Nice video. I was hoping to maybe see you play at the ITF Senior at Harpenden this week but unfortunately had to withdraw from them 50s men’s singles due to illness. Good luck in the tournament.
Very interesting video. It would be also very interesting if you analyse the Big Mac return of serve and his high abilitiy to attack the serve of his opponent. I think no one was quicker to react and no one had such an stunning touch (not even Roger Federer).
Just watched Djoko’s return slowmo’s over and over again and actually he knows where the ball is coming before he’s in the air, before his splitstep. Look at the slowmo video… at the start of his movement he lifts up the foot (before the splitstep) on the side where the ball is coming. So he lifts up his left foot to start his backhand return and the right foot when he starts his forehand movement. So his splitstep jump is towards the good direction allready. He just reads his opponent perfectly. Do you agree Simon?
Awesome video Simon. Very helpful! Would you please give some advice on how to deal with a situation during a mxd match that the male opponent keep hitting high/deep/lob ball to my female partner, eventually grinded her down and I feel helpless standing in front of the net? I’m a decent net player. what should I do differently to turn things around? Thx
How about body serve return? Also do you have footage of his eye focus routine 10 seconds before. Looking up down, up,. Is it wide focus or close focus. Anyone seen that. I heard wide focus ( so not watching directly seeing object, bqll in this case, has 4 faster neutral pathway and could be more appropriate than have ball i direct focus). Any thoughts, experiments?
We cover the body return inside our return course on our website. As for the eyes, I suspect he’s using a zoom in, zoom out technique and widening the eyes so he can focus on seeing it better. That’s a very advanced skill that many players don’t need unless you’re facing 140mph serves
@@TopTennisTrainingOfficial thanks. Make sense you didn't cover it since yeah under 140 miles it is not to useful. will keep it in mind if headwind helps server to reach that speed. But usually that kind of wind gets women name, and return to house should be my main return to focus on :)
@@donadu76 wide focus is panoramic viewing without focus on one specific object. Widening eyes was my way of saying lifting eyelids all the way. ( Eng is not my first language,) hope it helps. You can see he does some ritual with it
What I am very curious about is what you make of his habit of staring at something close to him, then at the direction of the server and then close to him again several times prior to every serve he receives. I feel he doesnt just do this by chance and that there is a reason behind it. My theory is he does it to accomodate his eyes to focus on the incoming ball that is obviously first quite far away and then needs to be tracked and focused very quickly when it is close. By already doing this ‘eye exercise’ prior to the serve this may help with getting the ball in focus just slightly quicker? Allowing for a more clean contactpoint. Be interesting to hear the opinion of a (sports)optometrist on this. Nice vid btw 👍
@@TopTennisTrainingOfficial interesting! is there focus on this in high level tennis training? See mostly baseball videos on it on RUclips. Similar with left/right eye dominance and how it affects stances/types of strokes. Feel there's not a lot of emphasis on it but what do i know :D
Agassi was definitely up there too. I think Novak is more agile and has better movement off the return, but Agassi dealt with Sampras’ serve pretty well
And many other players said Djokovic is the best. Federer wouldn’t admit that Djokovic is the best returner, it would hurt him too much. Ferrer is a great returner, but Djokovic’s returns are legendary
And Federer like any other player can Say some bs cause theres ego in check, maybe Ferrer Return it's more important to him being a more límited player compared to Novak (Ferrer had average serve, bh and net Game, his fh was great and movement top notch, bit novak has all of that and better serve, fh, backhand, net Game and of course RETURN

Is Djokovic the greatest returner of all time?
Andre Agassi?
Yes.
Absolutely
Yes
Yes.
GOAT returner
👀
Great analysis definitely didn't know you could do the jump and the turn in one (1) move, will try it for sure. Thanks coach.
Good luck with the improvements 👍
Yes Novak is the greatest returner none before none after
I agree, the greatest. Before him was Nalbandian...

Thank you Simon!
Thanks for watching Adrian 👍
Great video - Djokovic
Thanks
Very good!
Thanks a lot !
Thanks for watching 👍
Great analysis Si. Without doubt Dj is the best. Loved his returns against Nick the D**k in the final. Massive fan👍
Many thanks for the support James 🙏
Fab tips, thank you 😊
Great lesson Coach Simon

McEnroe was definitely a genius. Although I don’t think he could employ those tactics in today’s game
@@TopTennisTrainingOfficial yes, you are right.
Great video.
Many thanks 🙏
Really enjoyed the triangle image, other than that great as always.
Many thanks
Wow it’s really good analysis your the best. Can you make a video about Edberg’s volley? Volley is really hard to me
absolutelt greatest returner

That’s when returning in training, players tell each other where they’re going “out wide here mate” etc
In points, it’s different
Yes, the evidence is the men's final match of 2022 . Despite the big points of serve from kyrgios, he managed to win...
Not only win, but dominate the last three sets against a player who was hitting 70% first serves in and aced him 20 times
is the step at 3.50 also called a gravity step?

Zone in, zone out. A common eye training technique

Agassi is right up there for sure. I feel that Novak moves better and is able to reach wider balls because of this when returning
Ugly style but undoubtedly the GOAT.
His technique or his game?
@@TopTennisTrainingOfficial To me he looks awkward. But you can’t argue with the results. Tennis doesn’t give style points.
Ugly style its medvedev or gulbis, theres nothing ugly in Novak Game, the guy it's almost perfect on everything
i cant fucking return bro
