You can’t see the headlights from the driver’s seat. And as added bonuses, these cars are really dependable, durable and easy to modify for higher performance.
Good point. Thanks for watching!
I have a 2004 C2 cab. Absolute bargain and every bit a Porsche 911. Great car... so much fun and stupid cheap! 996 is where it's at if money is a thing for you (like 99% of us!) :)
I agree, the 993 is too much, and the 997 is as well. The 996 is such a great option to get into the Porsche family
Pre-COVID, you could find 996 Turbos in the $30k range. Crazy.
It is crazy, that was such a good time to jump on them. I do think they are gonna continue to go up though. In another few years I think the pricing will be where the 997’s are now
Here in the UK you can still get one for £35k ($40k) , the very best ones max out at £70k for a low mileage mint Turbo S
I don't think those prices are going to last very long....but who knows. Only time will tell.
That’s right about when I got mine😊
@@996Revival winning!
FYI - Side air scoops and rear "gills" air is for ram air cooling the Turbo Intercoolers .. air scoops in, and exits through rear gills. Engine air intake is in the rear hood.
People like to rip on the “melted egg” headlights (they aren’t perfect circles as is the norm with Porsche) but I think they look cool! A unique and well aged design imo
Agreed, and the older they get, the better they are going to look!
Such a good video brother. Your posts are well put together and researched.
Thanks mate, glad you are enjoying the content!
I have a 996 C4S cabriolet that presents just as well as the Turbo in your video. I love the car, don’t care about the headlights…. Lol I wanted a Turbo however at the time they were all $20k more which put them just out of my price range. So I got the next best….the C4S 😁 Cheers!
With Porsche, you don’t really ‘settle’ because no matter what you get, it’s going to be amazing. I wanted a Boxster S but it was a pretty sizable jump in price so I went for the base. Don’t regret it one bit!
Outstanding work. Thanks!
Much appreciated 🙏
nice video. Keep them coming!
Thanks mate 🤙 Thank you for watching!
I owned a 2001 turbo. Best car I ever owned. I miss it terribly!
Might be time to get another one?
@@carcaveofficial I’m working a deal right now!
Keep us posted with your spec if you pick it up!
Interesting this car has telescoping wheel with no tilt .. by 2003 996T has tilt but not telescoping, lol. I'm 6'3" and had to install a 2" special spacer kit to move the wheel out, that gave me perfect seating position and extra knee clearance.
I did not even know a spacer was an option. If I had, it might have influenced my decision on a 996....
@@carcaveofficial I do track racing and am very particular about optimum seating position… the 2” spacer gave me perfect positioning. It was close to 300 bucks, and worth every cent.
Good to know, I will pass that option along in my travels!
Very good presentation
Glad you liked it! Thank you for the comment!
Love the 996 turbo but i dont like the headlight at all and i think those round light is what makes a 911 so beautiful from the front view and that's reflected on the price,i definetly wouldn't say not to the car because of the headlights.
It's all personal preference, at the end of the day, it all comes down to what the buyer likes!
They have aftermarket headlight covers that makes the headlights look round.
Talking about the headlights is plain crazy; i have a mint manual 2000 Turbo with a öhlins set; it drives amazingly good; a real petrolhead gem ❤
I agree, thanks for sharing mate!
great video. I picked up a 2004 convertible one for 59K!!!! What an amazing car!
It truly is, congrats on the new car and welcome to the Porsche family!
Nice video! Well shot, well put together and all around nice to watch. I’d take my turbo over any Cayman, hands down. I’d still take it over the modern 911s. It doesn’t need to be the “best” or “fastest” by anyone else’s metric. For me, it really ticks all the boxes😊
That is the mentality I think more car enthusiast need to have. You aren't buying the car to win a game of top trumps, you are buying it to enjoy. If you like it, you enjoy it, doesn't matter what anyone else thinks. Just my opinion.
@@carcaveofficial I wholeheartedly agree.
When 2004 yellow Gallardo egear review!!!! I saw 2 in San Antonio this past weekend.
As soon as I can find one, strangely hard to find a first gen Gallardo all of a sudden...
Headlights are very different to the Gen1 Carrera/986 Boxster as in your video. Carrera's got the Turbo lights in the Gen2 996...also the Turbo badge means it has 2 turbochargers not 1
The GT3 wheels look fabulous , I need them for mine.
Correct, twin turbo charged. I believe Porsche introduced the Twin Turbo originally on the 993 generation.
The GT3 wheels are amazing and yes you need them!
