Spawn is incredibly packed with immense potential as a film / franchise; however , this guy isn’t a director or a screenwriter. I'm becoming to think Todd McFarlane is the Jerry Jones when it comes to Spawn. Some many missed opportunities in lots of things. He could of made a video game by now something along lines of Arkham Asylum/Spiderman like with Spawn. He was okay having him in Mortal Kombat and CoD games, why not find a studio like Insomniac Games to do a game.

To be fair the timing of his original announcement was at the wrong time for a theatrical released film. A few years of the delays were during the pandemic and then the writers strike happened. He was able to get a studio to sign on with the original script he wrote himself, but not a big distributor. Studio distributors have also been bought and rebought. So if anyone at the top was interested that would be out the window when a new guard takes charge. I think with Spawn appearing in WB properties and their past history, it would be the go to for a green light. But AT&T bought and sold it and the rumor is Discovery plans to flip it too. They’re not spending much on new projects and all the ones in development would most likely be scrapped if WB was sold again. But with so many IPs they’re probably not licensing anything they don’t already own. WB is just an example of some of the extremes of why movies could take so long with studio heads changing. It’s likely the first 2 years before the pandemic he was set on writing and directing it and simply no big studio wanted to take a chance on distribution with no live action directing record. I think his animated music videos show he could make for a great director but there’s a wide stretch between a few mins and a full length movie. However he did make the distinction that he would not be the cinematographer, which a few great directors are as well. Sometime durning the pandemic years he decided to hire some writers to revise the script. I think post pandemic he hired the Joker writer and him and some others did a whole new script. However it was paused again due to the writers strike. Those writers also had other huge projects to write like Joker 2 and Captain America Brave New World. So only now is their script finally done. Now he’s even open to someone else directing so with that and the writers on board, I do think he’ll finally get a green light for distribution. Also as he’s pointed out lately this will be a huge year for R rated films based on Comicbook properties so if the R rating was another hold up like he stated when he was first pitching it, in the height of the big budget MCU films, that won’t get as big a push back anymore. Especially if the studios see Deadpool & Wolverine and Joker 2 outperform everything PG-13 from the last 4 years. However if not then perhaps he will finally be open to looking outside the normal theatrical route and pitch it to Netflix or Amazon. Something he hasn’t tried yet either. I think we would have most likely already seen it made and released if he had. As all studios needed streaming content when he first announced he wanted to make a new film then even more during the pandemic years. I actually think it would work far better to pitch it as a series with the premiere episode also having a full length movie run time myself. The budget and tone all scream this to me. Lately more films are getting a theatrical run along with streaming after a very short time like with Apple’s latest films.
There's an argument to be made for Spawn being one of the most powerful comic book characters of all time. He has the traditional strength, invulnerability and flight common to superheroes in addition to abilities like teleportation and telekinesis.
Weirdly i think the director of the new crow movie. I feel that movie will do well enough for him to be considered. I'm not for remakes but it does have an inteteresting style that could work well with the new spawn.

Visualize the icon frame of the ice cream man hanging in chains being murdered by al for his deeds. Then overtkill tracks al down n he fights and at the end we are introduced to the violator.

The 1st Spawn movie is truly an absolute disaster of a film. It was so bad that after I saw it I stopped collecting the comics & I stopped buying the toys. It had the same effect as the Masters of the Universe movie. A really bad movie can hurt a brand forever & Spawn 100% falls into that category.

But other than that it was corny, you can tell Jamie Fox is aware of the cameras and he puts on more of a mediocre show than actually acting. He’s gonna ruin Spawn and Al Simmons character all together because Jamie’s acting is a joke and can’t be taken seriously in any of his roles

What a waste of time
The 1st Spawn movie is truly an absolute disaster of a film. It was so bad that after I saw it I stopped collecting the comics & I stopped buying the toys. It had the same effect as the Masters of the Universe movie. A really bad movie can hurt a brand forever & Spawn 100% falls into that category.
It's been almost 30 years; i think enough people have been born that haven't seen the first one that won't care \and will go "oh, there was a 90's version?"

You do know they been trying to take control of the movie and Todd wants to control the direction of the movie that's the problem. And he don't want the same thing to happen to the first Spawn movie and they hating on Todd.
