wow just wanted to mention i saw them live at fairfield in the early 70,s and having watched again now has the hairs on my neck standing up again..A truly great rock band never forgotten
I was listening to Family out in the car one summer. Loud as hell lol. This guy comes to the car and I though oh crap it’s too loud and he’s going to complain. He leans his head in and says in a Britt accent, “Ladybug I was at a Family concert back in the day and we were all enjoying ourselves until Chappo got pissed off at a guy in the front for throwing shit at him! So Chappo is through and launches a Tambourine through the audience. It hits me up side the head and lands at my feet! I have this scar right here and that Tambourine!” Wow Sir you sure impressed me that day. After that I read a lot of tales of Chappo and launching items lol!
No matter how many times I watch this I love it! Brings back so many memories of borrowing my brother's albums when he was at work and carefully replacing them before he came home. Got my own collection when I started work. They're still my favourite band...EVER!!!
Saw Family 4 times in Cardiff in their heyday and Roger again a few years ago and still love 'em. He must've wrecked 100's of tambourines and threw 'em into the crowd but never managed to grab one, but I DID shake hands with him in Cardiff Coal Exchange a few years ago :-))
Brings back some memory's , saw them in rotterdam and the next day in Amstredam. stil have a tambourine (roger wrecked them by the dozen) Great to see this....
love this , one of my all time faves , and anyway lp, family one of the finest bands , saw them live many times , rember them doing this live 71, think them with poli palmer the best , watch out or the tambourine
Great to see this again..oh how I wish it was 1970 and I I hair again ! Great music from a superb band.I live in Thailand now and the only thing I miss about the yUKie is good live music..but the Thais are trying and some decent bands are emerging.Cheers !
Great video, great song, great singer and great band. On their strongest songs family were great, and this video shows them to be amazing live. Such dark intensity - really powerful.
I was there at Fairfield too. It was the live recording for the Anyway album, during which I heard this very song for the very first time. What a night! What a band!
Unbelievable. I never thought I'd see Chappo at his best again. Saw Family at Sheffield City Hall in early 70's a few times. Best live band ever. Saw Chappo at Boardwalk in Sheffield a couple of years ago and the voice was just as good but he insisted on doing new stuff. No "GoodNews Bad News" no " Strange Band" What a shame. Still love him though
Great footage, truely inventive and progressive sound, really pulses and jams your senses, rock on FAMILY ! Has anyone seen the old Top Of The Pops performances of Family ? I had seen one a while ago of Weavers Answer, have been looking for this vid for a while. Anyone seen or heard of it by chance ?
Saw them at a Lyceum all-nighter around 1971 -unbelievable! What a band, a strange band indeed but nonetheless superbly brilliant. Thanks for these clips. Cheers to Chappo, Johns W,Polli Palmer and Rob. We won't forget you.
Back in the day bought "Anyway" on a whim , knowing little of the band. The first track was a live version of GBBB and I don't think I was ever so hit in the face by any track before or since. Still the best live track I've ever heard. TBH I don't much like anything else they did....but this song is rock perfection. RC is astonishing. Thanks for the up chappo.
Oh my! ..Thought I would never see any footage of them ever again...thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you..and a million times, thank you! (I'm gonna search the rest of your postings now)
This performance, although the track is incomplete, sums up the magic I first witnessed at the IOW August 1970. "Anyway" came out not long after and I bought it, the first of many. Chapman here is at his most frenetic, almost insane, mental...but I love it!
What a great live clip! I saw Family on the Anyway tour back in 1970 at Sheffield City Hall and I still maintain that it was one of the best gigs I ever attended. We didn't see enough of Family on TV although I dimly remember watching a 25 minute in concert programme on late night TV; I think it was a recording of either a Scandinavian or a German rock show, any one got a copy?
Colin I think what you are alluding to was shown late On Fri 26 October 1984 on C4(?) I believe. It was done in France inside what appeared to be museum of war artefacts. Songs played were "Dim" and "Part of the Load" (amongst others). I had this on VHs tape until my ex-wife recorded over it. Don't know if the prog is on RUclips(he wrote wistfully!)
This is my music - the thing I heard and understood for the first time as a 12 year old Danich kid - I could borrow it - and i did the whole time :O) it had a profound effekt on me and still has... Family is it.
definitely won`t miss it, thanks, and funny you should mention the concert! why? 1) only yesterday, a friend told me about the gig and 2) z7 is actually very nearby. in all these years, I never saw the man! I`ll be there.
He was nicknamed “the sheep” because of his way of singing. People agree that he was a great singer, but few recognize him as a great lyricist. It's time you start listening.
hey chappo! what with the tambourine? still in one piece at the end of the song! no, seriously, one of the most original, idiosyncratic bands to ever grace this earth. one-of-a-kind and never to be equalled!
You must have seen the expanded DVD of Message To Love which contains a full version of The Weaver's Answer. I bought it only on the strength of that and it doesn't disappoint.
I remeber 1969......."Radio Luxemburg" Dave Christian Peter Powell Tony Prince Bob Steward Rob Jones Benny Brown Mike Read Emperor Rosko Mark Wesley Paul Burnett David „Kid” Jensen ... one man from ex East Europe(CS-CZ)!
Thanks, Gigajogi. I listened this song when I where 17 years (now I´m 49). Is John Wetton at the bass? Incredible musician. Sorry. My english is poor. I´m uruguayan, and my langage is spanish.
This is only half theshow..I've seen Family blow the Stones Who etc off the stage Votes in Newcastle like 1 Family.2 Animals.3 Stones Absolutely dynamic use of stop/ go rhythms.Charlie a very underrated guitarist[played on ogwt with Us legends] and Rick Grech nicked for supergroup Blind Faith Reason they didnt make it in the States was that Chappo threw the mike stad which hit Bill Graham who controlledall the majorhalls He couldnt cope
Quelle voix ! Purée... Dommage que la qualité d'enregistrement n'y soit pas, ou plus... On dirait qu'il va s'exploser les cordes vocales à chaque parole... Et ça tient !... Epoustouflant !...
saw them in 1969 in pop festival of plumpton, live they were a great band,ORIGINAL,that s i remenber of them ,they were diferent, rock, folk, oriental, themself with the strange voice of the singer; and because they were too different they did nt have the success;WHY
great playing, especially whitney and weider. this lineup may have been stronger musically than the grech/king lineup which was amazing, don't get me wrong, but this lineup may have had more muscle and they had grown as musicians from all that live playing, too---
This band blew Hendrixff the stage at Hyde Park Too powerful for the Americans Consistently top of polls eg Nnewcaste Top Family Second Animalst Third Stones c 71 devastating
So glad I saw Family live -- they were fucking brilliant
wow just wanted to mention i saw them live at fairfield in the early 70,s and having watched again now has the hairs on my neck standing up again..A truly great rock band never forgotten
at last - family videos - thank you - one of the most original and sadly forgotten bands
One of the best Bands of the seventies. Regret never seeing them.
one of the great rock band and one of the most great singers ever heard
This band was so bloody brilliant. I lost count of the number of times I saw them. I was lucky enough to meet Chappo in 2005 :-)
vu sur scène en 1973 environ, à Saint Marcel (Saône et Loire), un immense souvenir ! Bravo Chappo !
Incredibly good version by an amazing band! Thank you
Love the vibraphone cranked up to 11 in this, and the fantastic energy all through this performance.
Family was so rockin. We always called Chapman The Goatman cause of his bellow but it was so raw... so from the gut just wonderful stuff.
Legendary band... legendary singer!
Wonderful! Thank you for the legacy.
my brother (lucky bastard) saw Family live as support for TASTE in London in early seventies.
I was listening to Family out in the car one summer. Loud as hell lol. This guy comes to the car and I though oh crap it’s too loud and he’s going to complain. The more I see and hear him several times and more I like ... great band, great R.Chapman!
I saw Family, with this line up on the 'Anyway' tour. They were absolutely fantastic. One of the best gigs, if not the best gig I ever attended.
No matter how many times I watch this I love it! Brings back so many memories of borrowing my brother's albums when he was at work and carefully replacing them before he came home. Got my own collection when I started work. They're still my favourite band...EVER!!!
they live for their music, every note - great sound, great attitude, great voice ......
Damn, would have loved to see these guys live.
Thanks for sharing this. I still have a scar on my leg when Roger kicked the mic stand of the stage and it landed on my leg. Totally on his own.
Brings back some memory's , saw them in rotterdam and the next day in Amstredam. stil have a tambourine (roger wrecked them by the dozen) Great to see this....
Also saw this band 2 times at portsmouth guildhall 70/71 and incredible to see roger again with that brilliant voice
love this , one of my all time faves , and anyway lp, family one of the finest bands , saw them live many times , rember them doing this live 71, think them with poli palmer the best , watch out or the tambourine
Saw the band '69 in Turku, Finland.
The best band ever.
One of my favorite song from "young times"
This was music without computer; only Instruments and voices .
Very good.
Great to see this again..oh how I wish it was 1970 and I I hair again ! Great music from a superb band.I live in Thailand now and the only thing I miss about the yUKie is good live music..but the Thais are trying and some decent bands are emerging.Cheers !

