@@mantkle deepwoken just, unfortunately, doesn't have a big enough focus on story to do anything other than books. i think the main problem is the playerbase though, the pvp community are a loud minority, but they are a LOOUUUD minority, when there's a poll the PvE stuff wins, but for basically anything else, like any discussion, the PvP community seems to be the biggest part. if they added this quest for the dormant splinter as a sort of story line where the story was told in an actually interesting way that makes you think, the deepwoken players trying to get the new weapon and leave with it before it gets nerfed the next week would be complaining that they have to sit through story, the game has been incredibly toned down in terms of it's world and lore, to the point where we don't even get to buy things organically anymore, instead every piece of training equipment is in a locker, and most of the community don't care at all. that's why we aren't getting interesting things. that's just deepwoken.
@random6498 at least we got confirmation from arch that the year counter isn't canon, just a thing to keep track of seasons, so in theory the lore still makes sense. Lord Regent has not been in etris for 300 years yay Hopefully once world events are out they'll actually give us a story, as they've showed us they can still cook
@random6498 but the books have like a lot of story to them, they aren't just written randomly but i lowkey fw some like the coldheart one and they DO listen to pvp players especially testers youtubers etc but they usually just add whatever tf they want. also "story" as in a quest like dukes is obviously lame because its a fetch quest but thats y they add QOL thinks like leaving training items in lockers or having to only unlock a main stat once
This is likely a reference to "Warbreaker", a series where five scholars, two of which, a man and a woman created a living blade that bleeds black smoke(shadowcast). It is named NIGHTBLOOD, the same name of the potion you get from shadowcast from. Deepwoken has referenced this author multiple times.
The man they owe is probably doctor carrion, I feel like that would make more sense, as he is described as crazy, while chaser isn't really characterized this way.
@@ermesmetal Some other references are: names in selection screen are characters, ShardBow Bell is a reference to ShardBlades from "The Stormlight Archive" of the same author, and DawnShot being the name of a detective that uses guns in "Mistborn" by the same author
@@ermesmetal In warbreaker, like you theorized about lifeweave, the power of life is only transferred, not created. When a blade is "Awakened" (book term for tranferring life into it), it becomes sharper, able to cut through stone like butter. I think this is the "LifeWoven Blades" in the lore book.
You explained it so well, I could barely understand the lore myself 😭 I’m glad the lore is actually quality though, full of concepts I’ve never known of
Fortinbras and us were both missing a piece of the puzzle, just different pieces... Fortinbras was missing the splinter, and we were missing Dierdre. She's the key.
God I love these lore videos so much. I don't really play deepwoken because it's a little too complicated for me but I know the game has good lore. Honestly you are slowly becoming the vaatividya of deepwoken
Thanks for making this video, trying to read that book while you're in the depths is like tryring to read chinese, this book is supposed to contain a clue on how to solve the mystery of the sword but even though I understood most of the story I can't figure out what the clue is, the only thing that comes to mind is bladeharper but I doubt it has anything to do with it, the end of the video where you mention how we finished off Fortimbras made me feel a bit sorry, honestly...
yeaaah the formatting of the book was iffy and it had a couple errors, so i took some liberties. the clue is probably something to do with wiping a player in the forge if i were to take a wild guess
Since fortinbras (?) went to bloodrend for guidance and it only says that the trainer didn't have any solid clue on how to transfer the soul, it could have to do with bloodrend itself, maybe in a way we wouldn't initially suspect?
After hearing this video, surely the natural implication is that when the dormant splinter is awoken, Deidre’s soul will fuse with the weapon, “awakening” it into something akin to the gran sudaruska. New shadow legendary maybe?
@@ermesmetal I highly think either more awakenings are going to be added or the witherblade isn’t the true form. Because it sucks, like the weapon is not good in a coventionak sense even as a legendary. Like if I got it from ferryman it would be treated like a stormseye. My bet is that the drowned gods use umbrite to form their avatars. The dormant splinters essentially being “drafts” if you will that never made the cut. Floating to the surface and drifting through the void sea before being eaten by the dread serpent or collected by the ministry and stored within their outposts in the void. I personally think them dropping from Sara mead is a bug or somthing just put to make getting them easier. Although ferryman may have taken the task upon himself to return them to the depths lest the mortals siphon the drowned gods power and awaken the true variant of the song. Even if it’s sealed within a weapon.
Im glad they actually decided to do lore this update, i can only assume its cause arch mage worked on the update solo that theres so much lore involved, i hope they make a way for u to spare the guy who gives you the weapon and awaken the splinter that way
Use jar of souls with dormant splinter grip something that meets a requirement like a npc or player is my theory or maybe you have to find a way to befriend the hailbreaker dude and he can tell you where dedrie's soul can be put on the dormant splinter
Considering what you said that the guy who holds hailbreaker that you fight to obtain it (forgot his name) friend or wife that he believes soul is trapped inside the coldheart. Whether that true or not, it holds some weight for revealing how to unlock the weapons potential, putting a soul, or maybe his wife's soul inside of the blade. How to do this though is whats troubling, all the pieces of the puzzle are clearly there but somethings missing maybe
Also, from the red text it seemed like me managed to store her soul into the splinter but deeply regrets it. I think the reason he geeks out so much is that fact that you are pretty much using his comatose wife's soul as a beating stick
10:50 wouldn't someone else like dr. carrion be a better match? unlike chaser carrion matches being a crazy black diver stuck in new kyrsa, with the book also being written quite a ways back it would also be referencing carrion as a more sane person before he was trapped in layer 2. (also vyrelda says to have defected from the ministry after learning bloodrend, chaser never taught her how to use it)
i think that’s a decent possibility - i assumed it’d be chaser due to his knowledge of vyrelda. the divers are also reportedly sending ‘scouts’ to retrieve this person - something we KNOW they have sent for chaser. perhaps they’ve sent scouts after carrion, but that’s unconfirmed. there’s also no reason for carrion to know vyrelda without ministry ties iirc - as well as the “I can’t just walk up to a Prophet” line simply just pointing me in the direction of chaser. i do get your point for sure though
guys guys i tried talkin to chaser with the weapon no special dialogue, tried talkin to carrion with the weapon(only in castle light btw) no special dialogue so uhh idk
the thing is i think she is there and the Dormant Splinter will just absorb her into the blade and that will evolve the Dormant Splinter just my thoughts tho
So basically, from what im hearing. We need to absorb his wifes soul, or im guessing we could also absorb another soul for the "more of a joke path" is what im getting. And his wife is not in the cold forge, but a corpse somewhere we could find.
Honestly, this whole thing with Fortinbras confuses me cause the Dormant Splinter (by the name) seems to me to be a sealed form of the Splinterblade, which was the King of Etris's sword, unless that's a retcon now or these are completely different weapons, I don't understand how the Cold Forge and everything about it tie into this weapon

The dormant GARBAGE-i mean splinter is made of umbrite. Its obvious Fortinbras didnt make it, so who did? Now heres my theory: Fortinbras thinks the Splinter is able to hold souls. An UMBRITE weapon being able to hold souls. What do the moon knights drop besides astral stones? Umbrite. What if moon knights are souls trapped in the splinter given another form? Since one of the main ways to get the splinter is Voidsea farming, what if moon knights are KRULIANS BOUND TO THE MOONS EYRIE!?
