@LilA-zl6tf I race, and the whip is needed to keep the horse focused and keep it going. The padded whip does not hurt the horse as much as the old type of race whip

The title is a misrepresentation, it was the jockey's strategy to stay behind.. The race was 2 miles, 3 furlongs, with hurdles. Pays to save energy and stay away from trouble. And you must have the jockey and horse that can do it. A fun race to watch.
You can see on the first lap that he was watching how the ground was cutting up and clearly choosing the best ground to save energy. Jumps not my thing but a very clever ride.
I'm not sure it was so much the jockey. The horse was sort of asleep at first, but soon as the horse made contact with the field again, he got excited and decided he wanted to get involved. The more he advanced, the more enthusiastically he ran.
Wow! I kept watching to see what was so special about this race, then I saw the red and yellow starting to move... wow what a ride. Just sat back there till time to make the move.
I don't claim to be a horseracing expert but I have noticed that, for about three-quarters of a typical race, the horses are hacking along. It is only at the 75% mark that the jockey has to assess whether his or her mount can accelerate into full pace just a bit earlier than the rest. However, this was a pretty startling example of this rule of thumb, as the winner started scything through the field as they were still going around the final bend.
For any Cheltenham punters look very closely at Chepstow form. I did Norton’s Coin but didn’t take the the 500/1 in the morning on my lucky 15. He came in at 250/1 but a lovely pay day. The bookies asked if I’d take a cheque! My answer? Did I give you a cheque? Out came the bag man. Norton’s Coin had fantastic form at Chepstow.
"Jockey refused to give up!" What kind of nonsense is this? He settled him out the back and the horse was always travelling well. I swear the people who write these captions don't have the first clue about racing.
I agree, he hacked around until 4 furlongs out before jockey got serious with him, experienced jockey knew about the long run in at Chepstow on soft ground, a very good ride though, cool and confident
I wouldn't have bet this horse in running, but four fence's out he really looked good, you can never count your money in racing until they past the line, it's part of the excitement
This is a brilliant ride. For another brilliant ride watch Kiwi in the 1983 Melbourne Cup where Jimmy Cassidy took him from last to first in the length of the home straight and he won going away!
A great example for all of us that no matter how far you are down nothing is impossible you just have to keep pushing never giving up till you race across the finish line because our good Lord only makes winners.
True Story - The 3 writers for the movie "Airplane" spent $60,000 on a prank - they bought a racehorse and named it "All Pink" - they instructed the jockey to ride it close to the rail rather than try to win - they did this so they could hear the commentator say - "its All Pink on the inside...!" - it took them 3 horses over 4 years before they finally completed the task in 1993....! 🤣🤣😂😂🤣🤣
Good ride patient. Plenty of the other jockeys would have pulled up. Has the course changed at Cheptow? The hurdles seem different I'm not sure I like it 😕
Unbelievable! That was absolutely stunning.
I can't stop laughing! Amazing stuff
He'll never forget that win!! What a ride from a rider
What a run from the horse!
@@stephanieyee9784 I just wish they could trust the horse without the whip.
And yet we see this strategy all the time, so it amazes me that people are amazed.
Genial el jockey!!!! Guardó la energía de su caballo para el último tramo!!!! Sabiduría de un buen conocedor de la resistencia de su caballo!!!
@LilA-zl6tf I race, and the whip is needed to keep the horse focused and keep it going. The padded whip does not hurt the horse as much as the old type of race whip
Absolutely incredible ride, a joy to watch, well done Gavin.
Love a horse that runs from the back - just like Chautauqua! So exciting and you feel the horse just loves it.
Not at all!
It makes for better spectacle, that's for sure.
Unbelievable 😮jockey and horse just never give up. Exactly what you want to see. Hats off to you both.
Horse travelled really well even when adrift of field in early stages of race
That looks like a brutal race. Those horses looked absolutely exhausted at the end.
The best ride so far for the jumping season and what a price too I wish all of us had horses like that winning. Well done
Sheehan and the horse take a BOW. Just brilliant.
Went through the field like a knife through butter
Sounds like flat top from snatch!
Very clever. Noticed how he went for the fresh ground.
Gavin is a fine horseman. His ride on Hewick in the King George was something else as well
Wdym his horse was flat to the board but found more from nowhere Wssnt a great ride at all his horse travelled awfully and got him out the shit

THIS IS racing at its finest. NEVER GIVE UP!!!
Wow! What a ride! Great horse and jockey.
Beautiful/wonderful ride. I love Horses and jockeys coming from the clouds to win.
Brilliant, patient ride Gavin, get in there man!
Brilliant strategy. Had a pleasant gallopmost of the way and THEN put the throttle down.
Gavin Was Smooth As Silk!! Never Give Up On Winning!!
It was planned that way

Wow, what a beautiful and considerate ride by Gavin Sheehan.

