Yeah, I agree. Each to their own of course but being creative always ends up in better results. It's so much fun to imagine a background story for your team and make them look special.
I keep wanting to convert some Kroot to a more fantasy use. There used to be a great tutorial for them using wood elf bits that are basically nonexistent now
@@narratordave7831 Once the squads are rounded out more would be amazing to see perhaps a mini diorama between them and the Astra Primursa that you can both work on? Whatever comes next though i know you'll both kick arse
I've just started a tau army and had this EXACT conversion scheme in mind. Thank you for showing of your killteam and what can now be easily achieved, it's been a boost in confidence in what I might be abke to achieve myself
I love how subtle the pink details are!! It's so hard for me to pick a favorite visual design between the two armies-- flowers vs bears lol-- can't wait to draw fanart of the battle report!!
These look great, I love seeing the creativity in these homebrew vids. And it's good to see some love for the Tau, it makes me want another Tau Fire Warrior game.
I'm getting into Tau currently, and I can't wait to see this grow! I actually really like their Infantry Armor, and I gotta say, I really like the Samaurai look you got. My personal Sept is the Kohr-Ah Sept, which is the Tau's answer to rioting planets and untrained insurgency actions that get out of control (so they'd deal with angry civilians as well as things like Genestealer Cults). They also have a reputation somewhat similar to Krieg, that being if they get called in, its hit the fan and no survivors will be found among combatants. Currently they're very anti-hoard, however as they get called to serve against things that aren't unarmored civilians and their cars they've slowly accumulated more and more large Battlesuits to deal with heavier armor, which is actually what one of their dual Commanders specializes in. Their first battle was earlier today actually, them against Harlequins/Craftworld and they did perfectly against the Infantry, but definitely needed heavier firepower, so they've commissioned some heavier weaponry to counter things like that in the future. Best of luck! I will await your tales of glory eagerly (oh, and the current concept for paint is Purple, Black, and Green, gonna need to look and see how that actually looks on models though (the game I played was on TTS)).
Especially since he brought up melee. Gue'vesa would reasonably be kept as a melee force since humans are better than Tau (for a variety of reasons) when compared in hand on hand combat.
Wow! This is fantastic. I play Tau and these are an inspiration. Honestly it's great to see something on this channel not drenched in streaking grime. o.O
Seriously though, you and Jazza NEED to do an army spread sheet like they do in codices for visual identification and variations! I'm just a sucker for how these armies are organized
I like how you told us about your personal journey in the hobby. Getting to know the people making content is always great and can put things into perspective.
As a Tau player myself I'm "like"ing this video before I even watch. Seeing the amazing work Dave does, the love and thought he puts into every project, I've been eagerly anticipating this video since Space Bears first teased the fight between them. :D
It's amazing how close this is to the custom Tau concept I came up with myself! The japanese designs, the swapped out samurai shoulder armor, the black, red, white color scheme, and even wanting to make custom humans in the squad. Just goes to show that great minds think alike! :)
Awesome work! Tau was one of my first armies, and i still have a spot for them in my heart. Having painted a lot of white(ish) and black armor i highly recommend using slightly toned highlights. Skin colors with intermediate blues work wonders on black as a final touch, and a bright sand color or blueish ulthuan gray is great to add some visual interest and natural lightning to whites.
This definitely got me more excited to see videos similar to it and to work on my own kill teams. It's great being able to add such a personalized touch to a force and kill teams are an awesome way to try those ideas out
Well, Dave, you're doing better than me, because I still haven't purchased or otherwise acquired any Tau of my own, and I was fascinated when the First Codex came out, back in 3E! Yup, back in 2001! 20 frickadellen years ago! Unfortunately for the Tau though, there are so many more projects that have a place of priority in my brain, and honestly, my PoS is big enough already (even if out of my brother, sister-in-almost-law and, in fact, absolutely everyone I know who plays or paints... mine is easily the smallest PoS I know of).
Great video! Can't wait for the battle report against the space bears. Another reason for the Tau carrying swords could be that they play a similar role to the Wakizashi swords carried by the Samurai. A Samurai would mainly use his katana for combat and the Wakizashi remained at his side as a symbol of honour that he always carried with him (never losing his honour). The Sakura could be carrying their swords for sentimental reasons while mainly using their rifles for combat.
guilty of seeing your videos till the end. It's worth it. This battle report is years in the making, may the minis stay away from the floor, especially that tau with the sakura tree
This is... incredible! Great job, I loved seeing your thought process and all the techniques used to make this beautiful army, it's truly inspiring and given me some ideas for my own tau. Keep up the great work!
