ag.onewheel G I have the older model that has the power button on the side, it is worse because you can accidentally turn the unit on or off by picking it up.
@OldPossum Me! Power button is my Sleep+hibernate button because it is much faster than (Fn + any Fx key) and I will never miss-click in dark room.

I have it and really i tried very hard to find any flow or anything at all on the bad side but nope, it is the perfect machine for everything i even game on it, buy it you will not regret it
Josh Small Thank you so much for this. ❤️
I love mine!
Missed the entire purpose of the gem cut design. After complaints from convertible users that the power button is always getting hit, turning the machine on in the bag (leaving you with a dead laptop) or off while using it in tablet mode, HP created a brilliant fix--put it on a corner cut at a 45 degree angle and it's not able to be easily hit in any mode. It's harder to hit BY DESIGN.
You should never be able to turn on a laptop while it's closed. If the power button is hit then it should go into sleep mode and retain the battery.
@@naxzed_it but some people, like me for instance, use a laptop with a monitor and therefore need the computer to be on with the screen closed.
..... are we creating problems that don't exist?
would you rather close your laptops before putting them in a bag or have a power button in an uncomfortable position? are you seriously gonna choose the latter?
Disagree with you on the power button placement. Whenever power buttons are on the side or front, i find that it's easy to accidentally press it when moving the laptop around. Putting it on the corner means that this will happen much less.

I have been a follower or LTT for 5 years now and I have enjoyed many of there videos, often agreeing with some of there opinions and buying products based on how well they have been reviewed on this channel. For once though I disagree.
I watched this review after having expressed interest in the laptop and was amazed as to how negative this review was in comparison to others. In the end I have bought this laptop (13 inch model) and I am thoroughly impressed at everything about this laptop.
The pixel response times aren't noticeable even when I tried a little gaming.
The power button is easily accessible and you can charge it in any one of the USB C ports
The included leather sleeve (amazing btw) has a slot for the pen.
Trackpad is amazing once you install windows precision drivers that is
I highly recommend this laptop for anyone who is looking for a powerful 2 in 1 - 13inch model especially!
Oli Williams is there usb c adapter in the box? or just regular DC adapter ?
I have the 2018 version, I love it. Most of the stuff here is super critical, I agree. The bezels are no issue (no shitty we can angle, windows hello, ultra thin on the sides, easy to hold in tablet mode), I have never noticed the trackpad issue (palm rejection is amazing), and holy crap the battery life.
I got the same laptop, but in 15” with the 120hz display. I to was thoroughly impressed. Power button is no problem and I ageee with what you say. LTT can be a bit too negative...
vitmenn comes with at usb a to c in the box.
Same here, awesome laptop, even if you don't like it a completely negative review doesn't make any sense as it's one of the best on the market right now!
I'm not an expert but I think the power button placement, wobbly screen and gigantic bezel would be attributed to it being a convertible laptop.
Power button placement = prevents accidentally pressing it on the edge while in tablet mode
Wobbly screen = less rigidity due to hinge being able to go 360
Gigantic bezel = so you have somewhere to hold if you fancy your self drawing the next Mona Lisa while
.
I guess its better to just focus on what you really are (a laptop) instead of trying to be something you are not (also a tablet)
I otherwise agree but I think 360's usually require more rigidity to work and stay in place with pen and touch in more positions while otherwise you might just want to have a screen that is easy to open with one hand. And my general understanding is that for this reason the 360's are usually much more rigid and you can't open most of them with one hand.
Surface book solved these in 2015
Power button: on the very top, where no one holds it
Wobbly screen: screen flips
Gigantic bezel: touch rejection when pen is in use
@@anna_arw6006 also costs a fortune if you live in Canada
@@malavpatel77 just sayin it's not a good excuse since all these issues have been tackled for ages. I don't think HP wanted to put the effort it for a couple more iterations and just said hell, this is good enough. Ship!
And also I really love my lenovo x380 yoga 2in1 and think it is somewhat close the perfect instance of an laptop for me to exist. In case of previous points I would say that
Power button placement = Newer had any problems.
Wobbly screen = No. it has the most rigid screen ever. Much more rigid than any non 2in1 I have seen. And I really like this.
Gigantic bezel = Newer thought it was big. It fits a full hd screen perfectly. And I think it is the best resolution currently.
