- Dan Rainwater and I answer your questions about the Eroica's new aluminum pontoons!
Upgrading the flotation is the biggest project we've ever done on the Eroica and we're excited to give you a sneak preview of it! We're filming the whole project from start to finish and will upload the project videos here and on my RUclips, so stay tuned!
Special thanks to @lincolnelectrictv for partnering with us and providing some key equipment for our build!
Buy gold mined on the Eroica at Shop.BeringSeaPaydirt.com !!
0:25 Are you building a whole new dredge or modifying the Eroica?
1:51 Why are you building them out of aluminum?
4:44 Are you filling them with foam?
5:50 How do you test the pontoons to make sure they won't sink before it goes in the water?
6:55 Why are you framing the insides like that? - Развлечения
All boats are sinking, the only question is how fast…buy gold and gold paydirt mined by my team on the Eroica at Shop.BeringSeaPaydirt.com
Didn't u have a baby recently Emily
Bought my paydirt last month
no, lol most boats re not sinking. all boats fade into sinking, true. that's like saying all humans are old. many are young, yet we are all getting old!!!
Our pontoons have air valves to pressurize the pontoons so you can check the pressure and you always know if you have a hole if they don't hold pressure
I’ve been watching your show for a number of years now and I have been blown away by the show since you lost your job. You should be proud of the work you’ve done.I luv the new format. It personalises you and the boys. Brings us viewers much closer to you guys. Well done and greetings from Down Under.
It’s comments like this that make it all worth it. Greetings from Alaska and thank you for watching Gary!
I wish Bering Sea Gold had gotten as many episodes as Gold Rush, your show is so much better.
true , but they are also hard to do since so many times they can't dredge due to really bad weather. but I love the show
Ah fuuuuuuuuu++... Have they been cancelled? I didn't even know... 😞
@@mcbrite no, not that I’ve heard, I meant I wish they had gotten more episodes this past season, as many as Gold Rush did
This is an Awesome combination: Fabrication, Welding, and Gold Mining all in one!
Seeing you happy, with a cute baby is so different to me compared to the intensity of the show on Discovery. Please keep doing these videos. We love learning about Alaska, your challenges, and seeing you do well.
I’m excited! Been a fan from the beginning! Congratulations for staying in it ! And getting better all the time 😊
Those welds say all you need to know about the engineer. Perfect welds, and not overdone.
Watching East Coast boating for decades, aluminum is very definitely a West Coast/Pacific North West preference
Emily, It's always great to see you! I wish you the best of luck with your upgrades and replacement work.
You have an absolutely beautiful voice Erica
I wish you all the best of luck and success for the next season, looking forward to seeing you in action. Phil. 🇬🇧
Emily you put on a great show love watching what you are doing up there, it’s hard work keep putting out great stuff!!
Waiting to see the finished product.
Pretty cool to see this chic is still at it !
Great Job, this is much needed on your boat.
Looking forward to seeing the revamped Eroica on the water. Best of luck to you and crew.
Thank you!
Quelle surprise! I'd never seen an interesting video about pontoons before. And I still haven't. 😃
Use a schrader valve on the pontoon and add air. It will hold the PSI if it doesn't leak.
I follow you on TV and RUclips. I admire your perseverance. I hope you find lots of gold.👏
This is first class fabrication, well done...!
Hope all goes together without any problems.
LOVED THE VIDEO !! Very Cool , Cant wait to to see it up at Nome , FLOATING GREAT !! :) LOL
Love ya work Emily!
Emily's everything is just fine! LOL
There is a blue die you spray on the welds. If it comes threw the other side it leaks
Every boat leaks... Looks 👍
They’re all sinking - question is how fast
Gotta keep that suction hose running 24/7 bro.
Just a tip you might want to try, to test for leaks . As a 25yr concrete finisher when the plumbers would have to pass a air pressure test before we could pour, the pipes would have to hold air pressure over night to pass inspection , if it lost pressure its leaking
The Erotica is getting new pontoons!.....
For a split of a second...what's on your mind?