Though Gavin has ridden a few races just like this won...
Awesome ride
Didnt have this but had him on the Its you horse in the last race but what a ride from horse and jockey on this race 👏
Incredible ride !
Wow! What a ride!
Underrated jockey.
Who ever underrated him,he has always been rated one of the top jockeys by media and punters alike where have you been
@@paulconey252 he's not in the top 10 jockeys
This must be the ride of the decade unbelievable riding, watching it just doesn't get boring. Tip of the hat to you Sir
Great ride. Didn’t panic, didn’t give up . He gave the horse a chance and reaped the reward.
I think he knew exactly what he was doing.
Bloody perfect, I knew they would do it!!!
I'm not a fan of the jump racing, but what a fantastic run that was. Ridden like a dream and ran like a machine. 👏👏👏
Just when you're binning your betting slip😂😂
that horse power and stamina is incredible ! that jockey really have full confidence in that horse.
Wow! I kept watching to see what was so special about this race, then I saw the red and yellow starting to move... wow what a ride. Just sat back there till time to make the move.
Unbelievable what a horse and jockey
Brilliant. Last to 1st in 4 furlongs. Smashing jockey and tough horse.
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Such a satisfying ride and they both must have enjoyed those feelings
Brilliant from sheeehan and horse

Normally that is the way. Bit different in USA racing and some other countries though
Looks as though he knew his horse very well indeed.
He’s the best around by a long way. You know whatever you’re going to get a positive ride.
Definitely a contender for ride of the season!
Good tactics, they went to fast in testing conditions, and he stayed the best after saving all the energy in the early part of the race !
Brilliant ride
He was always going well
What a great ride from Gavin and his outsider, a great pain for most favourite punters 😢at 25-1 odds
feel sorry for the BETFAIR LAYERS who saw this as EASY PICKIN"S early on in the race lol

Good pilot
Great ride, look at his hands nice and steady and picks the horse up again going into the straight
@@galdessa1 Indeed but there's RUclips channels I've stopped following because they keep doing that.
A very good horse man
You mean the HORSE never gave up!🐎
Can you imagine having a tenner on this rider and horse and seeing it at the back of the pack,, brilliant ride
Well done, Hedera Park!
I wouldn't have bet this horse in running, but four fence's out he really looked good, you can never count your money in racing until they past the line, it's part of the excitement

The best jump jockey around. I only back his mounts!! Big up top jockey!!
@3:28..... I saw it coming !!!!!
That was superb, get in.
Give that man a medal!!!!! 😎✌️
It could have gone very wrong, but he pulled it off!
Great ride!
What a game horse!
That horse looked like it was flying. That was very cool
Remember- the aim is to be first at the finish, not first at every hurdle.
Fantastic 👍
Que determinación perspitencia y nunca darse por vencido 😊
Never gave up ??? Why on earth would he ?? The horse didn’t come off the bridle till midway between the last two hurdles

Well done l don’t really watch horse racing that was spectacular …..
What a ride.
Wow. Had to watch that twice to realise exactly what happened.
You've watched a different race to me. Hedera Park was never under pressure and it appears Gavin Sheehan meant to be there.
Totally brilliant 👍😀
Sheehan only hit it three times, brilliant.
Ride of the year
never give up!!
Take another look….he stayed in the firm part of the track for the entire journey until about a furlong or two from home.
It's definitely a tactic. Horse settles beautifully in the better part of the track and out of trouble.
what a good race
When every other horse loses the steam, the winner just starts moving. insane.
what a race
Great job !!!❤❤
Yes the rider was skillful. But I bet the horse thought "what a bunch of old nags, I will just sit at the back and wait my turn"
No Horse person gives up. Only when age knocks on your door, you just slow the ride down
Giddy up, time to go!!!
و كيف حال الحصان ان شاء الله يكون بخير