I used to own a 986 Boxster and I really missed its impressive handling as well as it being a blast to drive! I've taken my Boxster to 120mph and I was impressed that it didn't feel like I was doing 120mph. Plus, I was still able to attain 33mpg! The only thing I hated on my Boxster was the soft top. I sold my Boxster a while back and want to step up to a 911. I almost bought a 911 Carrera 4 but decided not to as I instead, want to get the Turbo. I'll take either 996 or 997 Turbo.
Check out this one on the dealers website. It you want a showroom clean one…this one is worth the look!
My 2001 tiptronic turbo coupe is all the car I ever promised myself…….
I find it ironic that the 996/Boxster headlamps copy the style of the Le Man winning GT1 car…… you would think that was cool 🤔?
I do think they are cool, and i have had that same thought. Idk, people are weird.
I'm so glad I picked one up 10 years ago.
Any regrets 10 years later?
@@carcaveofficial Absolutley none, its a brillaint car. Can be driven everyday or for spirited drives on the weekends. For what this car is capable of and be relaible is amazing. Porsche hit a home run with this model/generation.
I have a 987.2 Boxster and I feel the same way. It's not cheap to own compared to normal cars, but I can't find myself ever wanting to get rid of it.
Farouk!!!! My dad bought that car LMAO!!
Congratulations mate! This was the cleanest 996 Turbo I have ever seen, such a great buy!
Get some miles on that bad boy!
damn bro. Youre so lucky. Not everyone gets to experience what its like driving a 911.
I agree with you, not everyone does, but I do believe that anyone can!
Still thinking about what could have been. Was on my way to look at a 996 turbo before I got my Giulia Quad. I still want a Porsche 😢 . . . Awesome vid 👍🏼
Thank you my friend, the Alfa was a great choice though...maybe we do a video on your car in the next couple weeks?
Doesn’t look like it’s available for sale anymore. Certainly didn’t last long. Pretty car.
Cars that are as clean as that one was don’t last long at all..
Hot take - if Porsche had debuted the 996 headlights on a 911 GT1 special edition that was like a GT3 club sport 911 modeled after the GT1, and then trickled down the headlights to the 996 without the Boxster, the 996 would've been clamored over. Porsche-philes just look to complain and the optics on this could've easily gone the other way. I think the 996 is gorgeous.
That is an interesting theory, and it makes sense. Anytime a limited, or hero car has a feature, almost irrespective of how obscure, it brings value to lower trimmed cars.
I am a fan of the 996, and the more interesting, or unique the design, I think the better for the classic appeal.
Hey what’s going on? I think you did great I totally appreciate that. I just subscribe to you and I totally appreciate that you’re methodical very much interested I’m just a small fish a mom working really hard to get my coffee business off the ground here in Oakland California, so I’m kind of peeking looking for my first Porsche with micro monies but anyway I really appreciate the detail and hopefully I’ll get my first 911-996
Thank you for the support!
The 996 is a brilliant car! I highly recommend checking out some ‘buyers guide’ videos on RUclips to know what to look out for when buying. I’ve heard the years with single row IMS bearings are more reliable, but definitely do your research!
Yes sir. I have a 996 Turbo S a manual. So for the money it’s very hard to beat 6 spd manual twin turbo 450 stock Hp and carbon ceramic brakes. Also I have a cobb tuner. If I want 550hp easy. Beastly.I also have a 987 Cayman S manual. Awesome and for good measure 2010 pana turbo 550hp stock. Pdk
You have the best of all worlds mate, that is a well rounded collection. The Cayman for that mid-engined manual feedback, the Pano Turbo for the comfortable, powerful commute and the Turbo S when you need to remind everyone what your taillights look like.
Thanks for sharing!
It's a great value...till you have IMS issues or bore scoring. Although bore scoring may be less of an issue w the turbos and GT's (which is the case in the 997 generation). Buyer beware.
No IMS bearing issues for the Turbo actually.
Make sure to also have funds for the epoxy failure of the coolant pipes that occur on almost all 996 and 997 turbos AND the spun camshaft. Bottom line they're great cars...but don't every buy an old ass used one thinking it's a bargain. Will still have many known issues and failures and you need to set aside significant cash for repair.
I think with any used car, it carries a risk. Whether it is a Toyota Camry, or a Porsche 911, so I don't disagree. That being said, I think anyone looking to buy a car of this degree should consider the cost of ownership, after all, it was not an inexpensive car upon release, and wont be inexpensive to maintain either.
@@carcaveofficial correct. A camera won’t carry this price tag. Just people need to understand. I own a 997 turbo. Have had it for almost 15 years. Every major known issue has happened.
