Prospecting (stealing?) gold on Alaska's largest dredge. | Behind the Dredge w Emily Riedel | Pt 15

- This week we go to Alaska's largest land gold dredge - Dredge 5 in Nome, Alaska - to see if we can find any remaining gold. Built in 1941 and operated by the Alaska Gold Company, this massive metal monument to mining has been gutted and cleaned since it stopped working over 20 years ago. Can we find some historical paydirt? Watch and find out.

Hi Emm, I think it's so awesome what you guys are doing by giving people a chance to pan some gold and share the experience. Thanks for all you do.
Thanks for supporting us Rick!!
I’m sure the local Nomeites were all over that dredge the minute the owners left town.
I’m amazed at what Tony Beets paid for those dredges. The were just rusting away and would have continued if he hadn’t come along. They should have paid him to haul it away.
This is great! Didn't realize you had your own personal Utube channel. I'm enjoying your adventures, keep it up!!
Thank you!

Great job! Interesting finds on the old Dredge! I had a Geologist friend that was working in back country Alaska in the the 1960's, he said they were working around abandoned dredges, so he'd just take some time and prospect that dredges, found lots of small gold that way! They hadn't even cleaned the sluices out when they walked away from them.
I'm sure there's more gold left behind out in these old Alaskan dredges than people know!
Thankyou for sharing your adventure with us !
Thanks for watching!
I'd get a small wet vac ( battery powered) and go there and get the dirt out of the really tight cracks all over that thing. I bet there's a shit ton of gold all over that thing.
P.S I've been watching Bering Sea Gold since it started and it's awesome the way you've evolved over the years. Congratulations on all your success and will continue watching all you guys videos. They're very interesting and informative. I like seeing people be who they're to a bigger degree.
Boy the dog is getting big😁 Great video and love that you found some flakes on there! Good luck with your paydirt and much love from California 🍻🍻⛏⛏
I know I'm starting to get back problems picking her up...thank you!
Some is always better than none that's why we do this. Hello from Queensland, Australia.
A simple truth in life. Hey Queensland!
Great to see another video from you both & the Puppy😁 Great piece of gold mining history! Looking forward to your new season on tv! Beat Wishes to all.
Thanks Robert! Glad you enjoyed it
Another interesting fact about those old dredges is the toss out anything bigger than 3 to 4 inches..so there could be large nuggets in the tailing piles
Watching Bearing sea gold i always root for you and Mr. Gold
Thanks B h!
You're welcome can't wait for a new season
I love that Shotty is literally sniffing out and shitting on the competition.
The Kelly’s are going to be over panning on dredge 5 after that last pan you got.
😂😂😂, No doubt!
You can bet her worthless dad Steve won't get off his ass to get any gold. Your great Emily.
Kelly’s are too busy fighting amongst themselves.
@@adzoutnabout8666 you are probably correct.
@@adzoutnabout8666 , very good point.
Brilliant fun and grate that you found some. Yes it’s probably been hammered and searched over the years but still you found some there. What a way to tread in the old timers footsteps
I just purchased one of your Bags of Dirt from the Bering Sea ... Gonna surprise my father with it ! ... Thanks for selling it !
Thanks so much for buying Z! I hope he loves it!
It would be nice it Alaska or the federal government would have grants available to protect and preserve the mining history. Here in Georgia everything was scrapped for world war two, rotted away or abandoned and not valued. We had an old diving bell that was finally pulled from the Chestatee River and put on display. It is funny walking in the woods and realizing the woods were once full of mining operations and prospectors, now that history is gone or has been put under a subdivision.
Have you both considered a guided gold tour on the dredge or other cool areas? Weather permitting obviously! All the best from over here in Maine
Was someone who went and scraped all the edges of the sluices on an old bucket line. They actually got a fair amount. Pretty cool you did that.
Thanks!
12 flakes!! You're already beating the Kellys!
Watching Tony Beets resurrection of his first dredge was interesting. Quite a machine. You have to have a large working capitol to get one up and running. They made/make decent money though it seems but the costs have to be staggering.
Nice adventure.
Do you have a large or early nugget you’ve saved which is special to you?
"Staggering" is a good assessment of the cost. If it all comes together perfectly - right mechanics, ground, and gold price - then I'm sure they're quite profitable. Not really! We don't get a lot of nuggets here and once you've seen a couple of "pickers" you've seen them all.
Omg I'm your 18,000 sub :D you guys are fun to watch
Emily plz Don't Rip People off with ur pay dirt like Gold rush did. I really like u and what u do.
Serious question. Can't you get two divers set up in the water at the same time and run double the material?
Very cool. That is what Tony Beets dredge is going to look like in a few more years if he doesn't get his water license back.
That's what they all look like eventually
Thats cool Emily! Out of all the miners in Nome I like and respect you the most! You are the most honest hardworking gal I know. Good luck to you!
Cool adventure,if I was allowed in Nome I would start at dredge 5 ,cleaning up the whole thing with a sluice ,then build a dredge with all that material from the mother ship and sail on down to da beach 👍
You got it all figured out!
Thank you for sharing your treasure hunting video. So awesome to see.
May God bless you and your's Amen
LOVE YOUR SHOW EMILY... edge of seat stuff lol.. leep it moving girl :)
Thanks JR
@@TheEmilyRiedel ya sure welcome emily... i'm a fan..can u tell? hahaha :)⛵
Excellent, seeding the gold back into the pond.. Blessings.
You both looked like you had great time.I will check bering sea paydirt your website. Tc and stay safe 🏴👍
Thank you and thanks for watching again!
I think Alaska should pass a law that requires anyone who mines for gold or any other mineral to clean up there trash and evacuate everything that they brought to a piece of property and leave it as clean as possible without any pollution. The land should be inspected after they leave and any offenses for not following the rules will been enforced through the justice system via Fines and levy. I see lots of videos of so much waste and pollution left behind and I don’t understand why the state doesn’t clamp down on it.
Lol exactly how my plans every day go hahaha 🤣
Thanks, Emily and Alex!
Thanks Robert for stopping by again!
Yay you
Rock! Welcome to

