Will It Run?!? 1965 Chevrolet Impala SS Resurrection! Parked for several years in a Barn!

- Опубликовано: 27 авг 2024
- I snagged this 1965 Impala up to get it running for a customer. It sounds like it was parked 3 or 4 years ago. Usually that means 10 years. So who knows what we'll find?!? It's a super clean 1965 Impala SS 2 owner car. 327 automatic with POWER WINDOWS! It's also got add on aftermarket air conditioning as well. Let see if we can get this one back on the road! This is not my car so it is not for sale at this time. Thanks for watching!

The cleanest looking classic that you've ever worked on Mort. She has a bright future ahead.
I don’t know man that chassis looked rotted when he checked the exhaust
Must've been the camera because it's solid.
@@MortskeRepair yea I am getting older my apologies one of my favorite episodes
@@notpabloescobar2475 No worries!
Best way to start off the week
Everyone knows that's a "Roosevelt Pin" and it gets torqued to 19.37 N-m... That Anal O Scope is sweet. You could be like Scanner Danner but instead of being stuck in the 90s you'll be stuck in the 70s!
Great stuff Wes.
I figured you would know! Heck, I'm stuck in the 60s so that's a compliment!
I liked the 70s so much I skipped the 80s n just had two 70s😁🙏
I Just Knew Watch Wes Work Was Privy
Man you and the ole "Pott county special" have been killing it with the content recently
Just in from work and I've a fresh day in the life of Duff-Dog to watch!
Thanks much!
This is, IMHO, my favourite car Morts ever had - it's beautiful and the sound!
This Florida Man's brake bleeder "system" (besides Russell Speed Bleeders on my "good" car) is clear hose in a large spaghetti sauce jar with the label removed. It's all clear so I can see fluid moving or bubbles, plus it's heavy and stable so I don't tip it over, plus it holds a lot. Also - I used my trained alligator to press the pedal. Because Florida.
I use an old mason jar with a hole drilled in the cap for the hose and another small hole for a vent. Works great.
The only trouble with the bottle with hose on the floor, they tip over spilling brake fluid in the floor !
@Jenita Davis I reported you to RUclips. Trash
Wife bleeding has caused a lot of divorces. 🥲

i watch you and puddin my wife watching her soaps and loves how quite i am watching you guys
Watching you work on drum breaks brought me back to my teenage years working on my rides
That's what the small "window" is for on the old points style distributor cap....you insert a small Allen wrench into the points set and adjust the dwell while the engine is idling
Watching this makes me want another 65-66 Impala. Most of em in my area have a lot of weight reduction. Thanks Mortske 🙏👍
Every time I watch this video it takes me back in time.
Working on customers stuff is a sure fire way of not losing the shop plus you get content that I and others like to watch.
Gotta do what you gotta do!
My first car was a 65 SS Impala.
This is a nice machine.
It is good to see the shape that it's in.
65 Impala was my very first car too. Long body and smooth out on the road. 283 small block engine. Had wide Micky Thomsons at the rear. Miss that car so much hehe
Awesome, My first car was a 65 Impala, loved it and miss it alot.
1965 Impala is the best car!
Mortske law of drainpans is no joke. It is a real thing. I have witnessed it.
Right!
Wow Chevy got it right when they came out with the 1965 Chevrolet Impala SS!!!!! it"s a stunning car ,so beautiful!!!
Agreed, the Impala from 1958 thru 1967 were all classic body styles and the Super Sports from 1961 thru 1967 were the cream of the crop!
She'd be a keeper in my garage if I had a bigger garage to keep 'er in. Love me the '65-'66 Impala's better than the newer-ish ones. Excellent Lead sled to cruise out on the open two lane highway. Too bad you can't keep her and enjoy 'er. One could hope that someday you'll find one for yourself..and Duff.
Enjoy the Ride.
Best looking vehicle I have seen you do. Those 65s and 66 were good looking cars. All you need is a set of points and a feeler gauge, no need for the anal scope. Love the vids.
I almost had one of these 65's in an ss back in 98. (As a 15 year old back in 97) I got out bid as a kid. Someone had more money. Now I'm 40 and want one, and hopefully it's in this shape!
Wow! A basketball. That’s a plus.
Or 9!
I appreciate your running commentary while working, especially your useful hints like placing the adhesive side of the gasket on the removable part. So logical, but the amateur mechanic like myself may not think of that. I‘ll never forget that one. Thanks! Greetings from Germany!
Thanks for watching in Germany!
