That "best drum solo ever" itself shows what an insanely talented musician Dannie was. It just strikes most listeners (even a lot of musicians) as sloppy or "bizarre" at first because he's syncopating and accenting around the beat so much that it initially sounds random to anyone without a seriously steady internal clock. But if you keep counting at the tempo the band's playing when the clip starts (or set a metronome if you can't), you'll see that he never loses his place. He brings the band right back in on the one. That solo is an act of rhythmical genius.

That drum solo is honestly one of the most brilliant solos I've heard from that era and is a testament to Richmond's personality and artistry