Fantastic performance! I love it!!!
I Feel the same way - I am from 59 and this band was my first musical facination-
I so dig their albums and I am from Denmark.
My favorite rock art band..❤❤❤
My favourite Family song - at the time thought it was incredibly violent -, love the riff
brilliant /I have this on a dvd/used to see them a lot early 70s /one of the finest ever
Unbelievable. I never thought I'd see Chappo at his best again. Saw Family at Sheffield City Hall in early 70's a few times. Best live band ever. Lots more fab tambourine action in 'Streetwalkers' live at Rockpalas... just brilliant!! X
The first of all - voice. And than dynamic.
Jedna z niewielu naprawdę oryginalnych kapel w historii rocka. Chapman - sam dla siebie, nikogo nie musiał udawać! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Great footage, truely inventive and progressive sound, really pulses and jams your senses, rock on FAMILY ! Has anyone seen the old Top Of The Pops performances of Family ? Well and truly amazing. Been brought up on these masterpieces. Since I was 6 years old for over 20 years.
This performance, although the track is incomplete, sums up the magic I first witnessed at the IOW August 1970. "Anyway" came out not long after and I bought it, the first of many. Chapman here is at his most frenetic, almost insane, mental...but I love it!
He was so stoned,,dont know how he made it into the 21 st century but glad that he has,

