+Colin G Well... despite there being 160 shooters all over the US, the odds are still much greater of your kid being raped, getting struck by an epidemic or hit by a car than it getting in an active shooting incident. When I was in middle school, we had an unannounced ‘intruder drill’ too- our principal went on the intercom and gave a distinct location of where the ‘shooter’, what gun they said and what they were wearing. The police would bang stuff against the walls to sound like bullets and it was the worst feeling hearing them slowly march on down the corridor. The classroom I was in was relatively close to the said location and we had to run. I remember everything I felt, I was so so nervous and people were having panic attacks, tripping and shoving each other trying to make it down the hallway, and I remember my friend who was in crunches at the time falling mid hallway in the sudden rush hour and I cried so hard once we were all outside. We ran so far, about a block and a half down. Everyone was uncontrollably sobbing. I mean, we were just 11 - 13 year olds. It lasted 30 minutes before we were all sent back to our classrooms and the day just went by as normal, but god, I will never forget the rawness I felt and the adrenaline I shouldn’t have had to survive. At my school all were told to do is turn off the lights sit in a corner and close the door, how's that gonna help? Shooter: Oh it's 11am on a Tuesday, the parking lots full, but the door is closed. Guess it's empty.
I've had to run from what we thought was a school shooter. Turns out a student pulled a prank by calling the police, telling them another student was shooting up the school. The only thing that was going through my head was "I'm going to get shot in the back" I was fully expecting the pain as I ran out the school doors, through the field, and into the neighborhood across the street.
It's done that way because a shooter wants quick targets and does not have time to guess if there are potential victims in the room. Realistically, school shootings like this only last about 5-10 minutes before the police arrive.
i was 12 years old when sandyhook happened and 17 when parkland happened. i have a younger sibling by 2 years. the 2 years i was in high school with her were the most stressful because i had to worry about more than just myself. i dont think people who graduated out of k-12 before 2014ish realize how real this is for many of us. it could be any regular day at school and i'd constantly be looking for an exit plan. always thinking "what would you do in this very moment if...". i memorized my sibling's schedule so that i always knew where they should be in case something went down. even now, i still have this part of my brain always thinking about the best escape route/form of defense every time im anywhere. i'm jealous of some of the people who got to grow up before this was a regular occurrence, especially before columbine. y'all wonder why gen z is so fucking anxious and depressed, but we have a reason to be. even when u know it's a drill, it's still really scary (some people act cool, but tbh i think it's just them trying to not think about how theyre actually feeling). these drills are extremely important. those shooters are gonna come 1 way or another, you might as well prepare them for it in case it happens to them.
George Bailey My parents said I should tell everyone to help me do that. But since it's a ghetto school they probably leave it to my self to do.... in that case I'll fucking jump out the window.
This happened at my school, Freshman year girls P.E the police department didn’t even talk with our school about it, they sent a deputy in undercover a Science teacher noticed the gun and told kids to run to a classroom started grabbing kids shoving them inside his classroom, our vice principal came over the intercom in panic, we hid in a bathroom for at lest 1 hour, if it was real, My science teacher deserves a metal or something, He was brave to call it out, and start grabbing kids. The trauma from that day, still lingers, kids can’t have headphones in the hallway and all teachers must stand outside there classrooms to watch.
I've had a lockdown, people said they got firearms and bombs and stuff. I think the sad part is some kids were shaking and stuff and others were having fun. The best part was the teacher. She was so calm and kept a lot of the other kids calm. She was working and eating. We heard a couple loud booms right outside our window. Then we had to sit on the floor. It lasted like an hour or so. I'm glad it wasn't anything serious.
yeah we had one in elementary school in grade 3 or 4 right after the sandyhook shooting and we were hiding in a closet and the girls in my class started to scream when someone started to bang on the door and try to open it and all the boys were barely even phased but the teacher was terrified as well
@@JM-zl3ll Yeah most of the boys in my classroom were on their phones making jokes about how someone was probably going to come into the room and shoot us up.
