  • Janis Amolins, a renowned arm wrestling champion, offers valuable insights into arm wrestling biceps training. In 'Ask The Champ,' he emphasizes the importance of strength over size when it comes to biceps. In the world of arm wrestling, having strong biceps is crucial. Janis takes you through his workout routine, demonstrating full range, partial range, and isometric exercises to help you build the kind of biceps strength needed for success in arm wrestling.

    Coach Ray, Janis, thank you both so much for regularly putting out these videos. It's awesome to get info and thoughts about training from both of you guys. The fact that you guys both do so well in competitions not only proves that this stuff works but it also shows that there is no substitute for old fashioned hard work. There are no shortcuts but for optimal results you must work both smart *and* hard. 👍💪

    I just arm wrestled friends, but i did Travis Bagent's routine and I studied his style closely and trained with bands and nobody could even touch my wrist or bicep angle. I built up my static bicep hold to 105lbs (it's a lot for me) and side pressure to 60lbs.

    Good vid guys!! MMA was my thing for years... I'm transitioning to arm wrestling now that I'm 43. Not quite as abusive to my body. So i need all the tips i can get. By the way, any tips for supplements that will help with tendon strength? Besides HGH, i can't afford that right now lol. Thanks 💪💪💪

      Try a collagen supplement with various types of collagen (I was using bone broth powder, I need to get back on it tbh. Bone broth powder also contains a diversified amino acid profile which is generally a good thing). I think it's type 2 collagen that is most prominent in tendons, but you can Google around and find research papers on it. I also think hyaluronic acid and, of course, more standard joint supplements like msm, glucosamine, and chondroitin are helpful.

    • @dqreps
      @dqreps 5 лет назад +2

      @@yellowpanda738 Yeah man I tried that years ago. Along with chondroitin. I'm going to start taking it again for prevention. I actually tore a ligament in my left elbow years ago. Luckily it wasn't my right but now I'm just trying to keep them healthy. I can't remember it being real effective for that injury in particular but I know a lot of people swear by it. I think it's best to help prevent injuries or help with pain like you said, whereas I had an actual tear at the time.. Funny enough, you can actually buy cow colostrum in powder form that you just drink and a helps the tendon strength, inflammation, gut health and all kinds of other things. Sounds funny but it's really good for you. Bone broth is excellent as well and has glucosamine and chondroitin in it and i just started that a few days ago. Just wanted to get as many ideas as I could. I'm not a pup anymore so I need all I can get. I'm going to stock up on some good joint, tendon, ligament shit. And I don't hate you man LOL. Just like to have fun that's all, thanks! 😁💪💪

    For this type of cable machine, the equivalent weight is half of what the stack weighs. So you put 40 kg on there it's equivalent to 20 kg dumbbell. When you tell this to people at the gym it really crumbles their ego because they are lifting much less than they thought they were.

    Keep the content comin, guys. Love this channel. Could you maybe do a vid talking about structuring an armwrestling gym schedule, how often to train bicep/pronation/supenation/cup/etc? Perhaps even a written-up week of routines on a dry-erase board? I think this would be super useful for those of us getting started transitioning from traditional gym powerlifting schedules to armwrestling strength training.

      Todd Hutchings has a full workout schedule formatted over the course of a week. Ryan Bowen does it (and explains it) on his RUclips channel. It's arguably the best workout for general fitness focused on arm wrestling. Michael Todd's circuits are also amazing; Mr. and Mrs. Monster is the channel. Both offer strength gains and blood flow/repair so you don't have to take time off.

    This is why I said I do cable curls on your previous free weight curl video. After years and years of free weight curls once I found arm wrestling I realised how weak I was with a close angle due to free weights hitting your biceps the most when you have an open elbow angle.
    People arm wrestle me and they blow out that I feel way way stronger with an open elbow. I love the kings move/open top roll because my bicep feels really strong when my arm is open.

    • @shinrionah5698
      @shinrionah5698 5 лет назад

      finnsk3 the braquial biceps is actually stronger past the 90 degrees angle than any closer

    • @TimmyTurner421
      @TimmyTurner421 5 лет назад

      EXACTLY! 100% agree

    • @finnsk3
      @finnsk3 5 лет назад

      @@shinrionah5698 that would make sense. The guys I train with have always trained arm wrestling specific movement and close angles so they feel really strong when they have a close angle but if I open them up with back pressure they lose most of their strength. With me due to years of strength training they open me up and my bicep just stops them. Against me it's better to just go straight up sideways as I don't have much sidepressure, I just have a lot of back pressure. I have been training arm wrestling for 9 months so I am slowly building up my sidepressure and tendon strength.

    • @finnsk3
      @finnsk3 5 лет назад

      It also makes me laugh that Janis starts adding sidepressure when he is failing. When I do that movement my sidepressure fails when I go to heavy and I end up just curling it. I can curl the same weight as Janis is doing in this video but I can't use any sidepressure. My sidepressure maxes at like 30kg true weight.

    • @shinrionah5698
      @shinrionah5698 5 лет назад

      finnsk3 yeah, obviously if you train close angles you’ll become good on it, but the natural strength on biceps is greater on middle angle of rom, but realistically, short guys are better training open angles because we have disadvantage at the start so we always have to catch hits on an open angle, but if you’re taller with longer arms you’ll benefit more of close angles

    It is funny that many people think that pull ups and biceps training are similar but the force that can be generated in the pull up position is much more than can be generated by the biceps alone--I think as much as 3x or 4x for a well developed body builder

    then there is one who tries to get the meat of his hand around your fingers and squeeze so as to hurt you but I think that is outright cheating and if in a refereed match the ref is not supposed to allow that-usually friends such as you have don't do things like that in friendly competition

    Not related to this video, but can someone define what a "Super Match" is and what makes it different? Is it a one-on-one match, where the competitors are matched up beforehand for ONE big showdown, rather than a tournament style with brackets and multiple matches?

    As armwrestling directly or indirectly hit the biceps so how to manage it with training of other body parts like triceps,legs,back chest, shoulder? so that each bodypart is in equal proportion

      Don't work trough pain, absolutely rest and put ice, once inflammation has got away start super slowly to strenghten that part. Tendons takes forever in both getting strong and heal

    • @armwrestlinggratis6214
      @armwrestlinggratis6214 5 лет назад

      If you experience tendonitis just take food supplement with anti inflamatory. And rest is important after 2-3 days it will relax the tendon and you can go back training. Always go with proper form or else you will hurt yourself badly.

    full range of motion for every body part is such a stupid idea. What's generally more important for hypertrophy and strength is time under tension. Training for power is a little different, but it depends on the sport.