I like the idea of a T'au Katana not being an offensive weapon but a defence tool. You could lorecraft them as hardened mini-shields that are wielded to deflect incoming gunfire, playing off the tropes of Samurai deflecting bullets with their swords.
Ohhh my god!!! I cant even those models look so amazing and unique the only word i can think of is just beautiful they are so cool great job man your so talented id love to see more of these hell id love to see them in person and play against them.
While I personally have a grudge towards the T’au for 8th edition, you have my admiration for all of your hard work and all the time you put into making this
Love this video, well any video where the Tau are getting some love is awesome, those custom Tau are definitely amazing creations that do feel as tho they belong, I honestly hope we can see more of your tau army looking like this
I would pay so much money to get a full army of this. I was thinking of painting my T'au pink, but couldn't think of a good way to pull it off. This is amazing!! Well done.
Great work dude~! I love the tau and it’s always nice to see more tau allied aliens or humans in this case :). Good luck in the game against the marines
Your story is so weirdly in line with mine. When i was working my first job (a little over 15 years ago) i picked up some GW tools, paints, basing materials, and a Tau Firewarriors. I Brought it home, opened the box, put it all back in the box and put it in the closet, and it took me until The Starpulse Cadre to decide to go back, and so last year i bought that big box and so this last year i have been (VERY SLOWLY) putting them together, and buying things for a small workshop to do more, faster. Also just invested in an amazon bundle Airbrush kit and also just bought the Elegoo Saturn SLA 3D Printer, and various accessories for that. I'm trying to learn as much as i can as fast as i can so i can start building a table to play on.
*Clears throat* WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBB!!!!!!!!!!!!!! In all seriousness, they look amazing and gorgeous. I love them.
I absolutely love the drone heads on the stealth suits. I've always thought they looked a bit clunky. The drone heads make them look way cooler and give the same visual feeling as a straw hat on a samurai. Great choice!
Really loved Murray's contribution here, 10/10. Also, curses! Now I need to do something with my Tau too. I could resist the space bears because I play chaos, but this is too beautiful. Time to finally build up my Tau starter set, lol
Love what you've done with these guys! I like how the stealth suits look like they have the classic straw hats. I'm probably the only one who associates those with samurai (thanks to Ninjago's Sensei Wu). I also like the mini lantern on the base. Keep up the great work!
Those Tau look amazing. I still am completely clueless when it comes to Warhammer, but the models look great! I would love to see more of this little sect!
I absolutely adore the way this sept looks and also your Guevesa (sp?) modeling job. I've always been a lover of the more border Tau, who eschew some of the doctrine for practicality and battle advantages (e.g Farsight). For flavor and a future larger army, it might be nice to get some Crisis suits kitted out more for close quarters/melee. Or, as another commenter suggested, Kroot. Maybe in that latter case, do some kitbashing and conversions with some lizardmen and other similarly inclined xenos to really sell the mixed units and open style the sept has needed to adopt due to their line of work.
I have lots of plans for abhumans and xenos - I in particular want to convert a really noble beastman fire warrior breacher who leads the charge. Some mutant who was shown nothing but love born inside the borders of the Tau empire - Free of hatred and judgement, who knows what a beastman could become?
Been looking forward to seeing what you did with this squad…and it does not disappoint. I really like the theme too…great work…now to see which army can dominate!
So neat, the samurai feel really fits with the to tau. Cant wait to see the killteam game between the bears. Definitely looking forward to seeing the rest of the army in the future. Very curious on how the mechs are going to turn out.
I’ve literally started a custom Tau kill team too dude, I went a darker approach making my pathfinder team all sole survivors of harsh conflicts brought together as a single seek and destroy unit. Given them a headhunter vibe as they collect the heads of targets and wear the skulls of the most powerful creatures of the galaxy they kill.
Love the Tau! I have been waiting for this since Jazza mentioned that you were making custom Tau chapter. That being said I would love to see your take on a custom Space marine chapter as well!
4:25 if you were a samurai you always had two swords even if they weren’t allowed their large sword that’s why there are 3 major decreasing sizes (katana, wakazashi and tanto) also i’d love if there were in the major base like the largest or command area there was a sakura tree which is the main meeting area for the different members
Such an amazing way to build some Tau! Its really a big Inspiration for me right now because i search for an army for kill Team, and I'm totally in Love with your Design! is it written as "Sa'kura" or "Sak'ra"? i'm just curious
What's the song and artist at 12:16
It's always fun to see personalized armies. Makes them more unique and gives the creator opportunities to be more creative.
I will never not create my own armies. Way too much possibility to create wasted by just copying.

Yeah, I agree. Each to their own of course but being creative always ends up in better results. It's so much fun to imagine a background story for your team and make them look special.