I had a couple of these in high school, it’s sad we have to do these now. I remember we had to put all of our desk in front of the door and turn off lights and be quiet. And I also remember my first week of my senior year, I was walking to the bathroom when one of the teachers yelled to go inside. I was so confused, so I rushed back to my class, and my teacher said someone was going to shoot up the school. He made all of us go into the closet and bruh we were all there for like 2 hours and it end up being some stupid ass kid from the middle school (it’s next to us) who didn’t want to take a test so he did a prank, but like wtf, everyone was freaking out cause we thought there was a shooter on the campus or at the middle school, people were crying, the police came it was a big mess. But like I’m so glad it wasn’t real 🙏🏼
Everyone during a lock down drill: *giggling, chit chatting with friends* That one time we actually thought Our school was about to get shot up: *screaming, running into classrooms, crying, anxiety attacks, people I didn’t like hugging me and telling me they’re sorry for everything they’ve ever done*
One time someone in my class was either lying to get ouf of school or there eyes were playing tricks on them and they said they say a man in a red jacket (or black i forgot) came in with a gun. Some people thought it was real (and it was a year ago but i was just being dumb) i said that i would throw crayons in there mouth. 😒 really
As a parent of a high schooler, and elementary😭😭😢pain’s me to death, that our kids are not safe anymore, and feel so much gratitude for the school stuff and police that risk their life to save the students god blessed all of you🙏🙏..
I’m a school teacher and last month they did an unannounced lockdown and my heart sank and I shook as I was hiding the kids under the tables and telling them to be quiet. Someone came to shake the door and I signaled them to be quiet. When the principal said it was just a drill I went into the closet and bursted our crying without the kids seeing me. This is not why I went into teaching, the government need to change their laws instead of training us how not to die.
I'm sorry you got upset, it is a scary reality, but let's be real, you need to know this stuff. It's important, no matter how scary. Also, knowing how to not die is very much a useful skill. Maybe you should get a ccw or train with a firearm.
I live in Greece,I am Greek, and I find it so upsetting, and sad,to the point that it makes me cry sometimes when I see these types of videos, that this type of situation is so normalized, that a kid goes to school and may live in fear that their life one day may in be in danger, where they are supposed to feel, and be safe...💔
a very vast majority of our terrorism comes from other country so yes. it is sad. sad that we have to suffer either because of some nonborn American or some piece of shit bully. although in most schools it's either a bully shooting...a depressed child or some druggy
I think it’s actually really cool that they are teaching the teachers self defense. Without any knowledge it’s very hard to feel confident you can protect your students from an active shooter. I know some people don’t agree with the active shooter drills, but I think they are a great way to prepare teachers and students for if it were to really happen. ❤ Stay safe everyone ❤
It was really actually awesome watching Holly do that. And for some reason brought tears to my eyes. Probably because I know what she already went through once.
So how are illegal guns sold? Where do they come from? Oh yeah, people who illegally sell guns just get them from no where. They're made in a factory too, like legal guns. Stop all gun manufacturing period.
I think we should go even harsher, but make sure the kid and the parents know what’s going on and what to expect. If a kid or parent doesn’t want to go through with it don’t make them.
There was a threat to my school once. It was an online non specific threat so we weren’t in any danger but we all thought it was really happening. My and my sisters ran into a classroom during lunch time. We went into the corner of the room on the floor. We had our backpacks in front of us and were freaking out. The teacher and students were complete idiots. She said “Ok we don’t know what’s going on but you can keep talking and eating lunch. Everyone was moving and making noise. Me and my sisters didn’t stop hiding until near the end when 1) we finally got information and 2) we heard no gunshots. During the whole thing I was texting my mom and I freaked out my dad. I was holding a chair to throw. (In hindsight I would have been too scared to). Basically if a shooter was actually in my school, I most likely would have been dead.
Well at our school someone always finds out about our lockdown drills, kids will just sit there laughing and making a joke of it, maybe this will teach kids the seriousness.
A bit ago this girl next to me told me a shooting was happening at my sister's school, where her sister also goes. I had a panic attack at one point and could not focus. Midway through she told me it was just some middle schoolers on snapchat speculating about a lock out (which was not a shooting at all, just a minor incident). I will never forget the fear I felt in that hour and how long it felt.
