      Your dominant eye is on the axis of your eyesight. Do this test: put your index finger at 30 cm in front of your eyes. Close one eye at the time. If your index finger doesn't move when you close your left eye, your right eye is your dominant eye. If this is the other way around, your left eye is the dominant eye. Voilà!

      Actually this is nonsense, it is true that there is a dominant eye but it has nothing to do on how you stand for a stroke. Following Patrick’s logic some players would not be able to hit shots open stance.

    • @mescellaneous
      @mescellaneous 10 месяцев назад +1

      nope. ocular dominance matters. "see with both eyes" is simply not true if you ever play around with it for even a second, which you didn't. your dominant eye is your main frame. you generally do not see out of your non dominant eye, it's only for periphery. if it were true, when she did that hand diamond test, she would not see her mother with either eye blocked.
      it's not hard to understand. you see out of one eye as the main frame, which means you should tailor everything towards that. if you spend even a minute playing around with eye dominance, you will see that you do not use your non dominant eye for almost anything. vision is too blurry. as in, relax the non dominant eye and pretend to use the dominant eye as the non dominant (open but block it), vision will be blurry. whereas if you test with the dominant eye and pretend to use the non dominant eye (open but block it), vision is clear.
      for same side dominant folk (same side eye and hand dominance), it largely doesn't affect them. which is why you have these naysayers pop out of the woodwork. but here in the example, it did matter for this particular stroke, where the ball is coming directly towards her center, and her instinct was to turn to generate power for the dominant arm instead of keeping the dominant eye on the ball. so the form needs to be adjusted to account for both the eye and the arm, not just the arm.

I don't know who he is, but everything I've seen says he's a fantastic coach....probably one of the best but I just don't recognize him. She however has the coachable attitude needed for success. No, the dominate eye is not that important. That's why you have a neck so you can turn your head. Patrick has been pushing the dominate eye as a key factor to groundstroke and serves and it simply isn't that important. All the other fundamentals are more important and you can turn your head to adjust your eye to impact angle.

And, if you look at all the slam winners in the last 50 years, I bet the vast majority didn't stress eye dominance as part of their training. My concern is players will begin to adjust stances and approaches to the ball to accommodate "eye dominance" but good coil on serve is more important than eye dominance as the neck can adjust your field of vision.

Funciona siempre."

    She could still have a closed stance if she turned her head a little so her main eye gets a good look. She just need to override that muscle memory to turn her head more with some drills

      Yeah, to accentuate the idea, she could just wear a left eye-patch, so her head is more aligned forward, rather than her right.

      Make circle with both hands. Watch through circle and focus object, just fitting in circle. Make circle smaller as you move hands towards your eyes, still focusing object. Will end up at dominant eye. Works everytime.

      @@crazylector tried it, my dominant eye is my left eye, even though I'm a righty. Might be because I had an accident in my right eye when I was young.

      @crazylector Год назад

      @@paulczerner3286 yeah, i guess it can change in such circumstances. For most people it's right eye when right handed but like federer i also know of a few exceptions.