He was nicknamed “the sheep” because of his way of singing. People agree that he was a great singer, but few recognize him as a great lyricist. It's time you start listening.
Although Charlie Whitney wrote most of the lyrics, this song included
Most of the songs were co-written but the one with the original idea (in the broadest way ) got the credits . ( + more ££)
@@Chappomusic interesting! Thank you
hey chappo! what with the tambourine? still in one piece at the end of the song! no, seriously, one of the most original, idiosyncratic bands to ever grace this earth. one-of-a-kind and never to be equalled!
Eine Sternstunde der rockmusick
Their best song.
anyone got any footage of the Stones Hyde park free concert when Family blew them off the stage??
Toujours aussi fascinant!
Chappo!! Voice of an Electric Goat, moves of an Electrocuted Chicken. Without a doubt, 'In His Own Time'....

Speed rock, idiot dancing, wonderful!
Grandiose ! En 70, ils faisaient l'égal du Floyd et du Soft !
saw them in 1969 in pop festival of plumpton,

Trembling voice,Demis Roussos' style, but more rockish.
great playing, especially whitney and weider.
this lineup may have been stronger musically than the grech/king lineup which was amazing, don't get me wrong, but this lineup may have had more muscle and they had grown as musicians from all that live playing, too---

MA PREFEREE .............
Such heart and rage, probably the most genuine rock band of the whole era. That was only half the song, by the way.
