As someone who already played the game in VR, I'm happy to see that more people now than ever are able to play this wonderful game without the strict hardware requirement. Obviously I would still recommend that players obtain a HMD for this incredible experience.
Yes, playing this game in VR is 100 times better than playing without it.

My only problem is severe myopia and not wanting to scratch the lens, can't wear contacts either or i'd buy an Index or Quest 3 ASAP

Coincidentally, now that I bought HLA for the NoVR mod, just recently found out that this update was out! I'm now enjoying playing HLA but I'll try plan on replaying this game with the VR. Thanks for making this mod possible for non-vr players!

@@lepaul_Official The mod's pretty good and easy to download! The downside is that it has limits compared to the game being played on a VR (especially on puzzles when Alyx Vance/Us use the EMP Tool), and crashes may vary on some occasion (for me, it occured on an explosion and during Combine's assault after liberating a Vortigaunt). What else...? Sometimes the guns tend to shoot even when you don't click the mouse. But other than these bugs I encountered on my playthrough (still, I have to finish the game), the game's pretty solid and the graphic is awesome, as well as the story! As a non-vr player, this mod is suitable, despite having some bugs but I hope it gets fixed.

@@lepaul_Official It plays very well, and besides some achievements not unlocking (like Up in Arms) I haven't encountered any bugs.
I knew that this mod existed but playing in VR is still the best option.
But its great to see that it is playable on desktop
Buying a vr is not an option for so many people
I have a VR headset and have played Alyx and 100% it's an amazing experience and everyone should play it at least once in VR. Having said that when I'm replaying the series, I just cannot be arsed to get out my headset and play it in VR so this mod is a much better option for me on replay
I know that playing in VR is the best way to play it. I have played it in one of my friend's house and it's awesome, but i'd rather not to buy a VR for just one game, because im not really interested in any other VR game. Those things are expensive and i'd rather use the money to buy a better GPU or something else.
@@MirxCL3208 The price is no longer relevant today, there are so many systems that are affordable and the used market also offers many options. Alyx offers so many interesting workshop objects and campaigns and you can even catch up on part 2 or 1 in VR. ✌
Strongly disagree, playing in VR is physically tiresome, especially for long game sessions. And i say this as someone physically fit.

To be somewhat analog to the original VR aiming, deadzone aiming like Rising Storm and Insurgency Sandstorm would be a nice touch in my opinion.
I got HLA for my birthday and I cant begin to thank all of the people involved in this for their hard work. I dont have the money for a headset so Im really happy to know I can finally experience HLA for myself on my screen. Thank you, seriously. This is a prime example of why the Valve Modding Fanbase can be used for good to do things Valve won't do themselves.
Great to see you’re still hard at work on this mod! It looks more and more impressive with every update, and I’m so glad to see you refining the gunplay to more closely resemble the VR experience.
Do you anticipate the toner/orb puzzles will more closely resemble their appearance in the VR version in the future, as opposed to their more ‘basic’ appearance in this mod?
Also, do you intend to have animations where Alyx can check her ‘Russells’ for health, ammo & resin info, and weapons for clip ammo count, so we can do away with the HUD?

Even though it's more immersive in vr than pc,it's a good mod that is for people who don't wanna spend 1000 dollars for a vr.
You can get quite a few VR headsets used for 150$ or less. that is a HUGE overexaggeration
Meta Quest headsets are an option. If you disagree with Facebook - Pico headsets are an alternative. Used Windows Mixed Reality headsets is the third budget option.

Suggestion: Change the way that the Burst Fire upgrade works. It should toggle burst fire instead of being used for burst fire.
Example: Normally, you use Mouse1 to shoot a normal bullet. Pressing Mouse3 toggles burst fire, making Mouse1 shoot a burst fire.
I played and streamed (on twitch) an earlier build of this mod (Oct 23), and found it to be phenomenal minus a few glitches. Absolutely recommend to all non VR players. Now, with these new improvements, I may have to take another run through the game. Great job GB_2 dev team! Thanks for everything!

Glad i can finally play this game😄 Im not really interested to buy a VR headset, because they are very expensive(i'd rather use the money to upgrade my GPU or something else) and this is the only game im really interested to play. That doesn't mean i haven't tried to play VR games in one of my friend's house. But like i said, it isn't worth it for me right now for just one game.
I can't wait to try out this update! I had to wait for the latest release because the launcher didn't want to work so we will see what happens then.
I´ve just seen a video last week talking about how scrappy and broken the inmersion was without the VR headset, but this is has to be one of the coolest things involving not only Half Life but his modding community. Can't wait to give it a try

I've been playing VR games since the first mainstream headset. I've played this in VR and while its immersive sometimes I just dont want to deal with the headset and just want the story.
This is truly amazing.
Next, you guys should try building a flatscreen recreation on the VR title screen, and you should try making toner puzzles and such look like as they are in VR, that'd be awesome to see
Valve putting a requirement for the game is most definitely weird. Just as weird as the fact that they themselves didn't come up with a noVR patch yet.

