The lead singer Justin wrote this song originally about his ex-girlfriend. It was written to be a "please move on" song to her. While he was working on the song he got the voice-mail from his mom that you hear at the beginning, and realized that he had a lot more people to apologize to than just his ex, so he re-interpreted it as an apology to everyone that he'd put through hard times, including both his ex and his mom especially. Then the video director came up with the "it's too late, mom is dead" interpretation, but if you watch the video, the last scene she's actually alive and they're drinking iced tea together, so a little hint of hope at the end. Long story short, if you are getting different interpretations of this song, it's because it has multiple meanings layered on top of each other. It is first an apology to his ex, second an apology to others he hurt by his behavior, and third as story about losing his mother.
Justin Furstenfeld is one of the best lyricists that I've listened to over the years. Blue October is one of my favorite bands because of his lyrics. Here are some suggestions: Into the Ocean Fear Come in Closer 18th Floor Balcony Home Black Orchid Amazing Stay with Me
"Hate Me" is a song asking for forgiveness from the people you hurt when you were in a bad place in life. Justin Furstenfeld is a brilliant lyricist and I love a lot of Blue October songs. Good music just to chill to when you feeling down. Somewhat depressing sometimes, but in a inspiring way. Love the outdoor reaction. Still waiting on that reaction in the bath with candles.😘❤✌
"Hard to swallow" is an English phrase, it means something hard to accept, hard to deal with, hard to do. For example, "learning that the world isn't a perfect place can be a hard pill to swallow"
"Hate me so you can finally see what's good for you." Some people wear their hearts on their sleeve. Justin Furstenfeld wears an overcoat of his emotions for all to see and feel. 2:35 The song is definitely dramatic, and it is romantic in its own way, and it should absolutely be used in a movie if it hasn't already been. 10:21 - 10:46 You understood it perfectly. 😀💯 Justin feels things so deeply, and he used substances previously to accentuate those feelings and then to try to help him cope with them, so many of his songs are about that and the negative impact it had on his relationships with others. He almost lost those most important to him, including his wife and daughter, and he fought to get sober because he didn't want to lose them forever. The albums are a soundtrack to his life. He doesn't hold back, he puts it all out there, that's what draws people to his music, and that's why being genuine in one's art is so important. If you really feel it, so will others. Blue October is one of my favorite bands, so I couldn't click fast enough when I saw that you were reacting to one of their songs for the first time! I have so very many other songs I could recommend, but I'll stick with a few favorites: Things We Don't Know About Things We Do At Night Chameleon Boy How to Dance in Time King Fear I Want It Justin Furstenfeld has also released a couple of solo albums, where he sings stripped-down versions of some songs by Blue October, and I actually prefer those versions even more than the full band versions in some cases. Justin has such a gift for melody, and that really shines through in his solo versions. It's just the certain note inflections that he uses, which works so well. Here is a link to his solo version of Chameleon Boy, which is a deeply personal song for him, and a very powerful song for me: ruclips.net/video/xJ_yvF-1-OU/видео.html I love your outdoor reaction video for this song, and I hope you enjoy your journey into the very deep world of Blue October and Justin Furstenfeld!
I love this song, especially the live version which is quite a bit different sounding. The song grew out of the era it was recorded in and became an epic live anthem as his vocals are so much better than the autotuned/alterered version they recorded for the studio years ago in the this era. Check out "The End" live from them for a very very dark song about something horrible that happens far too often. Really anything live from them. He's just a vocal beast. He is also one of the most personal storytellers in music. He details his drug addiction, his trouble with his ex and how wrong he did her, his dark thoughts about it, and finally how happy he found his new wife and new life over the course of several albums. They are great and when touring starts back up, if it ever does, they tour in lots of intimate venues. I've seen them twice in places that have around 400 capacity. It's just a great experience. I love the outside idea! In the summer time here if anyone tried that the bugs would overwhelm your audio. That may not be a problem in California. Thank you so much for reacting to this. I truly appreciate you so much.
Hello!!! Its been a long time since I watched one of your reactions and I am so happy to be back, I missed you! I am really digging the background nature setting with a sunset and the cozy color arrangement with lighting, makes for a very comfortable display. I am sorry you had to be in the cold to achieve this perfection, but at least your efforts weren't wasted on a just "okay" song; this is a great song! It is a personal anthem for so many people who lost their way and if they didn't have someone to care about them, who knows where they'd be. Thank you for the quality and the suffering to make this reaction possible.
Ahh It's true it's cold in California, you told me i didnt suppose so much ! Very nice sunset shooting outdoors but everytime you turned around your head i was afraid there was a snake or a coyote, a lot of tension for you 😂! Good song especially interesting lyrics because i can see myself enough when he says that he lets a woman to hate himself for things he didnt do for a woman he loves or cares about and to find what is good for her . Never heard this group and very nice outdoor reaction, but run home to warm you up now it's freezing 🥶 🥶
Thank-you for this review in the natural setting(beautiful sunset) braving the elements(cold weather). You nailed this take(review)of this song.Ofcourse you picked up on the harmonies right of which holds the structure of the song together. The instrumentals(strings) are quite moving as well.Overall it's a "dramatic" theme that the song deals with.Definately about addiction and the regret he feels about letting someone down while using.Glad no wild animals bothered you while recording 😉.And your nose didn't look red on camera you looked very sophisticated while staying warm.Have a great weekend Yuliya!🌝👍
Great reaction! You should check out the worry list bleed out, light you up and moving on by them. Such an underrated band! Justin writes with such raw emotion.
They do not have one bad song! Check out the latest songs “Fear” & “Home” is my favs. Justin Furstenfeld’s (Lead) back story is miraculous. And his music over the years reflects the changes he’s been through, from addiction, mental health issues, & divorce. You would not regret following his journey💙
hello I always see that you are surprised by the great shows that's why I think you should watch battle hyms by manowar because it is an impressive show where they put on stage all their historical guitarists and drummers at the same time with an orchestra and a choir ... look at it I think you're going to like it ... greetings from Argentina
Clinical depression or Major depression Disorder is a horrible thing. I drove my baby mother away because I wanted her to hate me as much as I hated myself.
Excellent song and Band great reaction my muldovian lady friend is asking please do a review of My Name is human by Highly suspect it wont disappoint promise
This was a very good song but it's also attached to some sad memories. Most times I can't make it far into the song before it just becomes too emotional to listen too. Other than that I want your opinion on these 2 songs and singers. One is King Diamond - Sleepless Nights - Live at The Fillmore The other one is by Judas priest called: judas priest diamonds and rust live. Should be the first video to pop up Both are live versions so the copyright police probably won't mess with it but if you don't want to take chance can you just watch them both offcam and tell us what you think? I've asked many people this same question but none of them are great singers like you. So your opinion carries a lot more weight than theirs. Who is the better singer? If you don't care or are too busy to fool with it, I no complain Thank you for all these reaction and cover songs. You are the greastest friend ever.
Huh..whod knew id fall in love today. wowzers

"Hate me in ways hard to swallow" lyric refers to a saying "a hard/large pill to swallow" which means a truth that is hard to accept.
Awesome
Justin have gotten over this part of his life which was around 2005....Look at songs, like Fear, Home, I hope your happy....they are more upbeat...

You should do a reaction on Fear by Blue October. Amazing song
I love and hate this song. This album is one of the most...poignant and personally resonant albums I've ever listened to, uncomfortably, painfully so.
Watch falling in reverse song "the drug in me is you"
