    Great video …. I just got one & totally agree with maker of the video. Great idea about the concept but you have to be right on top of the insect to suck it in. I prefer the bug-a-salt to eliminate creepy crawlers.. The Bug Zooka just doesn’t have enough suction to capture any fast movers. Good luck !! ✌🏼

    Do you have any options if you are trying to get rid of stink bugs and not actually collect them?

    • @FrederickDunn
      @FrederickDunn  3 года назад +1

      I don't know of any way to repel stink bugs. But catching them and then just put the capsule in the freezer for 15 minutes, then drop them in the trash.

    Love the bugzooka, but it needs a cap to keep bugs in until they can be dumped.

    • @FrederickDunn
      @FrederickDunn  2 года назад

      It does have a cap, you have to separate the parts to dump out the insect, spider, whatever. the new units have better trap-doors.

    Great review. I use a small 12 volt car vacuum, a 10" clear tube & cap (that fits the vacuum hose 1.25") and two small squares of pantry hose. The first sq caps the clear tube where it connects to the vacuum and the other over the end (with a rubber-band) with a slit. The slit size depends on the size of what you are collecting. I cut a 1/2" hole in the vacuum tube before the clear pipe and use my thumb to adjust the flow. There must be rechargeable vacuums out there but I use mine with a small 6 volt motorcycle battery (reduces the flow rate).

      sounds good, although I think you mean panty, not "pantry" hose?

    If you want to kill the yellow jackets, drop the clear plastic part of the trap in a deep bowl or small bucket of warm water with dish soap deep enough to submerge the entire trap. The insects will drown. Leave them in there a good 10 minutes.

    • @FrederickDunn
      @FrederickDunn  7 лет назад

      the dish soap is not necessary, hot tap water kills them instantly.

    • @SpiritBear12
      @SpiritBear12 7 лет назад

      True, if it's hot enough. But if for some reason there's no hot water available, dish soap in cooler water will kill them faster.

    • @Yowzoe
      @Yowzoe 6 лет назад +1

      No -- bad idea. The soap will remove the oil that is lubricates the flap doors and lead to there being stuck. Early in the video Frederick mentioned that some people reported this stuckness. Look closely and you'll see.

    Def thinking about getting this, sometimes there’s spiders, flies and wasps that get in the house and I think this would be perfect for removing them. I think it would be helpful if you had a girlfriend/wife who wants you to get rid of the bugs for her.

      This is the most popular gift idea for 3rd and 4th graders, they love catching bugs with them and having them in the capsule. Very handy.

    I wonder if you can take the back off and use it as a vacuum attachment?

      I've not tried that, but maybe that would work?

    Good video & product review.
    One thing...
    Freezing them is temporary. They will reanimate.
    Well, maybe not after a few days.

    • @FrederickDunn
      @FrederickDunn  6 лет назад +2

      Their freezing and revival limit seems to be under 10 minutes. Anything past that and I've had no luck bringing them back...

    Interesting, do you think it would be suitable to catch queens? Or is it too rough?

      too rough

      Sorry to be so late, I would not use something like this to collect queen bees.

    Thanks for reviewing it any way though.

      Use what works Brandon, my most effective "bug catcher" is a modified pet hair vac :) BUT, it often kills the bugs on the intake, this is more for kids in my opinion :)

    • @danielweston9188
      @danielweston9188 8 лет назад

      Try using sq's of old pantry hose to catch the bugs.

    • @FrederickDunn
      @FrederickDunn  8 лет назад +3

      Daniel Weston I don't know what "pantry" hose is....

  • @wbedard

    I wonder how difficult it would be to adapt a conical endpiece, which would concentrate the suction, to make it easier to target smaller aerodynamic bugs with greater reliability. BTW, nice use of slow-mo clips in the video...;>)

      Hi William, thanks! I think there are lots of improvements that could be made with this thing... larger stronger bellows for one :)

  • @FusionDeveloper
    @FusionDeveloper 6 лет назад +6

    I am guessing it doesn't include a cap, so I would find a PVC cap or something that you can put over the trap door after you catch them, just to be 100% sure they can't escape, especially if they are dangerous bugs. Also, the first time I heard of this Bugzooka, was your video titled "Caught 117 Yellow Jacket Wasps in 30 minutes! What I use to trap wasps".

    • @FrederickDunn
      @FrederickDunn  6 лет назад +1

      HI Jay, I haven't had many situations where I would have needed a cap for the trap-door end.. but if you absolutely needed to be safe, I'd just put cellophane over it with a rubberband or something like that? They can still breath through the screen side. Thanks for watching and commenting! :) I'm glad to have been your introduction to the Bugzooka! I'm still frustrated with them over the cost of the replacement end /capture capsules...

    It isn’t often that the wasp is chosen as an experiment lol. But if you have bees then. I understand. Clearly the benefit is a catch and release device. To make a decision, is a case by case basis hahaha.

      +Frederick Dunn hi brother thank you for all great videos . brother I have few questions if you allowed me . I need expert advice . I sow your video about flow hive . I understand your opinion . but is there any other systems to collect honey like flow hive method . system available in the market or system I can made it at home . and in your personal opinion . is the flow hive method worth it money. I try to find anything about warranty for flow hive but there is nothing I sow . iam planning to start this working on honey . but first thing I should dicide what kind of hive should I buy . thank bro . waiting your reply

    • @FrederickDunn
      @FrederickDunn  8 лет назад +1

      عبد الرحمن بو علي I think you will be much better off using traditional frame honey bee methods. The flowhive is OK but requires further testing and is very expensive for what it does. Also, when you drain the flowhive honey, a lot of it seeps down inside the hive and you have a big clean up for the bees to do. It is easy for people, but hard on bees I'm afraid. I wish you well.

      +Frederick Dunn thanks so much brother for replying . I respect your time . I don't like to ask you more questions . but this will be the last one . if you have free time I will be great full. brother . what is the best traditional frame you think . if there is a link or video for it . or home made hive video. this will help me alot

      There are three widely used bee hives. Langstroth, Warre and top bar. Each person has their own opinion on which one works best. If you were to have 1-3 hives warre would be the best option. If you are unable to carry large loads the Top Bar hive would be perfect for you. If you are planning to keep bees on a Large scale then Langstroth is without a doubt the best option.

      It catches any small bug, so yes, it will suck up ants, but you have to be right next to them to get it.

    wow thats a lot of hornets /wasps- it might be good for funnel web spiders lol lol lol Though i dont think a huntsman spider would fit in it they are pretty large

    • @FrederickDunn
      @FrederickDunn  8 лет назад +1

      And for the record, wolf spiders just stop themselves at the end and jump off after the intake blast like nothing happened. Daddy Long Legs go right in though and it doesn't damage their legs :) Barn spiders with their fat abdomen also go right in. BUT, it's too small for zipper (garden spiders) spiders with the black and yellow stripes. It's definitely quite limited.

    • @Misssssysparkles
      @Misssssysparkles 8 лет назад

      Huntsman spiders lol lol lol
      ? we get a lot of the wolf spiders they scare me i can never tell if they re funnel webs BUT they always turn out to be wolfies - we can catch the and take them to the local hospital they make anti venin from then
