If you torque pentastar heads down using these factory instructions, you will more than likely strip the aluminum threads out of a used (and probably over heated) block. I torque them in sequence to 30lbs. then 60 lbs. then finally to 110 lbs. and that's it! Haven't had any issues since I started doing this a few years ago. I love these engines because they make me a ton of money and their easy to work on. I don't work for a dealership. I'm strictly an independent small shop and I work on everything. In my opinion, the 3.2 if far better than the 3.6! How many 3.2 pentastars have you seen with head gasket issues?

None really. Curious as to why you think those specs are high? I agree, its a lil over kill but do you think they would give us bad specs or specs that will cause a failure?

@@OnlineMechanicTips I've used the factory specs only to have to put thread inserts in many holes. Very time consuming and expensive. Old timer from Benson Chrysler in Greer SC showed me how he does them. Neither him or myself have had issues since with thread pull out. Even with gen 3 Pentastars. In my very humble opinion, a V8 version pentastar should have been the replacement for the Hemi rather than the Hurricane!

You did not check the bolts and you was not not given the O.K. to replace the bolts. We can blame and point fingers. Not checking and or replacing head bolts was wrong. Customer should have been consulted or the job should have come with new head bolts anyway from the parts supplier.

I'm not sure how long you've worked on cars but for the record, a lot of "must do's" are simply over kill. You very adamant about those bolts being replaced but let me say this. Over 2 decades and I can't ever remember a time that I've replaced head bolts. A quick glance at them and they get re- used. Never had a problem. Some people just think entirely to hard. But I would say, if it gives you a piece of mind to go ahead and do it.

It takes just as long to put in new head bolts as checking old used head bolts. Aye, I get it a situational call.

@TXFarmRoad Exactly, over 10 million on the road. A 1% failure rate will definitely feel like a lot. Nobody talks about the other 90 something percentage that's ok.
