Yup, I hear people say, "We are saved by grace through faith but faith means confess, get baptized, tell others, and have no major sins in your life." If you want those things, just say it.

Too much faith+works being preached. Should we have works? Yes. But do works save you? No!

Yes. To remind myself how horrible legalism is, I listen to Doug Wilson. He keeps me dependent on Christ in prayer, because my grandchildren are being raised on his preaching.

If we are truly trusting clinging to Christ and His promises why? Why when we or others notice our falling short of the mark, are first actions of little faith is not to cry out to Christ but to cry foul .Christ waits eagerly in expectation of our prayers, a prayer to be like Jesus? Is this our prayer to be like Christ? Or are we too easily satisfied with the status quote? We have not because we asked not, we are to easily satisfied in our Christian walk, are satisfaction should be found in Christ, lets face it, it’s our reluctant heart that leads us away from what will truly satisfy. God gives Grace in abundance but we are far from receiving all that the Father would give. Do we come with empty hands? Every day? This is where we stubbornly fall back, falling to see our need. It will be your ability to see your weakness that will be your strength. Asking God in faith to show you your need is to humble yourself, a humble heart is a heart ready to truly receive and to find its satisfaction in Christ..

Everyone has their own path in life. The difficulties in life makes us uncomfortable, but the fact is the discomfort is where you grow most as human being. It's how much discomfort you're able to take at moments in life. If you can't take it. take a step back to grow and come back to the step take that step forward in the miss step. Take the right steps if you're feeling brave... take that extra step.

Christians who are truly reformed are worlds apart from those who are not reformed but merely Calvinistic. I belong to the latter. I need to become the former.

    Does obedience save you?
    Consider this.
If we say that “Faith is what saves us, not works”
I would ask. What is Faith?
I have Faith that the sun will come up today.
I have Faith that my spouse will not leave me.
I have Faith in Jesus Christ.
If you replace “Faith” with “Trust” have you changed the meaning at all? Isn’t that what we do when we say the sinners prayer? We ask Jesus to be our Lord and Savior. Aren’t we saying “we trust you Lord”?
So what does it mean to trust Jesus?
Can we say we Trust if we are simultaneously drawing our value and purpose in the world from sex, fame, fortune, career, spouse, etc?
Can we say we Trust if we are not being obedient to Him?
Can we say we Trust if we do not honor Him in all aspects of our lives?
Can we say we Trust if we not waking up every day to “take up our cross daily”? Which can mean to recommit ourselves to the covenant that Jesus made with us?
In other words, give me an example of a “work” that we can avoid and still show our Trust in Him.

You're missing the point. You keep saying, "How obedient have I been? How righteous have I been?" Thats the wrong way to say it. The correct phrasing is, "How obedient have I been TO YOU, FATHER? How righteous have I been FOR YOU, FATHER."
Piety and living righteous is futile in itself, but when it focuses on God, and pleasing Him with your life, it is wonderful, beautiful, and are the marks of a true Christian.

I think you missed his point as well, he's talking about people abandoning grace and resorting to merit or works.

@@PatrickSteil Can we have faith and disobey? Yes. Should we disobey? No. If one claims to trust in Jesus and then points to their works, are they trusting in Jesus, is that trusting in Him? If their works are their righteousness, what need is there for salvation? (Obviously no works of any human, except Jesus Christ, are acceptable) There is a difference between salvation and service. This is why we see verses that state when we believe in Jesus Christ we have everlasting life. This is why we see verses stating not to trust in our works or the law. If anyone says they have no sin, the truth is not in him. I see many preachers preaching the law, instead of salvation by grace, instead of the grace and truth that come from Jesus Christ. Without this, we have no capacity to turn from sin and obey God. The Lord loves those who he chastens. If an unsaved individual is hearing that they must turn from all their sin to be saved, that is works. They need to believe on Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of their sins, and then they can understand their place with God, and with the help of the Holy Spirit, live a life where they present their bodies a living sacrifice which is reasonable service.