My aunt bought one of these brand new! I loved the times I got to ride around in it, I was 6 then. She traded it in 1970 on a new Buick Riviera. That was nice too.
Duff knows he's got it made, happy pup.
Happy Monday courtesy of Mortske and Duff!
Mort you REALLY scored big with this find. This thing is absolutely beautiful. It's really clean and the few little blemishes on the body and the vinyl top can be fixed easily. I have ALWAYS wanted something nice and clean like this old girl. Definitely envious of you there bruh.
i think that ss puppy is only grow in value. body is awesome for the year and how many were built?
I believe he said this was a customer car I might be mistaken though
Great stuff. Keep up the good work and stay safe
Thanks, will do!
Dam that super sport is going to save the shop
HELLO FROM ONTARIO, CANADA. May be 18 months late viewing this video but I like just about anything with a 327!

Looks like it was stored in a heated building. Flawless!
It wasn't heated but it had a good roof at least!
Been awhile since I have heard the howl of Powerglide pump drive gears, if you need a dwell meter I ran into one while cleaning my shop a couple months back. Funny what you find when your digging thru 30 plus years of automotive stuff, brought back good memories of the 1966 Impala SS 427 390hp T400 12 bolt 3.08 posi with console gauge package that I had.
damn, an impala! an actual car worthy of fixing XD
Agree!
Ryan you're not a little biased are you? I know I am.
Hell yeah
Very nostalgic. A sentimental or wistful yearning for the happiness felt in a former place, time, or situation. The 65 impala SS will do that for you. Only if you were around back then.
The Snap-On scope came in about 1958. I did not start my apprenticeship until 1960. The Sun scope was the big ticket item the. Thanks for the memories. The old school guy.
Great info Dan!
GREAT oil pressure!!! and THAT is always a very good thing!!!
I love Duff.
Remember, if the women don't find you handsome, they should at least find you handy.
Beautiful car
😂
Definition of Dwell angle: The number of degrees your distributor shaft rotates while the points are closed.
Not many know what that means or what a dwell meter is. Easiest way to set points on a Chevy. Just open the little door on the cap and insert the Allen wrench. Turn while running and dwell meter connected.
@@MaxNafeHorsemanship Same way on my 67 Pontiac Cat back in the day! Beat the heck out of "try and repeat" on Furds and Mopars! I even had a little specialized tool, flexible shaft Allen wrench with a screwdriver handle so you could put the hex through the little drop-down aluminum door on the distro cap! Perfect set every time!
By far, this is the BEST car you ever revived. This is a nice classic. You should keep this one and enjoy it.
Wait.... It's a customers car. Now I get it.
Such good fashion sense about fuzzy dice, that's why I watch and recommend this program to others
Thanks much Mike!
Woohoo it's Monday, I shall watch this as soon as I get home with an adult beverage.
Home now, I better watch before we lose the house.
Much appreciated Stephen!
Hi Mortske and Duff. This was great to watch. The car appears to be in great condition for its age. It should not be too much effort to get this in tip top condition and it would make a nice daily driver. I hope that the customer was happy with your work. Again thoroughly enjoyed. Cheers Chris.
Imo the best way to start off the week
I'm partial to Impalas, my grandmother had a 63 my grandfather had a 64, when I was born in 64 my grandfather bought my mother a 64 SS convertible Impala. She doesn't remember what the engine was, all she cared about is it ran 😂 thank you for bringing this awesome content 👍☮️
Our pleasure Kenneth!
Its a Sweet car. That needs a motor rebuild. Love those old Impalas...
Could just need valve guides(or worst case, rings).
Cheapest rebuild on the planet. Cool car for sure.
wow, nice ride, congrats!! just started watching....
can't believe Duff Dog turned down a ride, lol, must be real tired... he said hi to us, love it!
Just heard this is a customer's car... still a nice ride to work on, thanks for sharing.
Make sure all grounds are connected and grounding properly, as the electrical accessories will depend on them.
I remember using a Sun engine diagnosing system in high school. It was even older, it just had needle meters. No pong game for us. High school, early 90s...ok I dated myself. I love those old IMP-ALLAS (said with much affection) and this was a nice one!! Lucky owner! 👍
Wow a 'flip' ready car for Craig's listing.
I believe- The owner/ customer would be a little mad,, if Mortski Sold It.....
Great content as usual, that has to be one of the cleanest car I’ve seen on the channel, as well as being one of the easiest to start running, all the best going forwards
Much appreciated!
Mortsky..... finally, something cool!!!!
Nicely optioned car.....