Yeah I wish Valve would make a non vr port of this. Wanted get Vr but just too much here Canada. I think my old 2700x/16GB/gtx 1080ti should be enough play this if could afford good vr. I Will be keeping eye on this mod. Thanks

Motion Sickness is cured over time, its common when you start to play VR.

Come to think of it, the Alyx action is currently replaced by jumping, but I don't remember an option to use blink-dash like in the VR version. (something similar to DOOM ETERNAL, etc.)
In ALYX, which has a strong aspect as a cover shooter, I think it is more like it, especially in an engagement, to use blink dash rather than jump.

Probé el mod porque se veía bueno (quería jugar con VR realmente, pero mi condición económica para adquirir uno de estos es limitada y ya no aguanté más), y realmente me hace dudar si el juego está en VR, las mecánicas y animaciones están excelentes. Hay cosas que se notan que debe mejorar, las animaciones de cuando te estas curando, por ejemplo, o algún botón que te salve de estar atrapado en ciertos lugares, pero fuera de eso, la experiencia es impecable. Muchas gracias por crear este mod y permitirnos continuar expandiéndonos en el lore del juego.

I have wanted to play Alyx but I'd sooner crawl through broken glass with my fly open than waste money on a VR headset.
After playing HL Alyx VR a couple of times I say this mod will be a great mod that should have been an option since game release by valve. One does not simply release a HL game and keeps it just on VR. The whole Half Life series should be on PC First
it's insane to me that'd release a hl game after so long to lock it behind vr. every main half life game has had a new idea or tech behind it, friendly NPCs in 1 and physics in 2 are the main thing to me at least, so i guess they made alyx vr only since it is the next new thing but still such a weird thing to do

VR requires a completely different design language than desktop games. This mod is obviously a huge technical achievement, and massive kudos to the devs, but playing through the game on a desktop will not be anywhere near the experience of playing in VR. Valve actually has a developer commentary where they explain their design process and how very early on they discovered that it's basically impossible to make a good VR game that's also playable on desktops without basically kneecapping one of the two platforms. Either you make a great VR game and a completely mediocre desktop game, or you make a completely mediocre VR game and a great desktop game, but you cannot do both.
I've played both versions, and the NoVR mod is a massive downgrade that essentially breaks the game. It's just straight up not a fun experience without VR, when everything, **everything** in the game was designed around the possibilities and limitations of VR.
This is super impressive work
Feels weird seeing it this way guess it was truly made for vr.
I completed the whole game with this mod in just under 7 hours, so it is considerably shorter (as expected) the mod worked pretty well aside from a few issues and bugs. This definitely does serve as a good alternative and the game is very playable and fun. here are the issues I experienced:
the ar's reflex sight glitched so that the dot was visible while not aimed in, and the dot would disappear while aimed in.
walking diagonally combined both directions of walking and resulted in double speed, this is a common bug that is most likely easy to fix.
the game occasionally crashed shortly after dying, not sure what exactly was causing that.
during the end sequence, using a grenade would bring the pistol ui on-screen afterward even though your weapons have been taken away.
also should note that the difficulty isn't as altered as I expected. I played through the game on hard mode and some fights kept killing me until I figured out a good strategy, so it felt great to overcome them.
This is great for those who can’t experience it in VR but I just tried it in VR finally after I got my quest 3 and it’s so awesome! The VR experience is amazing

I see the reason for this, but as a person who did 2 playthroughs in VR and tested a ton of work shop mods, I HIGHLY recommend you to play this in VR. You missing out so much w/o.

As an extremely old man, who is a longtime HL fan, I was so glad to have been able to play this gem without having to strap a monitor to my face while barfing on the floor. A big thank you to the NoVR crew!
How old are you? I'm 36 and have zero motion sickness
You can get motion sickness regardless of age.
VR motion sickness can take time to overcome. Took me a couple weeks before I stopped feeling sick
Did you turn off Barnicle pull-up, and manual ladders and choose teleportation for locomotion and non-smooth rotation? Cause with those settings, you shouldn't experience motion sickness as there is no motion except for elevators, in which case I would recommend just closing your eyes. I did enable smooth rotation at some point just to check if it made me sick, and while I did not have to vomit, just one rotation made me sick enough to force me to wait a few minutes. I turned it off after that experience.

personally i don't have an interest in playing the gae NON vr but the POTENTIAL to use this mod as a ground for shit like HL2 source 2 or other source 2 MODS and games is BRUTAL

Update: for some reason I’m stuck at the beginning because the “use” button won’t work with the call from Eli at the beginning of the game, no matter what button it’s mapped to, it can’t answer it, but it does work with picking up props and using right trigger I can still throw them, if possible, maybe find a solution and maybe create a Steam Deck install guide
The game's definitely better played as intended in VR, but I can appreciate NoVR doing what it's done here so people who can't play VR can still experience HL:A.
Should add a spawn menu in the next update.

Can you improve the mouse sensitivity setting? It’s capped at a limit I’m not comfortable with, and I can’t type into the number box to change it manually like in HL2. The problem is, I always use console commands to set my sensitivity to my comfortable value. But it keeps resetting the sensitivity to 100 every time I load a save.
