- Not only is this army the worst Warhammer army I have come across, but it was also one of the cheapest! Bought on eBay for a whopping $1 per model, that's one of the better deals I've gotten in a long time. This is a really exciting project and I want to turn this Blades of Khorne army into something real fun for the tabletop! This week the focus is going to be on a super nice older BloodThirster that will fit right into this army.

By far this is the worst army I’ve seen, and not because of the pieces that look ok. The army as a whole is almost completely wrecked, some of them are even beyond repair. The bloodthirster, he was the best, and I’m not knocking the paint job at all. There were parts missing of course, so those had to be fixed, but the rest of the army looks like melted goo. So In my experience, no, there aren’t worse armies out there.
@@eBayMiniatureRescues I guess but IMO it just looks like the paint was too thick when applied and that they had all chipped badly and missing pieces of course I’m not sure it’s the worse you have seen what about that ultramarine picture that everyone has seen

Having owned that old school blood thirster I'm 99% sure there was no missing parts to the hilt from whip. I remember pinning it as it just sat in the u shape of the hilt. Great job on it.

Agreed, I've seen much worse. Played with many young players and their first army or two are usually much much worse than what this looked like.
i would like to see what happen if a artist repair the "given style" with adding detials shadows (may overpainting real fails) etc.

As the original seller, a bit of a back story. I have been buying and selling Warhammer for 15 years. I also do professional painting jobs and commission for fun. About four years ago, a fellow wargamer gave me his 9-year-old son Khorne army after he passed away for free. It was his first army and was using it to learn how to paint. I placed them in simple green but ironically moved to Reno NV shortly after for work. When I returned back home to PA beginning of last year, I discovered them and put them up for sale (I was downsizing at the time). Ironically, If I had them with me in NV, I could have walk a mile to the house and said: Free army, here you go.

This certainly marks the first time that a seller has come forward after a video that I’ve made. Thank you for sharing, I really appreciate it. It’s very unfortunate and sad that your friends son passed away. Hopefully I can do a little justice to the army by fixing it back up.

I prefer the original dog headed bloodthirster, but great paint job anyway.
You can mix milliput with play doh at around 50%. Helps with making it easier to mix the milliput, and the hardener from the milliput will harden the play doh. Saves you using more of the expensive milliput, and can still be sanded.

Is the danger really on the level of "no glove airbrushing" and "brush licking" or more along the lines of using propellant sprays in your spray booth? ;)
@@deebernaers137 jokes aside I think it’s a pretty legitimate fire hazard. I haven’t looked into it much as I don’t use an ultra sonic cleaner. My understanding is the ipa should be bagged and the cleaner filled with water.
Probably a lot more dangerous than rattle cants in a spray booth.
I have fond memories of Kenny Boucher’s video from maybe four years ago when he eBay-rescued this model. I’m impressed that you picked up where he left off, and amplified it, restoring from a worse place, telling more of a story and making a better video. Bravo!
Man that takes me back, I remember watching that video when it came out! Kenny does some really nice stuff :)
The sand did really make it feel like the model was standing on that base in a natural way, and made the whole piece come together. that detail in the book and the carving on the altar has to be one of my favorite features of this piece.
I really like how you start with something that looks pretty much done for and "dust it off and show it some love" for an amazing turn around.

Honestly I've seen, and was expecting, a lot worse. Could have got a persons first army where they didn't know anything about painting or assembly. Were the models still in one piece that army would have looked reasonable presentable compared to a number of other armies that I've seen.
Saw some pretty horrific Cadian soldiers on eBay recently. It's like they put paint on a cat's paws, then put catnip all over the figures.
I think a cool bit to add at the end would be a before and after shot. Prior to resto and then after with both on your spinning display so we get a really satisfying view of just how far you were able to bring these models back. Cool stuff man

Best way to use Milliput, is mix with rubbing alcohol. It becomes a paste. So you can brush it like paint, into layers. It's far more forgiving, if you don't have sculpturing skills.
I've tried that a few times and just haven't been able to get the consistency quite right. Sometimes it seems fine and I can fill small gaps, but more often it seems like it's not breaking down the milliput and I have to go in by hand anyways. Idono, something to keep trying!

People confusing curing with drying.
Pro tip. A small dad of super glue to anchor the putty can make working much easier

Sure those models were painted by a novice but you can tell that some effort had gone into it.
Agreed on the click bait. After saying “It’s a little worse than I anticipated but totally salvageable” the title feels a tad disingenuous.
Great rescue of a classic model. One thing awesome about Miliput as well is that once it’s cured it’s easily sanded as well. Looking forward to seeing the rest of the army.

Nostalgia! I still have this old Bloodthirster from when I started out in the hobby about 20 years ago. Cool work!
BTW I read that using an ultrasonic cleaner like that could potentially be quite dangerous. The isopropanol alcohol has a low flash point, which means it creates fumes that could easily catch fire from a spark of sratic electricity or if the machine malfuntions. Also, a basket in the cleaner is recommended in order to prevent damage to the transducers.
I've had a few thousand points of Nids in my garage for the past 12 years because when I bought them they looked as beat up as this army. Been trying to fix them up lately, and this gives me hope that it's possible!