I think, calling a notebook "Spectre" with an intel CPU is something odd...
Sharra Shimada The order of naming is the opposite. Maybe the name was a dig at HP.
Sharra Shimada it’s not the worst, The Spectre x2 from 5 years ago was the worst.
- usb ports constantly breaking
- inside batteries failing after 18 months
- spareparts the repair the crap taking 8/12 weeks to be delivered
- screen heavier then base causing the laptop to wheelie all the time
the Spectre line of HP laptops has existed for long before the Spectre and Meltdown flaws where found. I'm typing on one right now that existed before those vulnerabilities where found and it was a late year refresh of model and wasn't the first year of that model either.
Stop giving SPOILERS dude

Well i bought this laptop the 13in variant two weeks ago and i like it so far. Almost all the complaints linus made are exaggerated. The power button placement is convenient for no accidental presses during tablet or tent mode. The pen can stored in the sleeve that came with laptop. The trackpad is fine , I've actually installed the precision driver and found it to be skipping lots of presses, so i went to synaptics again (can you believe it?). The size of the keyboard is good even with the speakers on top. The bezels are there so you can hold it in tablet mode without accidental touches. The 16:9 ratio is standard, only surface and matebooks have 3:2. My only complains are the trackpad small rattle at the corners, and the sharp edges.
Edit 1: alot of people have been asking me , so I'll put my opinion after 1 years of usage.
I didn't experience overheating (idk about thermal throttle), but the case does get hot on your lab after a while.
The screen refresh rate never bothered me, but the brightness is bad for the price.
The laptop is good for light usage only. It's more form over function. Don't expect it to run crysis
The battery life held up quite good.
The laptop can only be charged by official HP charger, any other charger will not work.
All in all , I give it an 8/10 as a light office laptop.
It's main selling point is the 360 hinge which I didn't use much. Your better off with the xps if you want a no nonsense laptop. Touch screen is just not applicable for me in win10 devices
how's the overheating issue?
Exactly, the only other laptops i can find close to comparison spec for spec are the Dell XPS 15 and Surface Laptop and those are 20% more expensive, well out of my budget! I like the envy x360 version best though, better value.
What's your thoughts 3 months later? Im deciding between this or switching to apple
For 1200 is not good I think he means for all these little issues. For 1200 you can get better almost best technology available for that price
For the precision drivers, install the Lenovo precision synaptics then update it
I bought the 15t in Poseidon Blue even after watching cuz every negative mentioned are features I don't use (games & touch pad). The on/off button is resolved by using your LEFT hand (not reaching diagonally across keyboard with your right). HP has a Labor Day sale and I saved $400!
For once I disagree with Linus. I have the 13" version and I love it. No problems at all. You can easily install MS Precision drivers to the trackpad and problem solved!
I have one and I love it.
How do you do that?
Are there any issues with installing MS precision?
I actually get pissed off at this review. Those dead zones in the trackpad do not exist. Watching this review almost made me change my decision on saving up for this laptop and I thought I would have to look at another option. It shook my confidence in this laptop and broke my heart because I could not find a 15 inch 2 in 1 laptop with the dedicated graphics and a full sized keyboard. Everything else I looked at I was sacrificing at least one item on my spec list if I looked anywhere else. I actually had to go to bestbuy and test out the trackpad myself. While I can't say anything about them using Synaptic drivers in the trackpad, those dead zones he saw were not there. I got my HP Specter a week and a half ago and it is probably the best piece of technology I've had.
@@lunabright94 Literally went to a Best Buy after this to give it a shot (and to test the trackpad issues Linus mentioned)

I mean... thats the point. He was showing how using synaptics drivers didnt work well in either case. In stead of critizing Linus, you should be critizing HP.
@Bukan Vanessa Angel well no. Synaptics still exist because companies like hp still use it. So I wouldnt blame synaptics for existing when other companies fuel its existence.
@@iosonoi.7132 example :
Don't hate school shootings, hate people who allow guns to be legal and fuel private gun existance .
