor.
Enjoy your inferior experience
@@ShinzoX90??
You really need 4K and especially good HDR to appreciate the real power.
Thank your for the hard work, picking up the Professional PlayStation in a few hours!
The last few minutes of the video is frozen btw...
😂😂
Getting off work early so i can pick my pre order up. Cant wait to see what this looks like on my LG C4
I actually prefere the look of the original console
Same
Yep
Especially with the disk drive attached.
There’s going to be outliers but there’s games that were kind of unplayable in performance mode on base ps5 that now look like you’re playing a on a mid to high end pc:
FF7 rebirth went from 1080p not constant 60 to 4k60
RE4 remake went from 4k with RT and hair at 45fps to 80fps
Jedi survivor went from no RT, soft FSR image 60fps to 4k image with RT at solid 60fps
BG3 just got an update that I’m interested to see.
Great Review, excellent analysis as always!! Just waiting on mine today!
Certainly will be watching for any future updates about the Pro once more games update or come out
So now it’s here can we actually confirm what PC specs match Pro? Interested in some test and price/performance comparison
Small step. Actaul pro owner here.
Fantastic upgrade if you have a good tv to support it. Blown away!!!!👍
Thank you ; you just convinced me to opt for the base one .
Lower base resolution
Lower than the lowest RT setting on PC
Still cannot get a locked 30
Without a special PS5 mode, which mode should i run my ps5 pro? Quality or performance? I normally like better graphics.... Advice appreciated.
I am once again reminded that driveclub still looks really good, lol.
Driveclub needs a rerelease so you can get 60fps or higher on PC and PS5. It’s such a shame the studio closed down after the game’s release
@ They reformed under codemasters though. The last dirt game (not rally) was by them and you can feel the same dna- scratches the itch a bit :)
Loving your work. Thank you
Great review, no fanboys bs, no bias towards a brand, just facts👏👏
Imagine there was as many PS5 exclusive games that it was different variants of the PS5 console :O
I tested some games and it is much sharper and smoother, and some are not even patched yet, i come from a base ps5 and have a rx6800 gaming pc, im surprised by the ps5 pro and cant wait for the patches and games in the upcoming months
Donyou think a 1440p hdr vrr 120hz display will see a difference?
Can’t wait to upgrade I was skeptical about it but I’ve learned that naraka blade point will be enhanced
Digital Foundry said the PS4 enhancement doesn't work with film grain. They said whatever they're using doesn't know what to do with a grainy image, so it just looks the same.
Great video 👏 keep up the good work 👏
What settings did you use for alan wake 2 on 6800 to replicate the PRO? Because on pro the post process is low as well as some shadow filtering. Shadow resolution is on medium. RT reflections can be enabled in the ini file. If you used low path tracing it's not a 1-1 comparison.
Man, I can't describe how much I miss your honest videos that tell both the good and the bad, not like the IGN era trying to sell products.
In general, if a GPU-only upgrade could improve performance, then you could have already achieved that improvement by lowering resolution.
i cant get past just 60 fps , might as well keep the ps5 on performance
Great video!
This time I shall try to wait a year...hmm
You can do it!
I’d like to see a section on the console level that lets us turn on and off things like HFR/120hz, HDR, enhanced modes on a per title basis.
Playing elden ring yesterday, there was no difference in the picture quality so looked great on both modes, and was buttery smooth on 'prioritise framerate' mode but looked like quality mode. Basically puts my 7900x3d/7900xtx pc build to shame when talking about price!
I’m happy to get mine today!! I’m so excited
I’m jealous of anyone who has the ps5 optical drive in hand ready for their ps5 pro
860p base resolution is NOT going to result in a good image no matter how good your upscaling solution is
That’s the point of ai upscale stellar blade looks better being upscale so idk why you are crying
The pro's details sure are quite tremendous.
someone should test the unlocked photo mode of the game Control, and investigate why GT7 PSVR2 does look sharper even without the patch out yet.
I just tested Dark Souls 2 and 3 on the PS5 Pro and the gains are definitely noticeable.
@@TheInsomnatech what about sekiro?
Does the included plastic 'stand' pieces work to set the console horizontally when you have the disc-drive attached? Or do we have to buy a vertical stand and position the console as such?
If you are concerned with price, this isn’t for you
Ok so the disc drive come with stand pieces that are longer to make up for the extra bulk.
Great stuff! Looking forward to more testing 👍
Thinking about selling my OG launch day p5 for thr pro. Never got the ps4 pro so maybe this one
@@mravg79 Yes the high-price is surely intended to condition people towards a very high PS6 price
@NXGamer could you confirm if your footage of Jedi survivor is from the patched version that includes new modes for ps5 pro? Your video says disc version which means you didn’t apply the patch didn’t you?
I think he intentionally used the launch version to show the improvements
What do you think sony will do with all the roms the pro has?
What tv you need? LG evo
It’s here!
Now iam more interested in PS6 with an improved pssr , its going to be so good all games at 60fps minimum on console as standard will be the change i am waiting
Just waiting for my GameStop to open then gonna dive into the Pro.
Looking forward to FF7 Rebirth and a new playthrough Lies of P
I read devs are very pleased with what they were able to do with Lies of P. They said it got a 30% increase in quality mode in the frame rate. Have fun!
Great information.
please do pc comparison against ps5 pro too.
It's not worth it when you have to zoom in to see the image difference
When you aren’t a peasant, better is better. Convince yourself if you need to though.
You don't need to zoom in to feel playing games at higher frame rates or enjoy seeing better ray tracing at 30fps
PSSR will improve over time and devs will adjust to it better over time.
Again though, devs need to get their fingers out
@@OG_Daz I promise you, whatever Walmart brand $150 1st gen lcd he is viewing it on, won’t be able to tell the difference
What about games like spiderman 2, that included unlocked framerate modes, how big difference is there?
In South Africa the pro is so expensive I can build a complete pc all new parts with case , psu, ssd, motherboard cpu and 16gb ram with an rx7800xt for less than the cost of ps5 pro. Something is very wrong in the market if this is possible.
Do you even have that kind of money?
Ok go play GTA6 next year with that setup 🫵🥱😂😂
@@e.777.r2 You are missing the point I'm trying to make. Consoles should be way cheaper. Also what chance do you think the base ps5 or even ps5 pro has with gta6 if you think the rx7800xt won't be up to the task?
@@jacquesdebruin796these are toxic fanbase trolls. They don't care about the different factors in every country and are to simpleminded hence why sony can profit from them so easy. @@e.777.r2imagine thinking a console even the pro will run gta6 well, it’ll be one of the most demanding games of the generation. The pro will be lucky to hit 60, people are already hoping it atleast has 40fps vrr mode cause they know it won’t hit 60.
I sit 8 feet from a 77" OLED and 100" projection screen with JVC 4K projector in a dedicated media room. I very much doubt that I will discern a noticeable improvement with the PS5 Pro from regular seating distance and most people will not either (unless I am pixel peeping with my face 1 foot from the screen).
I am more than happy with the launch PS5 (whose performance has not yet been fully maxed out despite being four years old) and I have no problem saving my money for the PS6 in 2028 (if I'm still playing video games, the video game industry absolutely sucks right now).
