UPDATE: I just uploaded the studio tour! Watch it here: ruclips.net/video/_Hsxync_Igc/видео.html Which device do you use the most for controlling your smart home?
I am likely in a minority but most things I trigger manually. I turn on a smart plug, home assistant sees that and starts a shutoff timer. I do this for washer, dryer, coffee pot, bathroom Nite lites, A/C... other devices like heaters, water distillers, run on schedules. Android phone for most manual stuff like TVs, media players, etc...
If you want to have a laugh, go to Paul’s channel and look at his old videos where he’s trying to be serious, you can see it’s causing him physical pain lol.
I use my Galaxy Watch with Home Assistant all the time. I find that setting up my most used functions as a watch tile is much quicker than waiting for the app to load up.
Your tip with the fingerprint is awesome! I checked that and it works perfectly for me. Thank you. I can give you my tip. Level up the fridge. If you do that correctly it should always close itself so you don't have to check if left open anymore 😉.
One thing I would definitely recommend is on android, having a script that sends a test notification to you that you can click on to open homeassistant. This allows multiple instances of the app to be open at once 6:45
100% I use my phone most. Voice second. I'm looking to add a watch in the near future and am working on turning an old fire tablet in controls. I really need to rebuild all of my home assistant dashboards to make them more functional.
Just stumbled on your videos when looking for a review of the new Echo dot. In addition to the great reviews I love your humor in your videos! As a father of 4 I can definitely relate to the iPad that is filthy. Thanks for the app recommendation Home Assistant! I am going to try this to manage the plethora of smart home devices in my home in 1 place instead of multiple apps
Dude, why don't you get a right angle cable for that tablet in your home theater? It would make it harder to break and look a little better at the same time.
I had to do a double take when I saw your watches wrist band, it's the same one I have on my Pebble watch 🤣 Great vid, thanks for doing it, always nice to see what other stuff people also have 'behind the scenes'
Hey Reed, been a follower for a year, great video always. just wondering how are you securing your network with all of your smart things in it. +1 for the studio tour.
Great video! I've been really close to buying a tablet several times and haven't been able to pull the trigger. I already have a large phone, the S21 Ultra, so it's been hard to justify a tablet for me. You covering how much you use yours may have just put me over the edge.
Would love to see how you have devices set up in certain hubs and which ones your assistants see. Do your Alexa devices only see devices via HA and if so how do you prevent other devices from showing up when you do discovery?
Your videos are fantastic. I am considering getting into Home Assistant. Do you have an up to date "getting started with Home Assistant" video? I currently have most things (mainly smart bulbs, plugs and Nest Thermostats) running off of Alexa. I will be adding a Ring doorbell and outdoor camera soon. Keep up the great work!!
4:42 Hey Reed. If you don't have a robot with a camera, but you wanna check the fridge door ... centralite has a zigbee contact sensor that has a temp sensor built in. Excellent battery life, and can but put inside the fridge. This way you know if the door is open/closed, and what the temperature is in there. If you have French door fridge like i see you do, you can still put a temp sensor in there and it will be obvious that the fridge is open. How do i know this? Because this exact thing happened to me! I won't say who, but someone left it open when we went out of town, and I was able to have a relative head over and shut it. Of course I could remotely unlock the door for the relative because my home is smart :-D Excellent video!
When my friend's kids were much younger I'd visit him and marvel at the grime on every smooth surface and the seemingly endless crumbs of bread that got into his car. Children are magical but, certainly, they are also greasy and grimy. His term for it was 'suppurating', which I thought was fittingly disgusting, if a little uncharitable.
Hi Paul, can you do a video for what you would recommend for Assisted living smart homes, for the physically disabled, or for emergency works? for example, a fire alarm linking to google home/alexa "there is smoke in the kitchen" all the lights turn on, the extractor turns on, and power is cut to ovens.
Can you please do a complete video on making your home smart with home assistant. Like the things you need, step by step to set it up and link everything. I have zero knowledge on this stuff. How to put everything on the tablet to control everything and how to link everything up. Can you please do that or link me to a channel of someone who has that in debt video from A-Z
Nice twist on the smart home. I'm a Pixel owner looking to switch to an iphone just for using homekit since Amazon has lost their way and the echo ecosystem has suffered. I've never had any interest in a smart watch and my phone is usually within reach. With 3 echo shows, 2 google hubs, 2 fire tablets and my phone a screen is always available if needed. I do cringe a little every time you mention how easy home assistant is. Clearly you are very talented in the computer field but unfortunately I think you assume many of us have a similar knowledge base. I have no problem admitting my limitations and while the echo routines are easy to comprehend and even master, I am unable to even use my own computer for anything other than email and internet. So home assistant is not even a possibility.
