    that is accurate for only one relationship between perception time and distance to the ball; understanding the concept that determines those interactions with where the centre of mass is moving before the near foot begins descending explains all the variations. Simply watch any video with many great returns by many players to see those variations, even if you don't see the reasons for them

    The other two things I notice is he hits almost flat with a horizontal swing - very little low to high here - and the more rushed he is the more he pre-drops the racket as the racket drop takes time. Important as even if you get the everything else right having a big racket drop will make your stroke slower and hence harder to time. A low to high swing path will mean your racket is lined up with the ball for a much shorter time then a horizontal swing making it harder to get a clean contact.