@@ahair326 well if you want to get technical:
should we blame synaptics or others who use it? Either one is valid. But which one is true? This is answered by (our capitalism) economic principles: essentially, if there is purchases, then there is demand. So synaptics is at no fault for continuing to make it. In your example: should we blame hate school shootings, or the people who allow guns to be legal and fuel private gun existence? Either one is valid, but which one is true? This is answered by legal framework and inspiration of the 2nd Amendment: hate school shootings, not the those who allow guns to be legal. What does it mean to hate school shootings? This is very vague because the design of your own argument is vague. lol
I mean...that's the point though. It sucks when it's on and it sucks when it's off. Which means it just sucks. The fact that Apple, for all their faults, has had industry leading trackpads for literally a decade at this point and nobody else seems to consistently come even close is just embarrassing. How has nobody else been able to get it right in all that time? And worse, fail so clearly as in this case? There is demonstrably more dead space than usable space in the default config shown here; that's straight up bad. They clearly assume all movements are starting in the middle and moving outwards, hiding the frankly _massive_ dead zone.

I bought the 15" last year, and have never had a better laptop (I've had many, from all the major vendors, both for work and privately). I never noticed the touch pad issue he mentions, probably because I just use it differently. The power button is a non-issue, I was actually super happy to see the placement. Then again, I am left handed. Also, mine came with the privacy screen feature, and judging from what I can see in this video, Fn+F1 on their keyboard has that same option available. Not sure how they would have missed that. My only issue with this laptop was that the function keys defaulted to the fancy functions instead of regular F keys, this was easily changed in the BIOS setup.

How about comparison of some 'pro' laptops? Like Lenovo ThinkPad, Dell Latitiude, HP EliteBook
If you want a pen, there's the X380 Yoga, which, while thick, has a pen holder built in, and is pretty well built
Elitebook is best always has been there no reason to do a comparison.
I have the x360 1030 g3 and the pens magnetic holder is awsome
Here's the deal: You're 100% spot on. These "spectre" line laptops are consumer grade crap. I build/deploy/support around 2800 endpoints in an enterprise environment where we recently (within the last year) started buying the Elitebook 1030 x360's along with the zbook Studio x360 g5. They're absolutely fantastic, solid, reliable computers. Do they have occasional issues? Yep, but they're otherwise fantastic. Worst computers I've ever deployed? Surface pros and surface books. 100% hot garbage.
They can fail even worse... I ordered 53 HP Elitebook 850 G5 laptops. They delivered 20 with the correct Belgian keyboard and 33 with an Italian keyboard and powerplug.
MaXtor Abonnementen why tf did you buy 53?????????
Rydoge 21 resell probably
Wait, Belgium and Italy do not follow the euro-plug standard?
Since you probably ordered those for your IT department, I suppose you could always contact HP and request proper replacements.
@@rydoge21 business laptops?
Rydoge 21 - we have a company with over 450 employees. And for those 53, the carepack on their old devices ended + the old devices run Win7 - and as you know. Next year no more Win7 support. So devices are End-of-Life.
Linus, was the 15" version you used the one with the FHD display, or the UHD display?
Can you please do a review on hp envy x360 2019model?
360P squad. ill wait a bit for youtube to render the vid
2p minutes later and it's still 360p
yes
I have the 15inch and honestly have never enjoyed a laptop this much. I came away a bit puzzled because after the review I checked the issues you were mentioning and in my 3 months with this machine I've never noticed the screen retention or trackpad issues but they are indeed present in direct comparison. The 15inch XPS I had before was plagued with much more stuff that annoyed me (which for some reason gets very positive reviews everywhere). Nevertheless nice that you came around to reviewing this
I have the 2018 "15 version and I love it, but knew the screen wobble wasn't the best, and definitely know the trackpad sucks lol... The bezels only bother me when I try to use it in tablet mode to read music because it's not the same width as a sheet of paper when it ABSOLUTELY could've been from these freaking bezels.
How is thermals because I have a dell 3 times as thick with same cpu and better gpu and thermals aren’t as good
I noticed the screen wobble too but you can just download the windows precision drivers and it fixes the trackpad super easy
@@minecraftmaster909 really good, you can push it and it'll play newer AAA titles at like medium or low settings around 1080p with decent frames.
Hey Linus, I guess now we do have a redesign of the 13" spectre right here in 2019. Would you do a review/opinions on that one, the Dragonfly and the Blade Stealth with the GTX?
