Dude we're 10 weeks away from the end of school and we've had no drills or practices and I live in a town where shootings happen at least once a week -_-
I'm sorry, but the standard lockdown response in the event of a school intruder is no longer effective. When students and staff lockdown and hide in classrooms, they are essentially sitting ducks. This is why schools are moving to programs like ALICE. Clear communication is essential, and students and teachers in areas away from the intruder must escape. This completely removes them from the dangerous situation. Of course, those near the intruder would barricade their doors and be prepared to counter if necessary. For the safety of the young students, please consider moving away from the old fashioned lockdown procedures in the event of an intruder. If the threat is outside of the school facility, then absolutely hold and secure by locking the doors and letting operations continue. But once the intruder has entered the building, get the students out.
The problem remains, you do not know where the intruder is and how many there are. If students evacuate they may be running into more intruders or danger.
I'm sorry but if there was a real shooting in the school. Those classroom with windows... They should allow the kids to climb out. They're a lot more safe by doing that. Well if the classrooms are on the bottom floor they are. Not the upstairs ones.
This is an important question and why we stress moving as quickly as possible to a room- run to the bathroom or somewhere that your body can be as out of sight as possible. If you are already outside, we tell our students to run away- run somewhere near and safe, like a store or house of a friend. Your safety is the most important thing.
Locker rooms are typically very safe and out of the way if you are in PE. If you are outside and there is a shooter inside, we tell our students to run- run to safety if you can tell where the shooting is coming from. Same with a dance- you need to go where you know you will be safe.
+Alli Hancock my class is always loud and they talk and laugh about real lock downs when I'm am there telling them all too shut up and once we had a real lockdown and I was crying because is as worried about my family and people were laughing and screaming. my school is crap compared to others
Many classes are in a portable, as is mine, and you will simply lock the doors, pull down the blinds, turn out the lights- do everything you would in a regular school building, remain silent, and wait for the lockdown to be lifted.
We had a 2 hour situation just today actually. The kids in the portables took all the normal procedures, but since it was a condition one, we were allowed to switch between the classes, but they needed an escort by staff.
An intruder won't waste time trying to find people, but target the people who are exposed. If there is more than one intruder, they likely won't bother with a classroom they can't see inside so it's just one way to help limit casualties. None of this is preventative, just measures to help keep people as safe as possible.
my school in canada OKAY WE WILL NEVER SAY WHEN THIER IS A LOCKDOWN ONLY TEACHERS WILL KNOW AND WE will only tell students what to do if they ask before hand
Wait.... why would you build a barricade? Like..the intruder would see it...and *know* there are people in there! Then try to get in. We normally just lock the door and stuff ourselves in lockers.
If there is a bomb during a lockdown, students will likely evacuate the building. This would be unprecedented, but essentially, students should move to safety as quickly as possible. Hopefully law enforcement would be on the scene, but if you were near an effected area, you would want to run, if it was detonated further from where you are, you may want to stay put. This would be a great question for your Principal.
Is it safe to when and if the shooter find you is it safe to being defending yourself? If so, we know how to put down a male but what if it were a female?
You never know how many shooters/dangers are out there, and if kids are all heading outside, they may be even bigger targets. Better to keep them spaced out in classrooms than hundreds of kids like sitting ducks on the field.
A red or green sheet hangs in our classrooms so police outside can see if someone in a room is in immediate danger or hurt or missing. This is used in the event of a lengthy lockdown and helps them decide which rooms to potentially enter first.
If your doors don't lock, barricades can be effective. Intruders are trying to be fast, so if there is any block in a path, they will likely turn around and try a different route- meaning it is a 'mental' block for them, because obviously they could push it down, but in their mind, they want to find the fastest, easiest way to people.
You shouldn't lockdown during a bomb threat you should leave
If there is a bomb threat- an evacuation would occur. But this video addresses a live, human threat, such as a shooter or person with a weapon.
Dude we're 10 weeks away from the end of school and we've had no drills or practices and I live in a town where shootings happen at least once a week -_-
Make it happen. Go see your Principal and teachers, take your safety into your own hands. Students must advocate for themselves- you can do this!

If there are shooters outside, it would be unsafe to exit through a window.
Alli Hancock i think it should be safer with an experienced police officer in the front office with a gun
This makes me realize my school has a really crappy lockdown drill.
Please share this video with the Principal at your school!
What if you are looking for a classroom but they are all already locked?
This is an important question and why we stress moving as quickly as possible to a room- run to the bathroom or somewhere that your body can be as out of sight as possible. What if your doing Dance or PE?

🔇there should be no talking
Absolutely, silence is incredibly important!

What happens if your class room is a portable
Many classes are in a portable, as is mine, and you will simply lock the doors, pull down the blinds, turn out the lights- do everything you would in a regular school building, remain silent, and wait for the lockdown to be lifted.

I would protect my class if it came it the fighting part
Good!
wouldn't having cloth over the windows and the blinds closed tell the intruders that there are people in there??
An intruder won't waste time trying to find people, but target the people who are exposed. If there is more than one intruder, they likely won't bother with a classroom they can't see inside so it's just one way to help limit casualties. None of this is preventative, just measures to help keep people as safe as possible.
We can lock my classroom from inside
Reese Scoville My classroom is outside sooooo
my school in canada OKAY WE WILL NEVER SAY WHEN THIER IS A LOCKDOWN ONLY TEACHERS WILL KNOW AND WE will only tell students what to do if they ask before hand
I would explain to your teachers, respectfully, that if students aren't empowered to help, they will be more likely to get hurt.
Wait.... why would you build a barricade?
Like..the intruder would see it...and *know* there are people in there!
Then try to get in. We normally just lock the door and stuff ourselves in lockers.
A barricade is used if the door does not lock- intruders will likely not take the time to knock something down unless looking for a specific person.
what if they a bomb and a lockdown how will we go out
If there is a bomb during a lockdown, students will likely evacuate the building. This would be unprecedented, but essentially, students should move to safety as quickly as possible. Hopefully law enforcement would be on the scene, but if you were near an effected area, you would want to run, if it was detonated further from where you are, you may want to stay put. Is it safe to when and if the shooter find you is it safe to being defending yourself? If so, we know how to put down a male but what if it were a female?
Absolutely! Throw anything and everything you can at the person if they are endangering others- male or female. Equal rights.
What happens if you're outside
If you can tell the intruder/shooter is inside, run to safety. Whether a nearby school or church, store, friends house, get to where you will be safe!
Ok so none of my classmates will see this so I'll just be telling them what to do
Good! Share it with your Principal, and your school!
Why cant you pull the fire alarm? ??
You never know how many shooters/dangers are out there, and if kids are all heading outside, they may be even bigger targets. Better to keep them spaced out in classrooms than hundreds of kids like sitting ducks on the field.
what does the green/red sheet mean? i don't have that in my school.
A red or green sheet hangs in our classrooms so police outside can see if someone in a room is in immediate danger or hurt or missing. This is used in the event of a lengthy lockdown and helps them decide which rooms to potentially enter first.
watchu mean barricade mentally
If your doors don't lock, barricades can be effective. Intruders are trying to be fast, so if there is any block in a path, they will likely turn around and try a different route- meaning it is a 'mental' block for them, because obviously they could push it down, but in their mind, they want to find the fastest, easiest way to people.
what is ISIS attacks? then what happens...??
Then run...