Sweet adventure well if there is gold there have to say you would find it your pup sure is growing thank u
You bet! thanks for watching
There used to be a plank walkway and a lot less water but that was in '19. I spent hours exploring that beast but didn't even think to bring a pan.
Love your pupper and your videos, lots of fun. (Tammy not Wyatt commenting, married 41 years, hope ya'll have many great years as we have)
Thanks Tammy we love her too! 41 is quite an accomplishment!
Dredge 5 was the second largest dredge in the world. The largest is in France I believe..also when they stopped dredging they cleaned the buckets ..got over 15 k at 35 an ounce out of it..
Just joined ur channel. Nothing like a day out just hanging. Priceless
That was a cool adventure thank you!!😎
Glad you enjoyed it Tony!
She is a great dog. Such a good girl for being so young.
Thank you for the videos 👍💙
You'd make more scrapping all that metal! 🤣
Hi Emily and new family. Nice to see u . Been watching your clips on the Tube. Nice to see just you and your adventures. Your one Bad Ass chick.🇨🇦
could have given those flakes to your Patrons. :P just an idea.
Next time!
Hello pretty lady I remember the first time watching you on Discovery on the first season of bering sea. Bless you and your boyfriend. 😍😍😍😍👏👏👏👏👏👏💪💪💪💪
Cool, having fun with the dog!!
🐶
Window on dredge was open
Pay 500 for bag of dirt and get 400 in return. It’s never about making money on dirt bags. It’s usually about the experience. So if you’re into losing money, go for it.
Arrrr claim jumper's dear better hand me the Hawkins this time. Long range shots are the best.
Tony Beets actually spent millions and got at least one of those dredges working for awhile. The crazy bastard got some gold from that old dredge but it seems that it was more work than it was worth and gave up.
I have stress dreams about trying to run one of these bucket dredges
His water license wasn't granted so everything came to a stop.
clearly you never continued to watch the show. Tony proved that the bucket-line gold dredges are the MOST efficient & cost effective way to placer mine for gold. he also NEVER gave up. his water license on his Indian River claims expired & wasnt renewed in time for the new season.
not even sure why you'd make such an asinine, ignorant comment from in ignorant point of view as you havent watched the show in its entirety.
Calm down. So perhaps I didn’t catch the whole story. I watched the recent show he still didn’t get his water license. So they sit idle again for another year plus. I am just pointing out it seems like an awful lot of work to get those things running. Besides he now invested in bigger equipment millions of more dollars he can’t use because of the water license thing.
Oh and I hate trolls like you that think they are know it alls. That’s probably why I rarely comment on you tube.
@@TheEmilyRiedel ha😅
Where did you pick up that beautiful saffron "beanie hat" ? Please ..I'm looking everywhere for one that colour...thanks man..
I assume you got permission from Bering Straits Native Corporation since they own the land.
If I'm correct, the Kelly's dredged that pond that season?
Good show.
I am surprised Tony B. Hasn’t bought that dredge 😂
Nice Emily..