10:03 - damn that dead zone shit makes me appreciate my 2015 macbook - no issues - no dead zones - immediate response anywhere in the trackpad
If I compare the screen and keyboard than Apple is also a winner in that segment imo
I own this laptop, and you can install precision drivers that make this trackpad literally infinitely better
David Li still an ugly screen, I can’t stare at that whole day.
I think it looks better in person
@@MrFijiBoySako What.. It's 4K.
Again its a beautiful design, I’m just talking about the bezel. Specially when your devices are ultra slim it doesn’t match the aesthetics. Try searching for Lenovo S940, now that’s where I see future aesthetic design.
@@MrFijiBoySako Fair enough, but I wouldn't recommend getting a 2-in-1 in that case. The thick top and bottom bezels are massively helpful when using the device in tablet mode, giving you an area that you can firmly grip without worrying about touching the screen itself. If you had slim bezels all around you'd either have to cradle it around the back, or try to get a pinch grip on the tiny bezels, which isn't comfortable or safe, and puts a point load on the chassis, vs. spreading the load out a bit.
As someone who has loved using W8 and W10 2-in-1 computers for a good 5 years now, despite how it may look aesthetically, not having those bezels would be a big downside for me, and the unit would have to truly amazing in other ways to make up for it.
I have the 13'' and I'll add my bit to Linus' experience. He is pretty much spot on for most things, but I did find that he was pretty harsh on certain details that really do not matter. For example, the power button is in the corner for ease of access, and it is really easy to reach at all times, I have never struggled to press it.
Also, the fingerprint sensor is on the palm rest area because users complained about it being on the side in earlier generations. That being said, the location is decent in my opinion, but the real problem is its accuracy. I usually have to press and lift my finger 2-3 times every time I want to unlock, and each reading itself takes probably half a second to a full second, making it noticeably slow and/or inaccurate.
The synaptics trackpad is bad with the synaptics driver, but after spending a couple of hours, I found a way to install precision drivers and it instantly becomes a GREAT trackpad.
Honestly, I was hesitating between the HP and a surface pro, but the lack of USB-C or thunderbolt 3 made me go the HP way. The build quality is not as good, but at least you get better specs and a cheaper price.
If only HP can have ''slightly'' better build quality, currently, buying HP, EVEN if I crack their laptop open manually and look at the thermal myself, some machine just simply dead on arrival, or dead in a week/month, my last gaming laptop is DOA, then Dead in 2 month, at least HP are replacing them, I guess?
wich driver did you use?
@@Verpal Yes they do have a problem with quality control too, especially for the Spectre x360 many people complained about the hinge not being straight, some laptops arriving with dents already... but I haven't heard yet about a laptop being dead on arrival.
@@AAntoine Well, guess it is just my model? It can't be just me right???
I have last year's Spectre x360 15"... yes the power button on the side wasn't the best choice, and I like where it is now.
The fingerprint sensor as well, I also believe Linus is completely wrong when he talked about the placement, the sensor on this thing is terrible on placement, but when I actually do find it, it works for me about 90% of the time.
I also got the precision drivers going on this puppy, and it's a beautiful trackpad after that correction.
Overall... beautiful and very functional laptop. I use it at work as an IT guy for a school district, gets thrown around a little more than i'd hope, and it still chugs along just fine.
"The aluminum chassis is rigid, but not-
STAA!!"
I was considering this as a gift. I went into 3 different shops, and tried the trackpad. AND NONE of them had the issues you mentioned. ZERO dead real estate.
Or maybe they configured Microsoft Precision. Who knows. But no trackpad issues.
Love the sponsorship transition...that 1-2 second awkward silence 😂😂❤️
Yeah, except I skipped at “Talking of plugging in...” :p
"better than an msi notebook", i laughed and cried a bit as the hinge of my msi gave out after a mere year of use.
Yeah, i know that.
My first laptop was a msi "gaming" laptop.
I literally felt like I burnt 1000€.
I was 12 years old.
I safed up over 2 years for that Laptop.
I was young and naive.
Keep making these honest reviews they are great.
These companies charging us $1500+ for a laptop and just producing trash.
You might just say the palm rest is the bleeding edge of technology! (I'll let myself out...)