Please could you make a video telling us your experiences with the fingerprint door lock? There are loads on Amazon, including the one you link to here, but they all have a lot of reviews criticising the app, the reliability, the actual security and so on. How have you found yours?
I got mine months ago to keep the kids away from my camera gear. I've liked it a lot and even bought another one for the office. The mixed reviews are because people didn't set it up right. I talk about it a bit in this video: ruclips.net/video/kQblYvXKVAo/видео.html
Great video, as always... ! Could you please explain how you got the tile buttons customized with homeassistant? I have about 10 available with the HA icon, but they all say "Tile not set up" and I just can't figure it out! Help!!! Thank s a lot, for all the great videos!
I am currently juggling devices on the Alexa app, Smart Life, SylvaniaSmart, Ring, Lepro LampUX, Cloud Intelligence, Yi Home, UltraPro, Monster Smart, Hello Fairy, and DuoCo StripX. God I wish I had known how involved things would get and and been more careful while peace-mealing my setup together. If it wasn't for the Alexa App reigning almost everyone in one one platform I would go nuts. Also, why the hell hasn't Amazon written an Iphone widget for the Alexa App yet?
Sorry, but my iPhone widgets to slide over and access works pretty well... ;) No Android for me, LOL... Haha, fridge left open and checked on my a robot vac, that is classic! I think you need the flying Ring camera! Oh another ending classic!!! Yes, studio tour!
Hello, thanks for your videos. I just want to start automating my home. Get some light, bulbs socket, etc. Now I am thinking of a Hub go buy, I am a Samsung lover, so my phone and TV are all Samsung, I am already using my TV with the smart things app. But the smart things hub is quite pricey for me right now, can I get an echo dot and still work with my Samsung devices and smart things app? Or do I need an iPhone? Thank you
Do you have a video on how to start using Home Assistant ? Ive seen videos that require raspberry pies and i am not trying to go that route. I want to use my tablet. Not sure how to start
Great video. I did not know there was a smart watch home assistant client. Where do you get the token to use the galaxy smart watch home assistant app? I loaded it right away after watching this video, but i can not find where the token comes from. I tried creating a long lasting token, and that wasn't it. Any direction would be appreciated.
Yes, thats also part of the benefit since the hardware is local, you aren’t reliant on an internet connection. You could run it on a NAS (Synology is quite a popular option), or maybe a nice custom PC build (LTT had a custom NAS build video a while back), but if you can find it (for a reasonable price), a Raspberry Pi is best, due to it’s low power consumption since it uses an ARM chip.
Thanks! I get most of my shirts from Threadless and here is a link to it www.threadless.com/shop/@JCLovely/design/fox/mens/t-shirt/regular?color=light_blue&size=x-large
Just noticed the garage door automation popup on phone. Regarding that, anyone got reliable actionable automation for closing a garage door? For example every night at 9PM, if garage is left open I get a notification stating that and a button bellow to close the garage
Can you please detail video on how to set up Home Assistatnt ? I want to try automation like you but i cannot get it to work. When i download the Home Assistant and it asking for the home assistant url . Please help if you can
You need an always on computer to run a Home Assistant server on, like a Raspberry Pi. You can’t just download the app. I think Paul Hibbert has a ‘Home Assistant for Dummies’ video.
Hey Reed, my Nest (3rd gen) thermostat keeps cooling when the AC is on but sometimes it keeps turning off and then back on because it hasn't cooled, but it turns off almost immediately and then back on almost immediately. And I mean without the regular delay of like 1 minute or 2. It turns on and off then back on within 10 seconds. Do you have any suggestions? And has anyone else has this problem?
help. i just got home assistant setup and have 2 light strips (1 RGBIC). i need to add stuff to my network, but i dont know where to start. somebody give suggestions.
Your roborock is on HA and using Roborock app? How!? As I understood (and I did that way), its need to be added on MiHome (which is BAD app) and only then it can be added in HA.

I am so glad Bluey exists, way better than the other junk on TV lol
Agreed! We love Bluey in this house.
I use my Galaxy Watch with Home Assistant all the time. I find that setting up my most used functions as a watch tile is much quicker than waiting for the app to load up.
+1 for a studio tour….as long as there’s a Paul Hibbert appearance!
love the shout out to Paul! HOME ASSISTANT!!

Home Assistant Thrust 🤣 At least it's not the Zigbee thrust.

Would like to see more on how you set-up and use the Tiles. Mine seem slow and clunky!
Thanks Reed.

hi! lol Paul voice! hahah. One question, where do you have HA installed? PC or Raspberry?
I'm a software engineer new to home assistant, how do you control your devices that integrate with Google and Alexa but not home assistant?
What exact watch do you have I was following the link but I was curious on size etc.
It's the Galaxy Watch4 (not Classic) 44 mm in black