The simplicity under that hood brings back so many memories . But new cars , Arg !
Tuning in for Mortske Monday Morning. We had a 65 drop top in Bahama blue with white interior.
Sweet!
Nice 65 looks good. I had my glass pack day, then quickly changed it. Jim Varney clips are the best. Know what I mean Vern.
Right on!
Mondays with Mortske..... always a win....
I know what I'm watching when I get off work.....😁👍🏻👍🏻
Wow... now that is a great find!! 65 Impalas was my favorite year. You don't see many in that condition. Be good to that one.
The unmistakable sound of a Chevy starter. Nice car, great job! Too bad you couldn’t keep it and do a donut or three!
FYI-Put a starter off a 2000 and newer 4.3 V-6 on it. I get em off late model Astro vans at the nearby yard for $25 each. They fit big and small block Chevy's. They bolt right up and are half the size. They make zero gear noise. Spins my 180 degree built 454 in my 55 Chevy over no problem.
Need to try one of those!
Best thing about Mondays. Thank you.
Be well and stay safe.
I love the whine of a powerglide.
Love the 6 round taillights on the impala . But car that got my attention was the one you backed out . 53 ford custom? Both are cool cars. .....that's the way to get over the Datsun blues in a hurry!
Mortske with a clean and shiny car? And a will it run on a clean looking car? What’s this world coming to?
Yeah I sold the 53 last summer. Too nice for me!
@@MortskeRepair
But it's a FURD... Cool car but I'd stick with the GM brand myself. Old's
Buick, Cadillac, Pontiac,
Or maybe an Opel .. maybe a Saturn..nope no way, not for me. G.M.C would be cool.
Got a soft spot for that 53 Ford 2dr sdn. Last year for the flat-head, compression up to 7.5, horsepower up to 110. If equiped with overdrive, even sweeter !
@@MortskeRepair Sad to hear you sold it. Could have joined the Ford early V-8 club of America.
Not grungy enough 🤣
Right!
Why why why, Thomas you are the best at solving issues leave the electronics out of it,if you are having problems let Duff fix it.
WOW!! It's Evening Orchid!! My 65 Chevelle SS convertibles were that color,... both of them.
It's 11.30pm here in Australia I will watch it in the morning, but to answer the question of will it run?
Of course it will it a Chevy 👍
My first car was a 65 Impala. I miss that car. I would love to have another one before I go.
65 Impala’s are the best!
@@MickelsonRacingChannel I was going to say that.
Morning Mortske watching you instead of working lol
Good to hear Chris!
This is pretty much the nicest vehicle I ever seen you work on. Nice find.
I couldn't see the factory recall engine safety tie downs on the exhaust manifolds - bad things happen when the driver side motor mount heads south on you.
That 327 doesnt make enough power to break that motor mount
@@Bill-xc8le It's not a matter of power - The rubber rots and rips apart - you don't want that to happen because of the solid throttle linkage to the carb pulls open the carb when the engine lifts and causes chaos.
@@johnhere6058 ya I kind of figured something of that sort after I had already replied, I never thought about the linkage, thanks John!!
Neighbor had an old Chevy truck with a busted motor mount that he used on the farm. Never had to use the throttle when taking off. Just start letting the clutch out, the motor twisted and opened the throttle all by itself.
@@robgm6926 That would be funny - We were at Libby Montana to a car show - I was putting my 55 Chevy Belair back on my trailer when I gave it a little throttle my new mount from Eckler's let loose, it all happened so fast that I hit the end of my trailer - no real damage but sure scared the crap out of me
A nice set of 15x8 rally wheels and 235/60/15 tires all the way around would look so good on that car !!
245 or 255 would be much more better w/ 15x8 or 7in wheels. Like some stock metal blk smoothies. And dog dish caps. 👍
@@FleshLessOne with this car you would have clearance problems with taller tires remember they came out with 14" wheels and tires with G/78/14 on them H would be the step up so if you were going to go with blk steels and dog dish why not just keep the 3 spoke SS caps with a set of 225/70/14 tires and keep it classic ?
@@haroldrogers6083 they wouldn't be taller just wider. As 235 245 or 255 is actually the width of tire not height. 60 series or 70 would be height. So a 245 or 255/60/15 would fit just fine. My friend's dad's '66 Impala SS has a set of 15x8 torque thrust whls w/ 245/60/15's on it and there's no clearance issues. The stance of the car is Perfect and it hugs the road GR8.
FYI.
