Lawrence Taylor is the best football player in history. I've never seen anything like it. He played the position that teams value the least and he still took games over like no one else.
Even at age 7 and I started watching football, I knew LT was the greatest. My Dad liked other teams but as soon as I saw LT, I knew there was nobody like him.
Actually LT is right he is the leader in sacks they didn't count his rookie year sacks because it was 1981 and they didn't start doing it until 1982, but he has 142 sacks VS Strahan's 141.5 Look up the stats.
You are 100% correct. LT had 9.5 sacks in ‘81 which were not counted as sacks were not an official stat until ‘82. He is the all-time Giants leader technically. Great career from Strahan as well.
LT bought me a beer when the Giants were in town for a joint practice with the Browns in 1992. He was really polite and appreciated that everyone was not asking for autographs and such. It was crazy that like 20 NFL players were mingling with the peeps and nobody really cared. Everybody just drank at the bar like any other Saturday night. It would be way different now, with annoying cellphones and everyone trying to get selfies. The players prolly wouldn't even entertain doing that now.
Watched Michael’s whole career. I remember this young pup still wet behind the ears getting his first sack his rookie year. Who would have thought there would be 140.5 more sacks to go. Phenomenal player.
LT was unstoppable during his playing days. They had to change the game because of him. I had the opportunity to meet him during a football camp when I was a kid and after doing some drills, I walked off the field with him and talked to him. It was the coolest thing ever. He was nice to me. I was already a Giants fan, but I became a mega Giants fan because of that moment. I'm still a huge Giants fan to this day and that unforgettable moment happened 30+ years ago.
Stra was one of the best ends in the NFL. When he played the end he'd never let anyone get that corner on a run or pass. He played it to perfection. You see these other players try to make highlight reels running in leaving the corner open for whatever. Michael played the position spot on.
When people talk about the greatest defenses they always talk about the Steel Curtain, 85 Bears, 2000 Ravens but they never mention the 80's Giants. They the only team I watched that could stifle my Montana and Rice Niners. THE ONLY TEAM! I will never forget that 7-6 Monday Night Game and I will never forget that NFC Championship either!

LT is a good man. That’s why ppl accept the bad situations that he got into at times. He should’ve never been prosecuted for that thing with the young lady because she truly hustled him. Again, LT is a good man.
In my opinion LT is the first defensive rock star type player. If there is no LT, then there is no Prime Time and defensive players are still kind of in the background of the media and all. I feel like LT was the first real star on defense. There were dozens of great players before him. But making the defense something you have to watch. That feeling you have that was normally reserved for an offensive player. Yeah, LT is that guy. Game changer, league changer.
LT is the reason i like the Giants. When my brother and I were kids and would stay with my dad on the weekend, we would watch the games before he took us back to our Moms. All i remember was this guy in blue that was faster than everyone else and cause so many problems for other teams. After i found out he was LT, I couldnt like anyone else as a favorite player growing up as a kid. I didnt know about the off field issues when i was that young. I just watched him play and was in awe
Much respect for LT. In ‘96 I moved my family to Pleasanton, CA where my son played on Joe & Mike Madden’s Freshman Team. On a Sunday afternoon we watched LT and later I took Robert and Mike DiMaggio Joe’s great nephew), and their friends to a park where we played. LT was Robert’s favorite and studied LT’s moves. They went undefeated that year and my son had more sacks than the team combined. Mrs. Madden sponsored a lunch-party for them. Sadly, six years later my son was killed but LT was always his favorite NFL player!
Lawrence Taylor has one mind set.. Don't let anyone show you up. And he made sure the other teams understood it. As he was Relentless. Ruthless and Tough...
You know your very well respected and great when you have a coach like Bill Parcells that leaves you alone because of how great you are on the football field.. You will never see another Lawrence Taylor ever again he was the GOAT best linebacker ever
Taylor was the best defensive player in NFL history. No questions. He struck terror into 300lb offensive linemen, and Offensive coordinators. But Strahan was a straight-up animal that could change a game on his own as well. Very few Offensive Tackles could handle him without holding, and he shut the run game down with the same ferocity that LT did. If LT's rookie year sacks were counted, he'd have 142. But without cutting hairs, how impressive is a true "hand in the dirt " defensive end matching LT's sacks? Micheal Strahan is on the Mount Rushmore of NY Giants, ALL time.
I forget the year when the Giants played the Saints and Mr. Taylor dislocated his shoulder and set an example for ALL of us by demonstrating the power of WILL, the Determination of “True Grit, The Toughness of a body, the Mental capacity of Durability, the Gladiator Courage DO or DIE, and down to Earth PURE Guts that only we Human's possess.