Before you launch the pontoons. You can put water in it to detect leaks in the pontoons.,and maybe some fiber glass on the outside for against the driftwood.
This chick is badass.and she keeps pushing when things get down ...I think she's the best woman fisherman
Sing it!!!!
Great Tone,. Crunchy white snow, clear blue sky, brand new pontoon, Great people,. Great Video,. Life is good,. Thanks,. Have a great day,.
I'm really proud of her and her accomplishments.
Oh my!! 0:07 was absolutely worth it!! 😉
In minnesota we use aluminum boats.! Lund boats are made in minnesota! But then again northern mn is called little Alaska for some reason. I want to go to Alaska dam it!! Cool keep the videos coming I hate the short videos.
Good luck
love seeing the dredge getting better and better. keep up the hard work . oh and did you not own a claim? and if so do you still have that? or was that just Kent area ??
We sublease
Lol, go get the gold...I gotta get up there.
Rename the boat Emily's echoe dredge, looks pretty good to me nice work.
NDT of welds is advisable
I'd have some hatches in each bulkhead for storage and an automatic bilge pumping each one under a false floor say 6" high.
Nice work guys!
Actually you could pressurize the voids and spray the outside with soapy water and or see if it holds pressure overnight. I wouldn't go much higher than 5 maybe 8 psi tho. Simply attach automotive wheel valves on top of each void. Also I would use an inert gas like Nitrogen to keep the inside of the pontoons from corroding. This would allow you to simply check for leaks on a regular basis. Note, inside pressures will change slightly with the temperature and weather/barometric pressure. And as im sitting here coming up with this idea off the top of my head i can't help but wonder if and how much this would stiffen the pontoons making them slightly more rigid or stronger.. ?? Not to mention the obvious ability it would provide to spot a leak under the water line. Which leads me to think that if you did get a leak while out, you may actually be able to connect a compressor to that pontoon and force the water out (so long as the rupture isn't too big for the compressor to keep up with) which could save the day. Sry for rambling on, my mind tends to dive deeper than my umbilical sometimes lol.
You gonna add water proof closed cell foam to make them the best they can be? Like Ranger Boats their is sacrificial anodes to protect aluminum from the corrosion
Very cool guys!
I have a question, if you don’t mind. Sorry if you have already answered this. Why not pursue a career in singing opera? Your voice is amazing!!
Minings a full time job!
Awesome Emily!!! In for the long haul!
Closed cell polyurethane foam doesn’t hold water but it is expensive here I can’t imagine how much it would cost in Alaska… Good luck with the new pontoons!
Also, is it that expensive to add 1/16 to it and make it a 1/4 instead of 3/16???
It’s all incremental! Would be thousands more. You draw the line somewhere best as you can between cost and performance
@@TheEmilyRiedel absolutely agree, 100%. It’s amazing how something as small as 1/16th of an inch is literally 1000s more…. I’m sure the improved Eroica will do great things for you! Good luck this summer!!!
Blessing sent to you Emily and your Beautiful family.
As an aluminum welder, 3/16 is excellent! I'd be interested to know the aluminum alloy. I work with 5356. We air check, then hydro check every weld before it goes into service.
5086
@@TheEmilyRiedel As you already know, that's the perfect alloy for the job. I hope I can work with that alloy in the future.
Do the pontoons have watertight compartments?
Sweet you guys! Hope you kill it this summer! 👍
welds are gorgeous
Put it up on blocks and then fill it with water and check it that way.
kick ass time lol love it be safe
You know I've seen 3/4 rods before. All I know is I never wanna weld something that big
Hi, big fan. What is needed to be a driver for you?
Hey, Genius,' fill it with water to see if it leaks. Easy peasy.
Better to figure out it's leaking after you're finished & it's ready to launch.
Emily, have you considered trying some sort of metal detecting coil you could pull across the bottom with a boat to help locate rich gold deposits off the coast? It may or may not be a feasible way of locating dredging sites to increase success. There may be a practical way of doing this in the future. I`m a crazy guy so that`s how I think.