I actually have a Spectre x360 13" (2017 I believe) and except from the screen wobble everything is fine and also it didn't come with the synaptics drivers.
So is the touchpad thing no longer an issue?
@@jel1951 I have the 2015 and the dead zone is real, but I've never noticed it to be a problem unless you're comparing to something with a great trackpad like a Mac.
It did come with Synaptics Drivers. No HP laptop has ever used Windows Precision, especially not the Spectre and Envy. They will be bringing MS precision with the new Envy laptops with wood grain trackpads.
Lenovo has the privacy screen switching. "Thinkpad Privacy Guard". It works REALLY well.
Did ltt ever review the thinkpad x1 yogas?
@@vnyggi621 LTT never reviews anything Lenovo Thinkpad
@@vukos that's a shame. Their budget lines are appealing for uni students, I'm quite happy with my l380 yoga
this is technically just dimming the display
I have the Envy 13" X360 Ryzen 5 2018 and i JUST noticed the touchpad thing, thanks to your video Linus....thanks, i guess...
I dont have the power button location problem though...
Sadly, Windows precision drivers used to work perfectly until the October Windows update broke them for whatever reason.
I have the same power botton on my ENVY. Button should be drawned because it is really hard to use the convertible mode: too often I suddenly press this button and the device just turns off((
@@Collide44 - What is "drawned"? I have no idea, literally. I suspect it's a misspelling, but my brain is not finding a close match.
Does anyone know if the screen response time is fixable or could be fixed with updates??
Pretty sure his model is broken
Linus your point of no Digital Pen clip is invalid... in the box you get a slip cover that has a spot for the pen...
This
Linus doesn’t really use the stuff he reviews. He is a faker. Half the time all he does is read scripts when in reality it’s Alex’a point of view and review not Linus.
@@sandi260 he's a robot!
@@kegangardner2277 He doesn't write the reviews though.....
He complained when it had a holder, he complains when it doesn't....he's just a bitch.
360p shot with a 8k camera, double-double-double-double-sampling, this qualitity is the most crisp 360p i have ever watched
FU YT
I have no idea what he's talking about, mine is literally the best laptop I've ever used.
Hp spectre 360 u are using????i need honest review about thattt
I’m using the hp envy x360 from 2017 and it’s also one of my fav laptops
Ikr!
@@Mahnoornadeemm the HP spectre is a light and fast working laptop, it has a lot of memory and it has a long battery life. It’s touch screen works great! It’s not to small or big and it’s great to work with, I recommend to use this for school.
Just bought this laptop and then watched the review. I can confirm that the track pad no longer has that 2.5cm dead zone. It is now more like a cm and becomes active once the mouse is moving. Love the power button placement imo.
I have the EliteBook version of the 13" one (1020 g2) and the pen magnetically "sticks" to the back of the screen.
Hey Linus, I love your videos.
Will you ever consider a Thinkpad P1?
I have 2017 x1 carbon
What about baldis basics thinkpad?
Notice that none of the replies above contributes to the original comment (including this one)
Lenovo makes some great laptops, strange they don't take them into consideration
@LTT, No love for Thinkpad? :-(
Could you guys clarify when you're using USD vs CAD? Sometimes you do but when you don't I just get confused
Build in privacy filter? T480S, T490, T490S,X1 Yoga, X1 Carbon.. Not unique to HP since 2018.
well, I'll come later for 1080p. see you soon
Omega lol
Come baaack!
I'll come back later for 4K
there is not even 2k yet
You could also try the ThinkPad x1 carbon. It is super light has decent battery life, is user servicable to an extend and has a real strong keyboard.
And The X1E against the x360 15" for the performance.
Oh yes, after using a ThinkPad, every other keyboard feels low rent.
I have a 13" xp360 (4k,i7,16gb) and am not experiencing the deadzone issues as you mentioned in the video.
AWSim how much keyboard flex do you get?
@@axellepatriadi5162 barely any, only if I really try to see if there is flex then i'll see it. But for everyday use, there's none
Does yours get very hot while in use, I have one spec’d out just like yours and mine gets blazing hot sometimes
Would you rather recommend the Asus Zenbook 14 UX433FA? I mainly use my pc for researching, writing and browsing, and now and then movie watching. I also travel a lot, so I would really wish the device to be as light as it can (including the charger). Looking forward to your opinion!!
