Legend indeed! That fish tested your tackle, line capacity, kayak capacity and paddling capacity! You and Jason are great partners. Thanks for sharing the catch video!
Congratulations! You that’s an AHI! Good going on this catch, you did an excellent job. Wow, what a nice catch and you were thinking shark a one point. 🎉 Aloha
Thanks! It really felt like a shark was chasing it and there was a big line on my friends fish finder under mine so maybe got lucky and dodged taxes this time 😂
I would love to fish your waters. Pacific Ocean fishing here in Oregon is Rock Fish, Ling Cod, Salmon, maybe Halibut. We kayak in rough seas, sometimes 5-7 ft swell. Good catch, excellent content here. What size Avet reel?
We are super lucky to have deep water close to shore and relatively calm seas (some of the time anyway). This area in the video is especially calm most of the year except for crazy unpredictable offshore winds. PNW fishing looks super legit too. Those cold water species are super tasty. The Avet I'm using is an MX but I'd say it's barely big enough. LX would be better.
Thanks for sharing the action. Nice one! Hows them sickles, WOW! Didn't see the weight in the video, or comments. How much did this bugga come out to be?
That was an awesome catch in really favorable conditions. One of the things I think is crazy is when we fish live bait we always want one very lively, perfect looking. If this perfect bait gets chewed or dies we give up on it, we feel we are not fishing anymore. But we will fish that exact same bait cut up into chunks to catch the same fish😅.
Thanks dude! Was definitely a frustrating start to the day but thanks to my friend I had a steady supply of live bait. That big one actually ate my live bait way up on the surface. It looked like a bomb had gone off ~80 feet away and suddenly my reel started screaming. I was chumming the frozen opelu I brought though and I think that really made the difference and brought the Shibis in close.
You’re a legend Shea!!!!! That’s unreal in 50lb test!
Thanks dude! Definitely thinking of bumping to at least 60 now lol

HECK YEAH! Beast didn;t want to give up an INCH! Is that your PB?? Cheeeeeee!!
Yessah! Buggah was scrapping HARD. It's my PB now by a few lbs. Second biggest one was right from out same spot too.
Nice Catch! What does your friend use for opelu?
I'm curious too
Thanks! I pretty sure he uses home made flies for opelu. Days like that it's more about just being able to even hit the school though.

Mahalos 🤙 Was somewhere between 75 and 80. Must have not gotten into much fights and kept the pretty long fins lol
Coolest video yet, which island?🔥🔥
Mahalos 🤙 This is on the Big Island

Nice faka 👍. Guys get hard time catching on one boat and here you stay in one kayak. Right on congrats. How’s the meat since you don’t have a cooler?
Mahalos 🤙 The meat was prime. I bled it well out there then got it buried in ice back at the truck in less than an hour.
Nice work Shea that is a beauty!!!
Poke and sashimi for weeks!!!
Keep’m bent!!! }
Hey thanks man 🤙🤙🤙 The raw stuff all gone but still eating cooked ahi this week lol
Congrats.. what part of Hawaii?
Thanks! This was NW side of the Big Island.
That was a war not fishing 😂😂😂. Finally it took how long to land?
lol you ain't kidding 😂 It took something like 1:45 from hookup to gaff.
Twisted wire leader…. Sailfish?
Could be that, or even just a shibi inhaling the rig and spitting it out.
Ahis biting late this year
Yeah weird maybe cuz had those late tropical storms.
