Steve, my personal ARK tutor! Almost four years ago you gave me the courage and strategy to tackle my first artifact cave (lava cave on Rag). Then you led my wife and I through all of the Island caves (with the help of Michelle). And yesterday, after searching for 15 heatwaves, your trap gave me my first Phoenix. Your research and efforts are unsurpassed. You are sure to show how things are done, even on "Official" servers, rather than, "Watch me beat the ice queen with a sword" types of videos. I've said it before, but I'll say it again, Thank you Steve! (I just spotted another Phoenix while fighting Dodo wyvern, trap is up, waiting for heatwave.)

After playing this game for years I finally stumbled upon a phoenix today, watched this and was almost set to get him when another heatwave hit. I went to keep an eye on him and at the last moment he flew straight into the lava in the wyvern trench...
I am late to the game I know, but me and my wife have just started playing Ark and we just got a Phoenix. All credit is due to this video! We just so happened to see a phoenix turn to ash while we were out and about.. I instantly pulled up RUclips to find out how to make use of this and found this video. We created the trap and waited.. Thanks for such great information!!
I wish I had seen this video before I tamed my 145 Phoenix, it was a nightmare building a ramshackle tower to contain it heat wave after heat wave. This is so much more efficient, finally a use for oil jars!
Anky is .5 higher than the phoenix on metal harvesting with 150 perfect tame base level hitting 3 nodes each anky got 413 while the phoenix got 155. Phoenix and anky both had a melee of 469% stick to anky for the harvesting but keep a few phoenix around as speed forges
Just tried this.. 24 fortitude, calian soup, absolutely destroyed by the heat. I wonder if additional foundations on the bottom would allow you to put your platform further back and give you more distance to throw oil so you could avoid some heat If you build the ceiling overtop of the foundation you put down, you can attach another ceiling and put the ladder on the back side of it. Doesn't really seem to help though. I'd recommend bringing a stack of healing brews to help keep your health up
I love using a Phoenix along side an Argy to quickly build bases in hard to get places it has almost completely replaced the Anklo in some of my playthroughs
Six months after installing Ark I'm finally ready to admit I'm done with the Island and should do the next map. I am *extremely* happy I found this video before enraging myself trying the wyvern method!
Awesome video Steve. You make the best ark tutorials by far. I learn so much shit from you.. thanks a million mate That has to be the Best Pheonix trap easy. I breed my magmasaurs with fire wyverns instead of lava. You only have to heat the female up when you breed the magmasaurs.. I use two wyverns and switch when 1 runs out of stam because I play solo. Make a tutorial on that because I bet tons of people don't know you can breed magmas on any map with wyverns.
Ressurecting this! Steve, this trap sorta works on ASA as well! the wall height is different, we used 3x walls and it spawned below the trap, I removed the hatch frame and it flew up into it! It might be worth a test on ASA. Anyways we got our Phoenix and guess what? The vanilla ASA Phoenix can LAND on the ground! I have never had a Phoenix before and this guide helped us so much. I've been subscribed for years now. The first video that i watched of yours was your snow owl trap

This trap works a treat. The server I play on is a little time and tame boosted so we use the flame throwers once in the trap. But trap works perfectly, many of the players have used this trap.
Nooblet is a legend, before him, phoenix where considered endgame creature and by the time i've found them, they were useless for me. But Nooblet has thaught me how to tame a phoenix early game and they are also faster than wyverns, immuned to fire. who need Pteranodon and Argys?? I'll go ahead and steal my first wyvern egg with my whole flying base!
Yes, that is a good method, I teamed with a player back in the day on PS4 and we used oils to get his Phoenix's, although we also used flamethrowers and that was a bit on the costly side on officials, never knew about the ability of the Parasaur being able to detect Phoenix ashes though, that would have saved a lot of searching. If the Wyvern blocks it from escape out from the sides, what about a couple of Wyverns, one being on the top of the cage, would that stop it from getting out from the top and let the player slowly get to land?
An update on this build from official servers and their settings. Be very aware that this video was done on a *4X Taming* Server. The tower base works very well and the phoenix did appear in the trap. However, being only one ceiling out, even on the edge you will die very quickly to heat stroke especially since you are doing this 'during a heat wave'. Two beds is NOT enough. Two players constantly throwing oil pots went through almost 200 of them and only got a 54 phoenix to 57% before it despawned. I have 40 fortitude, was drinking iced canteens for the buff, calien soup, chugging health brews, and I still died very quickly in full ghille. We waited for the next heat wave and this time the phoenix spawned outside of the trap and flew off. So know the trap is not 100% and that phoenix's do NOT tame that fast unless you are playing on a highly increased server so sorry for officials. Since this video is done on a modded server perhaps Nooblets should put that in the title and perhaps mention any other mods or changes he is running as I am watching his health that close to the flames and that is not the way it would react on official server. Thanks.