My son come home the other day saying "mom, if I come home early out of breath is because there was a shooter in my school" what? My son, and any school age child should not have to worry about this kind of thing, instead they should feel safe
About 2 days ago I had a lockdown drill in between classes, and thats the 2nd time ever that my school has ever had one between classes as they are usually like the standard ones which are during class. They only started doing that because of how frequent these shootings are becoming, which is honestly very sad knowing thats the reason. Its honestly scary though having these drills between classes because most students in my school all hangout in the lobby between classes which makes it very loud and hard to hear the intercom. So when they did it I never heard them say it and all of a sudden I saw students running into classrooms and teachers yelling at us to get inside. This literally terrified me and my friends because we had no idea if it was a drill (which it was) or if it was real. I know its not as terrifying as some of these other school drills but Its still just the fact that us students in America even have to do these kinds of drills so frequently.
You shut the lights off, be silent, and lock the door, like really? The shooter went to school too, and they aren't dumb enough to think "oh no one must be here lets go to another school, oh look same thing, weird" 🙄
There are classrooms that are indeed empty while school is in session. So the goal is to look like one of those classrooms. My art teacher makes us take our bags and supplies with us just to make it seem like it's an empty period.
Uts better than my high school a few years back. They said "Washington is in the building". My teacher had no idea what the hell they were talking about. Our door remained opened, the teens remained loud and cheerful, I decided to ditch class with a friend and happily roamed the hallway.... needless to say we spent the morning after in a "town hall meeting" about how shitty we did 😂😂😂.
Unanounced drills are bad. Its like the boy who cries wolf. Now instead of being scared and acting as you should during this situation they will start giggling and talking thinking its a drill
Also the way the were teaching the teachers to disarm/subdue is not perfect. Not only should you do that you should also bite kick punch grab pinch ect. Altho i don't think they would practise that on a live human being
Turtle Game Guy! in my school they just say " Teachers and students please pardon this interruption. At this time we are conducting a code yellow/red drill." So we know
there is a fine line between a drill and traumatizing kids. this is traumatizing. the school i go to, our lockdown drills are way less intense than this.
princess deva 7 That’s not the point. When the someone comes into a school to kill, their goal is to kill as many people as possible in the smallest amount of time. They know they are hiding, but if the door is locked and they kids are hiding they are harder to get to. They continue on to find people who are out in the open.
princess deva 7 their plan is to harm as much students before the cops come, therefore they won’t spend time trying to open locked classroom doors. But they’ll be looking for the students in an open area.
If you’re living somewhere like America where COVID-19 rates are DEVASTATINGLY HIGH, that’s a damn good point! Screw worrying about school shooters when you can be forced to go back to school which doesn’t require people to keep to social distancing laws and mask wearing and have an even HIGHER chance of dying/coming close to dying!
At my school they tell us when we have drills so that we don’t huddle into a corner and we just sit at our desks. But we know it’s not a drill if they don’t tell the teachers it’s a drill. Then that is when we huddle up in a corner.
It's nice to see that the teachers are willing to fight for the children. But it's sad that our planet/country has come to this decision. It's just really sad.
As someone who has been recommended by teachers, friends, and family members, as well as having personal motivation and joy from teaching others, the frequency and terror of school shootings is more of a deterrent for me now than the poor pay. Teachers, and students are being asked way too much of in this way. Gun laws and gun safety needs to be better at protecting us. We are not responsible for taking down active shooters. Over-prepping can also lead to over-confidence and certain things happening that lead to more dead. The answer is not to prep, the answer is to prevent. #GunReform
PFFFT XDDDd- I once wa sthrough a lockdown drill, they just walked through, grabbed the doorknob calmly, shook it lightly. then left. It wasn’t even scary since they said “don’t freak out it’s the principle” But- that makes us feel safe and know there is no danger- when it happens- WE KNOW THAT WE MAY DIE- ;-;
So I’m seeing some comments here saying there’s no way that teacher would be able to pull that move off irl. Listen, I trained in martial arts for 10 years and yes she could. I practiced moves like that disarming technique all the time against people bigger than me and against people smaller than me. As long as you know what to do and put in the effort, the person defending will usually win. Moves like that are meant to take your opponent’s weight and use it against them. It makes it so that anyone, no matter their size can pull it off. It’s not necessarily about brute strength. It’s about technique. Plus you can clearly see that both the teacher’s and the trainer’s faces are red. They are both fighting like hell, and the teacher wins. Because she grabs his arm, brings herself to the ground, and doesn’t let go. That’s using his weight against him. He’s not just fighting her weight, but his own on top of that.