Tip...Rechargeable batteries Amazon basics brand can save you money and time.
Pro tip!
Lol glad to see your not with that one dude from the show he def seemed like a serial killer!
Is that your son ? Thats so cute mother and son golding together ❤
Did your dad ever pay Vernon for that side-by-side?.. 😆
No clue!
are Canadians able to purchase the pay dirt? I just attempted to buy some and i was not able to change the country to Canada.
I'm sorry to hear that thanks for trying to pick one up! Getting shipping to Canada is high on our to-do list. Unfortunately we launched the website right before a good weather window - so it's all we can do to keep mining and get bags of dirt out the door. But during the next storm we'll try to get it worked out for y'all down there
I wish to go visit nome eventually
I am from India. I am enjoying your video.
Hey Samiran, shout out to India!
Does finding some gold make it worth living in a place that doesn't offer that much, far at the end of the earth? Honest question, not trying to be mean.
It's not stealing if they left it.
Please look after the puppy sooooo cute

how many flakes make a nugget? I think I might of saved them, work YES, but payoff might accumulate a bit faster???
14 is better than 83 boom!❤
I can imagine there is suspicion everywhere in Nome.🧐🥸🤥
What does he use those c batteries for?
I'm surprised Tony Beats doesn't parachute in declaring you cut him in.
So your selling dirt, must be easier than finding gold.
This makes her a claim jumper it may have been left behind but it still didn't belong to her trespassing and video is proof of crime
none of my biz, but are you and Zeke still friends?
Brings back memories of sniping the Chatanika dredge back in the late 80's. I swam out to it with a 5 gallon bucket, rope and pan. A day later I had over an ounce of the good stuff. Thanks for the memories.
That's awesome! Too bad it wasn't $1,750 an ozt back then!
No doubt...however that small grub stake helped us to locate ground paying a pound a week per man, all nuggets. Enjoy your channel;)
Shawty says it's just fun
Hi guys
Howdy
By the way, life is tough anywhere you live.. as you get older you will realize there are not too many things that are worth doing that are easy.
Great vid really enjoy your adventures
Thanks Fred for checking it out!
Love Ya Emily, that face like a supersonic jet fighter just gets to me.
Does anyone own that old dredge?
Stay safe! Luckily Alaskans won't shoot at you for trespassing...that's how it goes down in CA where I live net to BLM land, trespassing laws protect the shooters aiming at explorers on or near their land poking around in the old mines. Sadly a few kids have been shot but it's an effective method for them, at least you're safe on a boat.
Zeeks woman!
I ain't sayin he's a gold digger. But he ain't messin with no broke skipper.
😆
Well isn't this so cool to come across! Here before 5K Subscribers! Do more epic shit! If you are reading this Emily what is the Temperture?!!
