I spent years trying to figure out The Rover, there was no internet in my day. I figured it out. In doing so, I learned patterns that worked, pull offs, hammer ons, slides and perhaps my own identity because I incorporate all those things in my playing. Just this week, I showed a fellow player the power of harmonics, on the fifth, seventh twelveth fret, you get the picture, another trick I stole and now own. I recommend going outside the box. A million kids now play Highway Star but how many have tried Halo Of Flies, nobody is gonna show you that, well I haven't checked, but learning by ear will help you in the long run. Not saying to not take lessons because I wish I could have, but developing an ear is pretty important.