I remember when in my high school when it wasn't a drill. The school was put on lockdown due to sightings of a couple of armed kids roaming the halls. It turned out to be props later on but we didn't know that at the time. We were a school with magnet programs, essentially a separate school focused on various fields for those unfamiliar, and had prospective students and parents in on tour at the time. It was brutal for them, but oddly, there was a weird calm that fall over me and, from what I heard, most of the other students. While I'm not sure about the main school classes, we had begun to arm ourselves and prepare escape plans if the rooms had access to the outside. I know I was prepared to die that day, and I know at least a few other shared that sentiment before the lockdown was lifted. Apparently we made a good impression on the people visiting with how we were managing, one room even had a baby that the class helped keep quiet. But after that, business as usual. Oddly enough, after the threat passed we mostly continued on with our day, though most parents opted to take their kids out of school for the day. It's weird now thinking back on it. But I guess this goes to show just how normalized it is nowadays. I never really think I feel truly safe, there's always a chance that something could come up and blindside you anywhere. I can't really even think about it as sad anymore, it's just part of life. Knowing your exits, having some idea of where to run, and what might make a good makeshift weapon seems kinda second nature at this point. Even in college I feel no different.
spooky jim christmas Same but in first grade when they started wiggling door knobs it looked like we were penguins like we were atop of each other and crying like retards XD
If the door is locked, most people won't bother breaking it down. If they can't see you, they probably won't shoot you. There is a difference between concealment and cover, and often they are equally good at keeping you from getting shot.
Jmyster4 ummm idk about you but if I was a shooter I'd just kick down the door/shoot the lock off. It's not hard to kick down a door. It's like 12 in the after noon and the lights are all off? Lol please I know there's kids present. If they are hiding in the corner all bunched up they would be easy to fire at. I think it's better that kids are trained so they might actually have a slight chance of survival
Dylan Dietz IKR, AT MY OLD SCHOOL ALL WE DID WAS LOCK THE DOOR AND SIT AT OUR DESKS, ONE TIME OUR TEACHER LET US WATCH A MOVIE DURING THE LOCK DOWN DRILL
Dylan Dietz It keeps you out of view, ergo, avoids making you a target. A shooter is a lot less likely to successfully shoot someone that he can't even find. And they probably won't waste time trying to break down a door if they can't see potential targets inside.
I had something similar, but it was for an earthquake drill. Me and many others volunteered to act as the injured. One of my friends even got to act as a dead person, apparently their little sign said a fish tank fell on their head or something-
I know but what if their like “Thank god that that annoying kid is dead” once they gaze upon your body? Ive always had that fear that once I’m dead, people will simply be more relieved than horrified and sad.
We had a lockdown in high school last year, and I wasn’t too bothered, just thought it was a drill. That is, until my teacher started Barricading the door with tables, chairs, and back packs. That was when I knew it wasn’t a drill and the feeling of dread hit me like a ton of bricks. He told us that if we heard something to jump out the window and run to the shed across from the back of the school. It was almost 2 1/2 hours long. Then a student got a video of a class in the front of the building screaming and crying. Apparently, the kid who threatened to do it on social media didn’t actually do it, but we went into lockdown as soon as we learned of the threat. It is really scary knowing that could be your last day on the planet and you never got to do the things you wanted to do or say the things you wanted to say. I told my friend about it and she told the counselors because she thought I was going to die and their school went into lockdown as well. People are so messed up.
