So I used to produce r&b back in the 90’s and 2000’s. Now I’m trying to make beats my side hustle. Way too many sources for info. But I keep coming back to your videos! I’ve learned a ton and have determined that you are a table and a template. Keep educating me bro!
TBH, his explanation of swing was inaccurate. Swing isn't about playing off the grid. And simply shifting hihats and snares makes it sound more like the drums were badly played than the live feel of a really good drummer. I find that 50% or more of lo-fi drums sounds like it was played by a 5 year old. And I'm not trolling. This is fr how it sounds, lol.
Of all the "how to lofi drums" this is the real deal. It's not about "oh look here are 10 loops try them out" - this video ACTUALLY explains fundamental differences and aspects between lofi and other /general genres. ESPECIALLY that swing aspect is an eye opener since I'm just a filthy casual guitarist and singer :D. Creating drums for my lofi stuff has always felt like a battle. This video is really helpful af! 10/10 would recommend :D
The best answer to all the music production is: "SIMPLICITY". After many years doing beats and recording people I've realized that this is the key to everything 🔥🔥🔥🔥
I've been watching you for years, L. Dre, and I've gotta say, your style is unlike any other lofi producer. Super unique, chill, and groovy. Here's to a great 2022 man!🔥🔥
a bit more about swing from a theory perspective - move anything that hits on an 8th note to the right by an 8th note triplet, this is bcs swing basically just means the first 8th note is longer than the second and usually its by 66%, which is known as triplet swing
a cool trick i have found is the slice to new midi feature in ableton.. i basically slice a drum loop to it transients, and then it turns it into midi.. then i add a lofi drum kit onto the midi pattern , i get some really interesting kick and snare patterns , this helps me when im in beat block..
great tips as always! Loved the tip about not overdoing the kicks. I always look at it as the less often the kicks are there, the more of an impact they will have when they do hit 🔥
Super useful video as always, and the most important thing is that you show tips using very simple things (like moving the one-shots by hand) and not with complicated DAW features. Great work. 🔥
Straight up - it is so helpful just to go back to the basics like this, even if you have been making music for years. I also really needed to hear the part at 7:06. I'm so guilty of wanting to do everything from foley, to piano, to drums from scratch. Even a tiny snippet of a loop can help launch the creative process. ✌
This is really really an amazing video to start this great year off with! So many gems to make our beats hitting this year 💪 I listen to Ldre almost every day on Spotify, and I really also listen to other Lofi beat artists but I always fall back to Ldre because his beats are always just really unique and satisfying! No matter how much I listen to them. Ldre for real is the GOAT 🔥 I wish I could buy all your sample packs🔥
Yo you inspire me in so many ways and have helped me not to give up on my dreams, and myself.. Big up to you my man. Gonna buy that vol. 3 kit, sound fire 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
The biggest thing I took away was not to be against sampling, because If you think about it most the sounds producers use are from SAMPLE packs. But good vid sir 🔥

The part about textures!! 🙌🏽🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Simple. Concise. We love that about L.Dre. When we ask a question we get an answer. 🔥 Great way to start off the new year
Great stuff!! Fire fire fire!! 🔥🔥🔥
Yup, simple and concise instructions leave a lot of room for the student/producer to bring their own individuality to each track.
Video is short but full of gems! Thanks! 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Lofi Guys OG beat 👌🔥 Great tips L.Dre
I can't believe I've spent this much time on Ableton and didn't know about the little Delay button. Lots of good tips in here 🔥🔥

I love listening to your beats when drawing in art class 🔥🔥🔥
Perfect explanation for the swing. Upcoming producers bring back the feeling to the music to not sound so robotic 🔥🔥🔥

Perfect timing. I’ve been trying to improve my drums lately. I’ve relied on loops too much in the past

U are very appreciated L.Dre!!! 🔥🔥🔥
Loving the swing sauce 🔥
I don't understand why some people like the "swing sauce" (as you put it, lol). To me it sounds like bad playing. 🤷♂️