Please do a review on the new Asus FX505DY, which has AMD Ryzen 5 3550H and AMD Radeon RX560X
thatd be super interesting to see
Wow I’m going to look that one up. Haven’t heard of it yet.
an RX560, interesting GPU choice
@@NonsensicalSpudz the 3550H is basically same as a 7700hq sadly, it might even be as good as the 8350H. a 560 is somewhere around a 1050 isnt it? i guess thats balance
Brad Haines RX 560X is better than GTX 1050 and a little bit worse than the GTX 1050ti
I like the cursor at the end
Is that a test for April first?
The extra input lag and display trails are quite strange - if these have HP SureView Gen 2, wouldn't these be 120Hz panels?
I love the snippet of iJustine "Screenshot? Oh, you're in trouble"
Honestly I have one (13 inch) and it's a very good laptop, trackpad wasn't that bad but after switching to windows precision drivers (literally 2 minutes) works flawlessly. Battery life is awesome, performance is amazing, keyboard is perfect, there's so many things going on for this laptop. Besides this is the only negative review on the web, and for a good reason: it's a very good product! Don't understand the negative tone on this review even for things like the placement of the power button that's been praised literally by everyone (me included, it's awesome!). Perfect? Maybe not, but this video surely is not objective or fair!
I have the older generation and I agree with everything you said.
Speaking of which, why haven’t you guys done the new dell XPS?
got the 2018 model on ebay for 580. With that deal, its worth while. manufacturer refurb but havent had any issues
I recently bought the hp Spectre x360 and with extended use I became aware of the bottom of the laptop getting hot. To combat that problem I bought a cheap laptop cooling pad, and it works like a charm to keep the laptop cool
do the lenovo thinkpad x1 tablet gen3, direct competitor to surface and this.
The EliteBook x360 uses a magnet on the side to retain the pen. Works quite well tbh.
Forgot to mention the motherboard power rail failure that has plagued the Spectre's since inception in 2015. Oh and the fact that after heavy use for a year or two the screens have more stuck pixels than an early 2000's LCD TV.
My Mum loves her new Spectre and I love gaming on it in her motorhome on the weekends :D
Plebs watching in 360p, I am soaking in the glory of 480p! You can barely see the artifacts!
well my convertable's trackpad (that i disabled in windows)
always from no where it starts glitching
My 7th Gen HP Envy (non x360) has smaller bezels than this laptop but I feel like they kept larger bezels for ergonomic reasons since it's a convertible laptop?
I had the original release of the x360 13", it had:
-Interference between the USB 3.0 and bluetooth cards internally, causing USB 3.0 misbehaving with external HDDs and mice (unusable), and horribly jittery bluetooth connections with audio.
-Ghost touches on the display like crazy! Driver update HP released caused the screen to be much less responsive to "fix" the problem. Disabled the touchscreen permanently.
-Fan that screamed under any medium/high load.
-Unreliable audio jack recognition of headphones/mics plugged in.
-Hinges that racked and was obvious that the lid didn't line up with the body when closed.
-Crappy audio (expected but heavily oversold).
So yeah, that was my first and last high-end HP laptop, I'm off to Lenovo and not regretting a thing. Running a Lenovo Yoga 730 15"
After seeing James with just a blanket, I can say that he is now my favorite employee. Alex is next on the list.
Lenovo thinkpad has the option for privacy guard display.
Did he review the same one being released Nov 7, 2019?
no since that one has 1650 and i7 9750H
My trackpad is totally fine and responsive, writing from a 15".
Could you do a review on the Huawei matebooks?
Who else has playback issues?
it's Only working in 360p.
You must be new here.
This has been a recurring issue, (although as far as I can tell it has been a while since the last time this happened) we just need to wait for RUclips's slow transcode servers....
it's clear you never uploaded a video to RUclips
Love the look of the spectre's but I've learned from the past, HP consumer laptops have always left me disappointed. I've had two with the power supplies going out a few months after owning the laptop. If you want HP go with their zbook line
in most cases Trackpad/Touchpad Device are under Mfr of Synaptics Pointing Device it only differs was the Driver will it work properly if i replace with W Precision Driver🤔 I use old model MSiSuck which it moves cursor pointing clicking by itself when turned on😓