The gold is too fine and divers can find it faster with their eyes
Good luck from Scotland 🏴
I like Dan's warranty policy. "I'll be working on the boat I'm building, and do it's in my best interest for it not to sink" Very nice!
I love aluminum trailers here in maine 😍 love my 16 x 6.5
wow the can-makers at there best !
Best of luck to u guys
SAAAAA-WEEEEEEET🤘🤘 AND SING IT GIRL❣️
Thank you for teaching us about your boat building project, very interesting.
Love and kisses for your beautiful baby.
Did you just show is a hidden talent lol more singing into metal haha
Would a sacrificial anode prolong the life of the pontoons?
Yup! They’ll get zincs
Do you need to get a USCG inspection for modifications?
Please understand that I'm positive you'd pass!
I'm just curious if the USCG is involved in your industry... We don't see much about that on television.
No we don't need it. It's only for passenger vessels or vessels of a certain size I believe
@@TheEmilyRiedel thank You for the reply!!! I hadn't considered passenger vessels!
go Lincoln electric, great metal fab gear for generations, with mk gun makes aluminum welding like Childs play
:)
Looks great, what kind of aluminium is that EN AW 5083?

@@TheEmilyRiedel Amazing, I really love aluminium ships and their beautiful welds.
Are u filling them with foam floatation at all so u don't have to worry about any leaks
Foam at 4:40
gad havent seen her in a long time shes a hottie love her attitude
will Jane be with you in the Futcher you are a cool lady love watching you
Hope so!
we have Salt water...
Gee, you could add a hatch to that and install a bed in there! 😄
Needs a nap room
HI ALL
I no were now talking about the kelly's but hay they had it right with pontoons upgrade's awesome ya doing it great will discovery film this year ?
Ah dam iv got a man crush . Dan the man I'm in my 50s seen the world been to see live 8 months a year on a boat Foam is evil F foam . Aluminium welding is an art that pontoon is a work of art you are one lucky lady .
Saltwater boats in Florida avoid aluminum due to galvanic corrosion. Just being by the salt water in Florida causes that corrosion. The only way to extend aluminum from that corrosion and pitting is a good coating like powder coat.
PS just like in your chemistry class, the heat in Florida increases that electrochemical reaction where it’s going to be slower in your colder climates in Alaska, but it’s still not a good saltwater metal. Certainly more affordable than all stainless though.
Some people bolt on sacrificial anodes to reduce corrosion
Didn’t know that!
@@TheEmilyRiedel Only reason I do is because I grew up in Florida and I wondered the same before. Same as your Alaska and gold knowledge keeps me watching. One day I’ll do an Alaska gold trip. 😁
Put something like a time capsule inside the pontoon to be opened at a later date.
The sea can be your backup battery if you know which materials you can use for that, Cause there are solutions for that.Something like this ruclips.net/video/HGQHVc9z8yQ/видео.html.
Two part closed cell foam
Any bilge pump inside them in case of a leak
question..... theme tune is "Gold in these hills" but I dont see many hills?? :) :) ha bet that stumped you :):)
Vamos Emily a buscar oro
Wait, does Emily do cross country skiing / "Langlauf"? Or what are the boots for? - I think I heard she spent some time in Austria before, is that where she picked it up? Greetings from Munich, been watching the show from the beginning and always had a weird/secret crush on Emily... 😛
Build it like a tank! lol
So wish I could meet you n hang out with you someday 💗 yur so cool love yur show yur personality I live in California not where it's too cold that would be all new to me, love the scenery got alot to tell you Emily bout cool book bout gold and hope to meet yu and keep contact lots ❤️ love Jennifer p.s. also I like music I sing n make music too will write you soon
Salt water and aluminum= electrolysis.
They’ll get zincs
Thirsty thumbnail
awesome to see how far u've gotten from being with the loser pot-head Zeke and getting a little gold there with him.. to your success you have now madame... and you are gorgeous as usual... i wish you and your husband a good life together and your child ofc!
Not much work from Emily
WOW, I'M DISAPPOINTED. I THOUGHT EMILY WAS GETTING NEW PONTOONS. SHE NEEDS THEM, LOL.