A new legendary artifact has been created: Lifespiller, the Bloodletter Whip!
In rescued a carnifex that was missing his head arms and legs. What little there was has been HOT GLUED together. Gave him a spare carnifex head I had, 4 deathspitters and the legs from my hive tyrant since my tyrant was a flyer.
As always another job well done, but man those are some bigly wings, hell have no trouble actually taking flight with those bad bois.
there's something very satisfying about finishing a repaint/repair where you spent the whole time going "whyyyyyy?" when you got a look at it in person for the first time

Really dig the figure, using the head as a hilt is inspired and the paint turned out great. Not a fan of the sand all over the base though, but that's more of a difference in artistic choice than anything.
I just admire a fucking craftsmanship and talented hands. It's satisfying to watch.
Why is that army the worst? It looks absolute ok for its Money.
I am glad to see someone who knows what they're doing using isopropyl alcohol to strip paint. Because I wasn't sure if its a good idea. I use it to remove small areas of paint with a cotton swab. I it works well. But it does remove the primer too. So the small area needs a complete repainting. But it's still a good eraser for a basically almost complete model that somehow you make a big mistake in a smaller area. Better than a complete model repaint.
Great for faces if you wait til the end to do the eyes!
as someone who owns 7 bloodthirsters (yes i made a demon Angron and 7 bloodthirster squad) I can confirm that there were no parts missing to the whip, the flat end just slotted between the 2 prongs next to the skulls... the conversion still looked EPIC though
Hah, figures, it just seemed like a weird fit to me. And probably because the last owner put greenstuff around it really made me think there was something missing. Glad to know there isn’t!

I know what you mean, but pretty much everything I do on this channel is an attempt to mitigate that, even if only a little bit. This army is a half stripped mess, but with a little bit of work it's going to be a very playable army, I paid $85 for it, which is less than a start collecting box. I've done other armies in the past as well, spending way below msrp for a full 2k point army. You can do it man, just save here and there, be patient, you will eventually get the army you want. In the meantime, there is some serious fun to be had playing with just start collecting boxes on a smaller table size. Don't discount games below 2k points :)

I just bought a 2000 point ork set off someone online. Good 80% of it is unpainted... The rest made me want to cry. Bright, and I mean BRIGHT orange ork skin with very elegant looking hot pink pants and purple shirts.
None of which is even done well, very sloppy. There is even an Ork with what seems to be a green stuff sculpted smurf hat on him.... Which I had a laugh at and decided to keep on
So glad you're not in the UK so you won't come across my 40k Space Marines from 15 years ago! Not actually painting or gaming minis myself anymore but love these videos and makes me want to paint them for painting's sake

Bloodthirsters don't skip leg day, those are some chiselled glutes.
The one reason I got learned how to cast parts/use 3d printers was because I like buying old armies that are gooped painted, missing limbs and restoring them. It's actually really fun as well as gives a second life to models

Just got an old Metal Space Marine Captain, he was missing an arm, head and power pack. I kit bashed it and he looked amazing, best $6 spent on a model
DOT3 brake fluid also works great for removing paint from metal cast minis, no ultrasonic required

I do want to say plastic pieces to make a unit costing more then $10 is just creedy .Now for 20 units anything more then 55$ is also very steep.

I keep thinking how bad a job I've done on my models and I lose motivation to continue. Then I see these rescue jobs and realize I could be much, much worse. It's just the kick in the pants I need.

I still remember the marine gunship I bought...painted with lacquers and assembled with huge chunks of flash and spruce still attached. Couldn't save the piss yellow turret or broken canopies. The hurricane bolsters were half melted on. Luckily it was assembled using crazy glue. I was able to save it, convert the turret and add heavy bolter door guns. It cost ne a whopping $20 total for an $80 model.

Is that you ole gaming teacher? I remember you having your daughter take a house painting brush, flat white house paint & painting/priming a lot of Grenadier metal miniatures? Oh, we can't know how those figures turned out for you?
Finished prints should not have that much white lines. Maybe try cleaning a good bit more in, or change IPA. Also make sure all IPA has evaporated before using more UV lights on it ;)

I’ve had no interest in warhammer for 20 years but I love watching videos about it.
I literally started today repainting my army (bought as full painted) and this video was awesome motivator for me even I clearly know that my minis will not react that level of art.

You should have seen the Black Templars I found at my local flea market. I would have passed them up but I got around $250-$300 worth for $60 including an army of Orks. Whoever had the Templars had no idea what primer was and painted in enamel. They also sucked ass at construction.
that whip handle wasnt missing a piece
i have my Og bloodthrister on the shelf next to me, thats how the whip handle looked, its a sort of U shaped top right between the two skulls at the top of the handle, which the base of the whip slotted into
this model still had that u shape slot clearly visible, and the base of the whip was entirely intact
