    Hey Devon, I've been using Arjen Lucassen's old AKG C-414 B-ULS for over 10 years now and I love it very much, but it developed a sorta humming noise which comes and goes, so I started looking for a new vocal mic and ended up with a Warm Audio WA-47. Ever heard of them (dumb question, probably)? It sounds AWESOME!! My C-414's getting repaired as we speak, but I might use that mic on my acoustic guitar from now on. I don't know why, but I always loved the sound of my acoustic guitar being picked up by the C-414 B-ULS.
    Oh and here's the big deal: I'm not necessarily a fan of modeling mics, but I bought myself a small diaphragm Slate ML-2 mic, which's not even made/supposed to be used for recording vocals, but I read a story about Enya recording all of her vocals with an SD mic and I'm not an Enya fan, but her vocals always sound good, so... the idea behind this, is that I'll put the Slate ML-2 slightly above the WA-47, just to be able to have a "re-amping" option, if you know what I mean? Let's say you've just recorded the vocal of your life and are discovering it doesn't sound right for a particular song, or whatever, there's the option to use the track on which the ML-2 part was recorded (and use it dry or to put whatever Slate mic emulation on there). That WAS my intention, but you know what... I recorded a song that way and put both tracks on at the same time (Slate just dry, no mic model), blended them together and my DEAR LORD!!! :O WHAT A SOUND!!! :O The Slate's only at 55% of the WA-47 volume btw, but... Maybe a tip?
    Sorry for the book, as usual, haha.
    ps. The ML-2 did make a weird squeeling sound at places when I was singing really loud, so I put it on "dynamic" mode and BAM!! :D Problem solved and it sounded just as good. I'll stop now. lol

    Exceptional video, thank you and much appreciated. Really detailed and clear and I can say it's definitely the best I've found. For many years I've been trying to find out what it meant to get the right microphone for my voice and all I could find was word salad, unhelpful voodoo talk. This video made it all clear. BTW - As far as I know, the SM7 was the mic (Rather than the SM7b), at least for Michael Jackson's Thriller.

      Yes, the SM7 but I'm not splitting hairs here :) Thanks for the kind end encouraging words!

    12:40 Oh, I think my AKG C-414 B-ULS (gift from Arjen) does have a transformer in it, but I could be wrong. Yours looks (now WAY but) different than mine. Yours looks all shiny with the golden grille and stuff, but as far as I know, there are sooooo may different types of C-414's out there! Maybe a good topic for your next video? "The C-414 family" or whatever? ;)

      @devon-graves-studio-D  20 дней назад +1

      You are correct. The C414 B-ULS has a transformer and the TLII is transformerless. Yours is more midrange forward and mine are more mid-scooped.

      @@Wilmer778 You're welcome! By the way, the "TL" on the C-414 TLll stands for Transformer less ;)