@@FleshLessOne the aspect ratio does go up with each bump , 235 is the old G , 245 is the old H , 255 would be the J with 275 the old L , the GMC Scottsdale in the old square body came with the Lr/60/15 that coverts to 275/60/15 on 8 in rallys , on my 86 Silverado i had 15x8 chrome stars and 275/60/15 on all 4 corners they filled up the fenderwell and cornered like it was on a rail .
@@haroldrogers6083 I had a '86 Silverado also c10 w/stk rally's 15x7in w/ 255/60/15 and they fit perfectly. If I'd had a set of 4x4 15x8 rallies I would of put 275/60/15's on it but those are 6lug and I had 5x5. My 64' Old's Cutlass has 15x7's on it w/255/60/15's and it's just right stance wise. However on my 64' El Camino I got 70's z/28 rally's that are 15x7 and have 205/70/15's on it and I would be able to squeeze a 225/60/15 on it, but the rears are hard to remove & put on as the whl house is very shallow and lowered 2in. Same as 64-65 chevelle 55-57 tri years and a few others. Those Impala's got's lots of room and like my Old's can fit a 295/60/15 on rears. I've seen it done it. 15x10's on rear. But some like puny sized wheels and keep the stk ratio. I prefer bigger than stk but not too much bigger.
Oh my God it's my dream car Favorite Year almost favorite options it's my dream car good job love it
I love that body style of Impala, Caprice and Biscayne. Great vidjayo Sir Mortikiss
Cool video Mortske. That would be worth fixing up for sure. Not many fully optioned barn find 65 SS's around these days in great condition. Sucks it has a slip & slide Powerglide instead of a 4 speed but the floor shift and console are neat. Might not loose the shop after all huh?. Back in the 70's I had a 65 a 2 door Chevy Biscayne. 2 tail lights on each side. Primer black. Shot green interior. No carpet. If I recall right it had a 283 in it. The air cleaner lid was flipped over. Good for another horse or two. Three on the tree. Fun car. Bought for $75 bucks off a scrap dealer in the red light district of Tempe Az close to Arizona State University. Like everything else I've had over the years they wind up being donors for some rod I was building. That was a nice 53/54 Ford. Until next time.
Yeah I should've kept that 53 Ford.
Sorry to disappoint Mort, I put a glasspack on everything. Just cut a rattly Flowmaster off my '83 Chevy to put on a glasspack. FYI you should be mighty scared of those tires, at 34:31 I see a date code of 1101, 11th week of 2001! But don't feel bad, my '83 Chevy C20 has tires from 2003! ... But they're 6 or 8 ply or some such heavy duty nonsense so they'll probably last until 2043, not that I'm not planning on replacing them, I was doing 70 coming home on those tires! SKEEEETCH!
Yeah, the tires need to go!
I use to own a 65 chevy Impala SS. 327 with 2 speed automatic. Hard top. Loved that car.
Mortske got that Impala looking and running mint!! 💪
on old electronics equipment like the ANAL-o-scope find someone local that can work on electronics, that thing is going to need recapped for sure due to its age. when old capacitors let go they let go and can do a lot of damage

Agreed!
Ske, truly a nice ride, good job. Its always nice to have the ol vintage test equipment around the shop. I hope you continue to teach Duff that the old stuff is the best. Enjoyed the video. Thanks
When I came out of the US Army Signal Corps in 1970, I bought a used 1965 Impala Super Sport 2 door hard top (all white with the deluxe red interior) from Kenny Chevy town in Johnstown, Ohio. This car had the L78 425 HP engine mated to the X2 speed Power Glide Transmission. The car was super fast and we (she and I and my girl friend who did the whoopee cushion thing) loved to go fast and it would shift out of low gear at 80 mph. I literally passed every car on the road, even in a 85 degree curve routinely. This car was the best drifting car I ever drove. The Japanese drifters would have loved this car, it was perfectly balanced for drifting. I could pass cars and drift thru curves at the same time. The car was so fast, I had to steer left of the car I was passing before I floored the 4 barrel carb to pass, otherwise I might crash into the back end of the car in front of me. There were no lines on the highways yet, so passing was at our own risk. I would love to own another one to fly again. My 1972 Monte Carlo with the 454 engine with the X4 speed Turbo 400 Hydromatic transmission is not quite as fast.
Thanks for sharing
I want this car.
Favorite year of Impala and options and you had me at the Thornburg cameo LoL 😆

I THINK THIS IS THE FIRST NEW CAR ON THE SHOW
That actually looks better than one that my friend had in 1972. Between me and my two friends we had seven of them in the 60's and 70's.
Nice!
