    I'd probably try the usual first but if it was a dead miss and you could hear it when it cranks then it would have to have a compression test on all cylinders or the one you know has the miss.
    I had to do similar when I did the belt on the Neon. I even cranked it around twice to make sure it stayed on the marks then started it with the front of the engine off to make sure it ran ok before I put everything back together.

    • @OnlineMechanicTips
      @OnlineMechanicTips  2 года назад

      The 4 cylinder engines extremely easy to do. I do this test on every tune first. That Neon should hang a round for awhile

      @@OnlineMechanicTips That's the one I had since 2005. I should have done the tensioner and idler wheel but I broke so I only replaced what was bad at the time. It locked up the tensioner idler setup and took out the belt with only 35k on the belt so I gave up and got the RT Charger. It had almost 190k on it and still ran great. It had bad paint and the drivers door hinge mounting point and the door got damaged and I could never get the replacement door right so figured wasn't worth fixing again considering it probably needed a head rebuild or new head. If it had been nice I probably would have put a pt 2.4 or a turbo 2.4 in it.

      Sorry to say it but yes. I pretty much knew what I would see when I removed the head. I think this was a 2015 model. I was told this problem was corrected with the bash of engines that was built after 2015. There was an extended warranty extension on all the 2011-2013 models for this problem. They extended the warranty to 150k miles. But likely all those year models are over the 150k mile mark. Its still a low % rate of them that will have this issue tho. And its always on bank 2..smh

    Great insight. So, I'm one of those (as you mentioned around the 2:15 mark) that has been replacing everything (plug, coil, injector) while chasing a P0303 code. Even though I didn't hear any bad ticking, I came to the conclusion that it was probably a rocker or two. Well, after removing the valve cover, the rockers and cam lobes are pristine! BTW, I have a 2014 Jeep Cherokee 3.2l with 220k miles. I guess I need to do a compression check. Do you have a video showing how to do that on my engine?

    My wifes 2018 with 80k (Grand Cherokee). Notice a rough idle with no cel. Find leaking from bank 2 valve cover gasket area all around. Week later get a p2098/P0157P300/P0174. Change the rear bank 2 02, as it was bad as well as the pcv, cleaned the oil and added die. WIth a proper scan tool i see the bank 2 intake cam is 3-4 degrees retarded at idle. Run the cam phaser cleaning process on the scan tool and now it runs slightly better but p2098/p0174 return. It shakes like a crazy at idle but doesnt flash the cel as before and has no misfire code. The strangest thing out of all this is the oil is clean, still changed it and checked filter which is clean and the engine makes ZERO top end noise. No ticks or anything. So im at the edge of my driveway diag borrowing a scan tool trying to figure out the next step. Its going to go to a proper mechanic after the holidays but the timing sucks. Any idea if im looking at interal phaser/cam issue? Trying to avoid a top end tear down and would hope a 2018 at 80k wouldnt need it already but Pentastars.... 3/10 are shitbox's if not more. Some are shit and some going 300k without issues, odd. Thanks for your time.

    Nice vid JT. I have a 2013 grand caravan. When I’m idling/parked for more than 5 mins the temp creeps up to a little before 3/4 on the gauge. It also tends to smell like coolant as well when this is happening. I’m having a rough idle, but no check engine light. I replaced thermostat, and the oil cooler with mopar parts. There’s no Leaks that I can see but the engine bay smells like coolant when I drive. Every 1-2 weeks I have to fill the reservoir, as it’s at or below the minimum line. What would you think this is? @OnlineMechanicTips The new parts will fail again later. It's a poor design flaw. Chrysler continues to deny 3.6 cases and many others. 2021, 2022 2023 nice new cars, same problem in the dealership. I worked there many years, but when you only get paid 4.6 hours to tear apart motors, it wears you out fast.

      @user-ju8rr9rf1o Its not a poor design, just terrible vendors where used to supply important parts. Your argument of failing again could apply to any part on any car. Im in the field, I don't see repeated failures. I'm sorry you had a bad experience with one and I hope they help you get it right. But the numbers don't add up. There's over 11 million of these engine out in cars being driven. It's only maybe 1 to 2% that exhibit problems. That feels like a lot because there's a lot out there.

Use a jumper wire and jump 12 volts to pin 87 of the starter relay. It t should spin over, if it dont that circuit open. But first see if the relay click when you attempt starting

      @@OnlineMechanicTips thanks for reaching back out 💯 actually my mechanic jumped that 87 pin and the starter did spin over. So I’m thinking more so of the circuit being open. What could be the fix if my hypothesis is right ?

    Hey jt can you tell me which plug is the number 3 on a 2011 ford taurus. And can I just change only the one coil that has a misfire or do I have the change all of them.

      Hey Bud, is this a 4 banger or a V6? And also, no need to replace all the coils if you have a single cylinder misfire

      @Leroy King. V6 transverse mounted car for fwd... #3 is in the back center. U can just change the one coil but you might be chasing ghost. Worth a shot in my opinion.

    Hello sir, I have a P0305 misfire code. Replaced the plug and pack with OE for the pack and NGK for the plug. Still getting a misfire. Also engine runs really rough sometimes on cold startup and then settles out but still slightly rough at idle. 3.6L Pentastar in a 2017 Pacifica. Also replaced the cam shaft sensor. Any tips or advice? Taking it to the Chrysler Dealership Friday.

      @@chazbchaz5036 I'd see if you can get a remanufactured engine for your year. Unfortunately for me, hardly no one makes a remanufactured Generation 3 pentastar and the company I found that does charges just as much as a new one. But if you are keeping the vehicle it's probably your best option if you have a blown head gasket. OR you could replace the head and put a new gasket in your original motor. If you do that though depending on how bad the lower block has had coolant in it, you could be facing bearing failure down the road. Of you caught it early enough maybe not and if your block is not warped you may be OK. Safest option is total engine replacement but that can be a big expense.

    I cringe watching you place the lifters and rock arms in whatever order; I bought a very expensive tray from Amazon to keep em organized and in order, well, yes, I am not a mechanic at all; took apart my 3.6 pentastar due to hydro lock, just got to the block few mins ago and found number 2 connecting rod bent the hell out of it and are praying the damage did not crack the block or the heads; would have to send it for inspections but everything looks clean and shinny, cams, crankshaft, bearings, surfaces, no signs of significant wear; this engine has about 68k miles on it and I do keep my synthetic oil changes on points, the van has Mopar lifetime warranty but the fuckers did not covered the hydro lock; dealer repair price was 13k so nobody wanted to cover which is why I am doing it, learning, cussing up and destroying my body in the process as the whole thing had to come off the van as crank would not spin, only once I got it suspended in a hoist and with a very large cheater bar I managed to spin the engine to separate the torque converter, that was after had to pull the engine with tranny attached out, at some point it busted a hook point and fell but no damage luckily; I mean the whole thing have been a bitch to endure but I am half way now, just been expending close to 2k in parts so far from rock auto for replacements; trying to stay with the factory parts as much as possible can as to keep that Mopar warranty, but came here to learn how to take the valves apart, need to strip the heads for inspection/ cleaning/ rectifying, if needed same with the block; I do not see any cracks evident so far but I can not see the one you are pointing in the video either so that is that; I need more expert tests on it. Thanks for the video!