Whenever my school had a lockdown drill.... in my fourth grade class, my classmates would always whisper to each other, giggle, purposely loudly cough, and purposely loudly sniff and I was angry thinking how this would be in real life.
Ash Franco I know! When I was in fourth grade, they would all whisper and giggle and I would always whisper at them to stop talking and then they would just shush me. It’s so annoying!
My homeroom teacher in High School for 11th and 12th grade (she's also the history teacher), was once in the army, and, in case of a real intruder, if anyone starts audibly crying, laughing, or otherwise making noises that could alert our location, to knock out or shut up any students making noise because the last thing you want is someone crying and the intruder finding you because of it. We were told to always keep our composure, create a desk barricade, and grab something to use as a weapon, like scissors, text books, even pens and pencils. If it could be thrown, that was better, but anything was better than nothing. In her class, we took it seriously.
As a gen Z I remember doing these when I was younger and there were always fits of giggles at the awkwardness of it. Now we were are old enough to understand and the atmosphere in the room becomes so thick now you can cut it with a knife during shooter drills. I can’t imagine what it was like for the teachers to hear a bunch of innocent second graders giggling not knowing what is happening.
Honestly, I agree with this, the more drills you do unplanned, the more the students will be used to it, they will be more calm when it’s real and won’t be freaking out and which will make them kill them if they are loud.
literally most school shooters have practiced drills like this in school. the routine has not changed at all. the school shooter knows exactly what to do. There should be a new and improvised plan because everyone knows that the kids are behind the desk
the hiding behind the desk thing isnt really to try to have the shooter not see you, it is supposed to keep the shooter away because the shooter would want to move fast to not get caught so if students were behind a desk then it would take longer for the shooter to get to them which might make the shooter just leave that classroom if that makes sense.
Several years ago a school shooting occurred at the high school I attended. Except this shooting was done by the school resource officer (also a local police officer) who shot and killed a deranged man who entered the school, following a student who was late getting there. The school immediately went into lock down and the resource officer confronted the man who was armed with guns and intent on using them, in the hallway. She tried at first to diffuse the situation but when she was unable to do so she shot & killed him before he could endanger anyone else. The school was Sullivan Central High School in Blountville, TN. The officers name is Carolyn Gudger, and in my hometown she is a hero. She is the perfect example of what a school resource officer should be. A courageous woman who did her job, putting her life on the line for the students/faculty she was hired to protect. I was very disappointed that there was not a lot of media attention surrounding this incident, except for locally of course. I just really wanted people to see what a difference having a well trained, courageous police officer who takes their promise to protect and serve seriously on campus can make in these situations. I share this story so that the world will learn about this hero that is among us by the name of Carolyn Gudger

Even though school shootings are really scary, everyone needs to remain calm, as being scared will not solve anything.

#GunReform

I don't understand how siting behind a desk can help you survive a school shooting
BloodthirstyPikachu I agree but my all my teachers have us sitting a desks
Dylan Dietz It keeps you out of view, ergo, avoids making you a target. A shooter is a lot less likely to successfully shoot someone that he can't even find. And they probably won't waste time trying to break down a door if they can't see potential targets inside.
I’ve been asked to volunteer as a “dead person” for one of my school lockdowns. It truly terrifying.
I had something similar, but it was for an earthquake drill. Me and many others volunteered to act as the injured. One of my friends even got to act as a dead person, apparently their little sign said a fish tank fell on their head or something-

Its upsetting kids have to go thru this man. Im glad im outta school man im nervous to have kids because of this man.
Ash Franco like would they be laughing or giggling if it was REAL?!
Ash Franco SAME FOR ME!!!
Same in forth grade a boy got suspended for yelling "DEEZ NUTZ" and i thought that was sooooo immature.
*Hear gunshots and screaming*
All of a sudden a noise starts to get closer and closer to you
"ALL THE OTHER KIDS WITH THE PUMPED UP KICKS!"
ah man, I've known that song since it came out and I still love it
As a gen Z I remember doing these when I was younger and there were always fits of giggles at the awkwardness of it.
But the shooter could just shoot up the desk
