  • We have too many games!
What is too many you ask? Well, it's not really a number, but more of a volume.
When therer are games on the floor of multiple rooms in your house, you might have too many games.
With so many new games coming in, and a new year beginning, we wanted to take a good hard look on our shelves. Take a look at games we kept after reviewing them, and games that we had decided to keep in Keep or Cull, but with a few months on the shelf, now decided we didn't HAVE to own.
It's a hard balance, but we have maxed out the space we want to use for board games, so some have to go!
    Hope you'll enjoy!

Spirit Island!? Spirit. Island. Speechless. < walks away shaking head >

I’m surprised by Spirit Island. Generally I don’t like full co-op (semi can be ok), yet somehow Spirit Island is my #1 game of all time…would never consider parting with it, and I’m over 1,300 plays just on the app, let alone how many times I’ve played it in person.

So many games for so many tastes. I'd never get rid of it either but I understand that for some its just not their thing. I am hoping that when I meet the next gamer that demands I play Twilight Imperium that they'll understand too when I say I'd rather go to work.

"Walking Rumour" makes sense when you understand that Telestrations is based off of the "telephone" game. In this game (or more like childhood lesson), someone tells someone a story/rumour/gossip secretly and each person tells the next person until it gets back around. Then you compare the original to the final version and realize that people don't tell accurate stories.

Oh yes! We played it a lot as kids. We call it "the whisper game" here in Norway, and it's often used by adults to make kids quiet for a little while :P

The truck with Ryktet Gar is to be very specific about what you think the drawing might be and don’t go obvious when you draw so there are more mistakes and more fun… group dependent “game” but shocked to see it on the cull pile.

So many heavyweights! It's great to see there are no "sacred cows", so to speak, and that people aren't afraid of culling games (regardless of the general opinion about them) if they don't think they are a good fit for themselves.

I'd love to see your shelf and have you list why you've kept certain games!
Idk if you have this word but we would call Aeon Trespass Odyssey a 'lifestyle' game. Any game that needs to be THE game you play for a long time to get super into it. Like Warhammer, Magic the Gathering, etc.
It's personally my favourite game of all time ATM but it is stressful to think that if we take a break and play other games for a bit, we might forget everything and need to essentially restart :S

I understand you perfectly. I just culled Firenze, Five Tribes, Bad Company and Ticket to Ride US, not because I don't like them anymore, they are good games, but I like others more; time and space are limited so I have to prioritize. Plus, my taste in gaming has changed over time too (dare I say, evolved?...)

To add to your arsenal of things to say when you like a game but want to cull it: "It's not you, it's me."
It doesn't make the breakup any easier...but Spirit Island will just have to move on...

I fully agree with your assessment of Red Rising… but… I play a lot of solo games. Fantasy Realms is one of my all time favorite games to play. Filler, beginning of a gaming day, end of a gaming day, multiple times in a row… LOVE Fantasy Realms! But it cannot be played solo, therefore Red Rising scratches that itch when no one else is around. I have since read the 3 books the game is based on so it is even more fun to play. That being said, I would never pick Red Rising over Fantasy Realms if others are around to play games.

Merchants Cove fun? Great? This goes down as one of THE worst games I've ever played. Zero decisions to be made, so complex for such a light game, eugh.
Sorry, have to get that off my chest every time somebody says anything good about it 😅

Somewhat similarly, I need to send a game out to bring a new one in. But I like coop games just as much as I like competitive, and Spirit Island is my favorite game (Gaia Project is my #2, ha ha). No objections to the rest of the list. Everdell is heading out for me, too. Solid but . . . too many games.

We are doing our own "keep or cull" in 2024 and I'm sure there will be some good games that will go, but if there are other games taunting you from the shelves that you want to play more, why keep something that's just not going to be picked over other games. Of course we'd all love to keep all the games, but realistically, few of us have unlimited and growing space to keep them all!

Telestrations not being fun is the most outrageous thing I’ve ever heard from a board game channel. If you said it’s an activity instead of a game I would agree. But not fun?!?! Wow
I just got a second hand copy of whistle mountain for a good price. Haven’t been able to play it yet.
I think I’ll play my Kingdom Rush app this afternoon.
