He was supposed to be the times original drummer. He played drums on the first album. Prince played the rest of the instruments. Alexander O'neal was supposed to be the lead singer. That is Jellybean on the guitar!!!
Jellybean Johnson can play not only the Guitar but other instruments as well, keyboards and bass ,etc. He's a record Producer too, Janet Jackson " Black Cat!

Bobby played drums....Morris was a front man....Bobby rehearsed, practiced, incorporated electronics with live drums, etc. Morris wore that jacket and did his stage thing.

Morris played drums on all of the the Time 1st 2 albums and Prince added some drum machine tracks with Morris playing & Prince on everything else...and the 3rd album the "Ice Cream Castle" album is mostly a Jesse Johnson album with Morris vocal & some drums, Prince co-wrote & played keyboards with Jesse and Prince played No guitars on that album & Jellybean played drums on "The Bird" with the new members live...Morris originally supposed to play in Prince's band with Andre, Dez, Gayle & Matt but he chose Bobby Z because he like his looks... and I think to with Morris & Andre together, it would have been too difficult & hard to control them because they were some real Black bad asses young men....like thugs, getting into trouble kicking Prince little ass and shit !....

@@pocket1684 Well as a 30+ professional pro player, a musicians 'chops' is his/her unique 'speaking.' Some ppl speak more affluent/proper/prolific than others yet we understand what they are saying. So, to the untrained ear, yeah, all drummers sounds similar.
That's how he ended up becoming an official member of the Time. He started as their valet handling their instruments offstage and when he became the mirror guy that's when he became a member(or "stage prop").

What I meant by my statement was I don’t like the fact that they think they can throw any bald headed dude up there with a mirror and treat the part Jerome serves with Morris and the Time like a stage prop. Never would disrespect OG Jerome, just the clone.
I've enjoyed the time of The Time but Morris Day's artificial public persona is not my cup of tea. His drumming here seems lame to me too and the mirror thingy is funny but not funny here.
