I got my seeds this afternoon in the mail from Sweden and I’m just taking a refresher course watching all of your videos in this series so I can get to work tomorrow. I got my first batch of seeds and I sowed them on Christmas day but I really don’t think they were viable. The person I got them from just have a lot of negativity and kind of scaring me away from being successful and it was a very reputable place online but I just don’t think it’s my fault why they didn’t germinate but just to be sure I still have them and I’m not giving up on them yet but just to be sure with this new batch I am re-educating myself. These seeds came from somewhere else and I personally know people who have had tons of success so I am very confident. And plus my first batch I think I made the mistake by choosing harder to grow succulents so we’ll see what happens. Keep your fingers crossed for me because this is the next step in my journey! If I am successful then the industrial greenhouse Goes up this summer heated and everything❤️❤️❤️🌵🌵🌵
Liz, should I leave the grow light on constantly until I see That they have germinated? Or should I be giving them some sleep time I guess what I’m asking is for the first 10 to 14 days should I just leave them under the grow light? I know after they sprout I want to give them a few hours of dark
I had the grow light on for 16 hours a day. They need some darkness to germinate. I had the big tub under the shelf (1.1 meters away) with cover on to maintain moisture and also not too close to the light to encourage the seeds to pop out looking for the source of light. I find the ones grown close to the light not having success for me. I kept the lid close for 5 days. On the 6th day, I kept the lid ajar to let the air circulate a bit during the day and pop it back on at night when I turned off the grow light and have it ajar again when I turned it back on the next day. Different plants will germinate differently. Good luck. I'll be keeping everything crossed for you.
@@GrowingSucculentswithLizK thank you you just answered every single question I could not find answers to in any thing on the Internet about germinating succulent seeds! Thank you so much I think I will have success this time❤️❤️❤️
What is the best temperature for germination? I’ve had such conflicting advice 😢 Facebook groups in UK say Echeveria seeds don’t like temperatures above 20degrees centigrade whereas the people I have purchased seeds from (Sweden and UK) say 25 degrees centigrade and some up to 28 degrees centigrade is required with big night/day temperatures. Please can someone help me I’ve spent a fortune on seeds! 😅
your little "their growing!" gave me a lot of joy, I recently ordered some succulent seeds off etsy in my area (canada) and im excited to get them into some soil :) thank you for all the info
Hi Liz! New subbie from California here 😄 I'm also a plant addict that reuses household plastics for pots! I use a soldering iron ($10 on Amazon) to quickly make a ton of holes in lots of cups (sometimes I get extra small drinking cups for pots). You do have to plug it in but it doesn't take long to heat up
In growing seeds, after the initial top watering of soil, I prefer to bottom water when plantlet emerge, since watering from the top can make them rot.

good afternoon watching your video on how to plant the succulent seeds.. great video. I have a question, you indicate the ingredients seed starter, Vermiculite , granite and unidentified "other soil" please identify what is the "other soil" thanks Denise
I found a seed starting mix with peat moss, vermiculite, and lime, and a second mix with coco coir, worm castings, vermiculite, and perlite. Do you think using one of these mixes and sprinkling some sand on top will be good for succulents? I just can’t find a mix with the ingredients you mentioned. Your help means a lot, thank you.
Is is alright if I use potting mix with compost containing organic yucca and coir instead of seed raising mix with added fertilizer? And can I use perlite instead of granite? I just can’t find granite and seed raising mix soil; I only found vermiculite.
I'm not familiar with organic yucca and coir. Maybe, you can try mixing it up. The only problem with having too much compost in seed raising soil mix is that it might encourage mold growth. If I only have the substrate you have....I would mix, fine coconut coir and vermiculite as a main soil mix for germinating seeds and sprinkle a bit of coarse sand on top to keep the seeds down. I would also do a test run on a small amount of seeds to see if it works. Good luck. Hope it works.
@@alinaa5138 Desert sand is fine, as long as it doesn't have any salt(wash first if there is salt). The seed raising mix I buy/used is composed of Coarse sand, Composted pine bark, Mineral fertilizers.
Ahhh....White Zaragoza is what I call a Pantene plant. It won't happen overnight but it will happen. That means they need to mature(2years w/ mine) before they produce pups. Leaves can also be propagated but very slooow.
@@GrowingSucculentswithLizK Thanks Liz! Know what you saying Pantene plant! Mine is flowering now! Have tried to pollinate! ? Do you think I have any chance with seeds ?
Hey Liz I enjoy you videos very much, Love your happy spirit. I have a question I thought maybe you will know from your experience...may seeding mixture is 1 part soil (peat) 2 part vermiculate and 1 part sand. I've noticed that when I bottom water the mixture before seeding, it takes a lot of time for the soil to absorbed the water (like an hour maybe more) I feel that something might be off, it should not take so much time. Did you encounter something similar? maybe its say something about the proportions? maybe its O.K? I would really appreciate your opinion
Peat can be hydrophobic. If using peat to grow seeds, may I suggest wetting your soil mix first before putting the seeds in. If you notice in the video, my soil mix is damp. May I also suggest amending your soil mix. 1 part peat, 1 part sand and 1/4 part vermiculite would probably be a better mixture. Then you can mix the seed with the sand and sprinkle it on top of your soil mix. Good luck.
i would use 10-20 72 cell flats because her 17 day grow, spread a little thinner, would need no pricking out. the crushed granite is way too much work. some sand from the gutter, boil it, screen it the size you need
I'm sorry Isabel but I'm not selling at the moment. I have to test grow the seeds I have before selling it to make sure that they will grow. Will definitely do a video to let you know when I'm ready. 🥰
I bought small ones in the past when it's still popular and paid good money only to find that the price goes down after a few months. Had I waited, I would have paid a lot less for the same size plant.
"Only from leaves"? Oddly, my succulent seeds germinated just fine. I have also grown succulents from stem cuttings. Cactus from stem cuttings as well.
This is unreal, so much explaining, so many details, so much talking about unnecessary stuff. Just follow nature, get some soil, plant place your seeds on it, barely cover it with the same soil, water it sparingly and you are done. If it's cold keep them inside by a window.

What’s the ideal temperature range for germination of Echeveria I find such conflicting advice 😢
20°C and above room temperature. But the most success I had was inside the grow tent with a constant 23°C to 28°C.

Wow amazing to see succulents growing from seeds. When they are 4 leaves, do you still cover them with the lid?
Sometimes. Depends on the moisture level.

Will desert sand work for sprinkling? Also, what should be in the seed raising mix then?

Do you put them under lights to germinate?
Yes. These are all grown inside the grow tent under the grow light.
Do u sterilize the soil? How to do that if you do?
The soil I used are shop bought so no need to sterilize, but the granite I placed in the oven for half an hour on 180°C.
@@GrowingSucculentswithLizK Would Miracle-Gro or a more premium and organic potting soil mix work? Is the sand necessary?
Great job

How long do you keep the growlight on? 8 or 12 hours?
12 to 16 hours depending on the season. Shorter in winter and longer in summer.

Is temperature important? I trying to germinate my albuca and greenovia but still babies out by 8 days. The seller told me temperature important
Both of them I believe prefers a moderate temperature preferably more on the colder side than hot side. Autumn is the best time for sowing.
I am trying my hand at growing succulents from seed, and they have sprouted already. Do I need to leave it covered, or let it be uncovered?
Once they sprouted, I keep the lid off but still make sure that the soil in the bottom stays moist(not wet) to encourage the roots to go down.
