Grand Master Luke was correct in letting the darkness in and showing his students the darkness and what to do when facing such. Much of the students i feel would not have been tempted by the darkside regardless of what era it was. Jedi such as Pon Krell and Dooku would not have fallen, i think. If the Jedi would have done something about Master Jinn's death and had sent aid to that one planet, I think that the count would have stayed with the order. Knowing Ashla and Bogan and not being afraid of the dark and turning it's abilities against itself like Master Luke is exactly the Jedi mentality.

I actually found myself relating a lot to Mace Windu, even though he really only tapped into the dark side when he needed to reflect that power back onto his opponent, I think Luke shines in turning dark side force abilities around using his knowledge of the dark side and compassion. i think that the path to becoming a powerful Jedi would be to use Mace Windus lightsaber fighting form and Luke Skywalkers philosophy when considering the dark side and their force abilities, the combined power set would result in the ultimate form of turning your foes own power back onto them. if we got a Luke in the sequels who did just that we would have to rewrite the whole story cause there would be no Kylo Ren only Ben Solo and probably a separate sith entity who on their own might have needed to reflect Luke in some way to stand a chance against him.

  • @reedallen4613

The BEST example of this particular philosophy/approach in MODERN Star Wars history would be Jedi Master Mace Windu. Master Windu not only acknowledged the existence of the Dark Side of the Force within himself, but he actually USED the Dark Side of the Force to his ADVANTAGE while STILL remaining true to the Jedi belief.
Essentially, Master Windu USED the energy and/or emotions of the Dark Side of the Force to help him, but WITHOUT allowing the Dark Side to actually CORRUPT him. A PERFECT example of this is how during Master Windu's fight against Darth Sidious/Supreme Chancellor Palpatine it's BLATANTLY OBVIOUS that Windu is AGGRESSIVE/ANGRY, and yet Windu ALLOWS those negative Dark Side emotions to EMPOWER him WITHOUT letting them CONSUME him.
In my personal opinion, this makes Master Windu the CLOSEST thing to a 'Grey Jedi' in thousands of years (since the Era of Sith Lord/Jedi Master Revan).
But that's just my own personal opinion.

Luke on the other hand after turning to the Darkside to combat the reborn Darth Sidious and learned how his father Anakin felt when he was a Sith Lord, he accepted that the Darkside would never be destroyed. As it is part of the force, without the Darkside the Lightside wouldn't exist. He trained his new Order to use it so they can resist and master it, which would lead them to use both sides of the force and balanced themselves, just like the Je'daii Order.

The basic way to look at it is with the Greys. They channel both the light and the dark side of the force this alone points to the idea that force powers aren't light or dark in nature. It it how you channel it use it and your heart behind the action. The way Jedi of old were instructed to control their emotions so tightly leaves a void in the natural heart of their actions. This makes them weak and vulnerable to dark actions and impulses that they have been inhibiting all their lives.

Revans real name is also mentioned by kreia if you ask her 6 times about revan and his masters, and you had reunited the 4 other exiled jedi that went into hiding then kreia will give you Revans story about how he became revan and explain she was his master before she became one of his many apprentices, and then tell you about the mandalorian wars and how he changed his name to how he even came to find that mask before dawning his new name, to his downfall and after that the mini sith empire revan had built slowly started to crumble and fall apart due to infighting over leadership, then she would go on about how the new sith ended up rising from the ashes and then tell you what's going on with current events. I've always held that the biggest issue with the old jedi was their fear of the darkside, and that in a balance based philosophy nothing is inherently evil, just miss applied. EU Luke's philosophy is vary much in keeping with that. He doesn't fear the darkside, just recognizes the dangers it presents, and he doesn't treat darkside powers as inherently evil, but sees them as the product of a flawed understanding

If anything I'd say Luke took on Palpatine's philosophy of "understand the force in all it's aspects". That was the very thing that allured Vader to the dark side in the first place. Not just to save his wife, but he knew as a 100% fact the order wouldn't have such an ability at their disposal where as it would be far more likely Palpatine would. What makes Luke successful in his order would be the idea "knowledge is power" and not just limited knowledge the old one practiced. Example, Plo Kuhn was scolded because he used force lightning which was considered a "dark side only" ability but was not used as such. I guess in short this mindset of Luke was the success of everything where the old order failed to grow and mature.

He was referring to one of Luke's students who ended up going full darkside. I'm not bashing Luke's methods and ideologies, but there could have been better ways. Now imagine a holocron housing the spirit or w/e of a dead sith lord pretending to be a Jedi.

I have a fan fic character of this who instead of wielding the classic light saber has developed a force ability which turns his unarmed strikes into lethal weapons comparable to lightsabers in potency. In fact this force ability even allowed him to physically touch light sabers long enough to parry strikes, and even lets him deflect blaster bolts. In short it basically turns his body into a light saber. One draw back is that it cannot cover his entire body. The benefit is the attack are far faster than typical lightsaber strikes at the cost of decreased reach, but that is a small price to say for being able to cut durasteel with a bare hand.

I had always felt that Luke was the Jedi perfected. Whereas Obi-Wan was the ideal Jedi of the Old Republic, even he constantly struggled with certain choices, which is why he could never kill Vader. Luke embraced knowledge over ignorance, the first tenant of the Jedi Code. As that is something I personally value, I feel I would fit more in Luke's Jedi Order. Further, compassion was the key. One must allow the rage and darkness to rise from within, but then cleanse and release it through the light of compassion and love. The Old Republic Jedi had this in mind, but never fully embraced the idea as was pointed out by Anakin who had to snarkly imply he believed Jedi were encouraged to love as he defined Compassion as Unconditional Love.

... this was a very compelling video, and I agree that Luke purposefully became the master mixer of light and dark knowledge and practice. In Return of the Jedi, I often wondered how the Tatooine boy so quickly had such cool command and wisdom. Surely he must have had some training more than we had witnessed. Think of it, Obi-wan and Yoda are the only Jedi he knew and the only Jedi whose deaths, he had seen. I believe that Luke spent many days and nights training with these Force Spirits, themselves .... that's how his knowledge and wisdom and technique became so advanced so quickly. He communed in the Cosmic Force with Qui-gon, Obi-wan, and Yoda ... and then later with Anakin himself after his redemption. I would love to see this training story as the basis of some great animated flashbacks.✍💥

This would've made the new movies completely different... though Luke never really came off as this wise in the original films. That being said, this is kind of the sort of route people tend to take when reviving dead religions in modern times too- being able to see through a lot of the darker rituals & teachings of them & taking care to point out those problems to their students, introduce new teachings/ interpretations that go beyond those things & trying to instill in people exactly what kinds of values they think the original form of the religion was lacking.

George Lucas remastered the ending of Return of The Jedi to show also Anakin's force ghost giving a fierce look of pride and approval - while Yoda and Obi-Wan happily look on with approval (this is during the Ewoks celebration on Yavin).
In Extended Universe / Legends continuity, Emperor Palpatine returns and Luke terrified joins the Dark Side to learn how to destroy him (The Dark Empire series - you see the picture for one of the comic covers in this video)...
I won't spoil it for you. I suggest you enjoy that graphic novel for yourself. No force ghosts come to the new generations aid.
